I like the idea of this bike but I would still prefer carbon fiber. I just picked up a new 2023 Intense Sniper T Pro on sale from Intense for $4,000 out the door. Similar geometry but far superior component set due to the sale pricing. I'll keep an eye on this one in the future.
I have the 110/120 travel 2023 Epic Evo and love it. This new Chisel FS is nearly identical except aluminum. I think Specialized hit a homerun with this bike. Personally, I would choose the the Comp build which comes with the RS Sid 35 and SLX drivetrain.
Totally agree on the home run and the Comp spec being the winner
Agreed - the slx spec and 4-pot brakes are a WIN at the price.
Proper bikes, both!
I wonder about light weight and durability? I go 220 pounds and can be hard on stuff. Nice bike though
Can alloy get fisures when bended? since I see there is no bearings in the rear triangle like other bikes have, I'm speaking from ignorance.
If you bend it too far then yeah, disaster. Keep it within the elastic deformation (posh engineering words for 'springy' range though and it's fine
Which shock absorber would I change the xfusion for?
I’d go for SIDLuxe
Legend for the shimano sram news. Just ordered the comp shimano. Man dont run sram
I will wait for the full review, good video, thank you
It’s up now Alex 👍🏻 full words and pics on Bikeperfect.com as well linktr.ee/guykestv
My Lord, there is virtually no better bike reviewer on the planet than Guy.
Crikey, cheers Ricky, glad you enjoy what I do.
You might be right. He’s top class
Amen!
It's a bit funny, selling aluminium bike for 3k, when just a few weeks ago you could buy new carbon Specialized Enduro for ~3k lol
Love the idea of this bike. The release has me excited. Your review makes me want it that much more!
Could you please tell me how that pivot shelf is mounted. Is it tough. Rivot or screws or glued to frame. Thanks. Love your work man
I literally bought a Chisel 6 months ago and now this model is released. I’m sad to annonce that now my bike is worthless and will promptly be thrown into the sea. I can’t even bear to look at it anymore. 😢
I’ll take your trash for free
We do need more coral reefs though!
Just make sure to take note and share the location. 😂
@@guidokaleka It’s a size XL, you can always lower the saddle it has a dropper.
Not quite sure what to make of this, a 14.5kg bike for £2500ish, just a few years ago I got a new Calibre Bossnut v2 for under a grand weight at 14.9kg and more or less same kit, forks gears brakes etc? Have bikes increased that much . What would be a good video is to compare the chisle against a similar specification on a polygon.
great video as usual.
@@ragnornorse1507 I’ve got some other previously cheap bikes coming up from Voodoo and Calibre very shortly but the bad news is yes, it seems like budget bike prices have basically doubled for same spec 😬
low cost???? you guys just crazy paid under the table or what???? this is not low cost!!!!
Radon Skeen Trail and Radon Slide Trail are low cost, but not this under equiped and overpriced alloy bike! Check Decathlon Rockrider as well they have good prices!!! but not Specialized!
Oh FFS stop it with the conspiracy theories, it’s boring and for the record utter bollocks. My industry sponsors are all listed on the video and they don’t include Specialized. It’s low cost for a bike from a proper bike shop with a really good record for customer service. But yeah I hear you about the Rockrider. Previous FS bikes I’ve tested from them haven’t been great but I’ve got the new carbon XC FS bike on the way so very keen to try that. OK?
For complete build, I’d go for the SLX build. But from frameset, I’d build it with GX AXS
Watch this space 👍🏻
Nice touch of them to put a name sticker on for you
LOL, I had some left from the Epic press launch so I stuck one on because I’m basically still 7 years old
@@GuyKesTV6yo here. Is 7 better? Or more silly 😅?
Hi, is there any mean to bump rear travel from 110mm to 120mm (shock stroke, rocker link, etc …) to make more trail oriented ?
Interested to know what the tire clearance is like? The mud flap protecting the gap at the lower pivots is a nice touch, but I wonder how it would cope with 2.4 tires and UK mud.
Just bought a HT Chisel Comp 4 wks ago! Not sure if I gonna yell or cry 😄😭! This bike seems to hit the ultimate sweet spot in the Specialized range RN!
The HT is still a sweet bike
The Ht is still a very fun bike
@@Paganiproductions84 I DO enjoy it, let that be clear 😀
Great bike and a great review.
We need more quality bikes in this price class, especially since money is tight for most.
Looks good, but the Orbea Oiz looks better 😊.
Cool! I love my HT chisel I might buy this
It's a beautiful bike. I want it ❤
No Horst link on that bike?
😅 I don't see the chain stay pivots...
Greetings from Croatia from Kris 😎
Hi Kris, no rear pivot, just flex stays
Thank you very much, could you tell me a list of components I could improve the Chisel bicycle,
I'd start with lighter wheels first, then change the chainset and bottom bracket for a lighter version. Then rear cassette. Those three changes would save you a lot of weight where it matters
I like the mud shelf
Recently picked up an epic pro LTD at 50% discount, swapped the brain shock for a Bike Yoke + RS SID Ultimate 3P, and swapped the brain fork damper for a RS Raceday charger 2 3P... However, if this bike was released I'd have been seriously tempted to go with this instead, this looks like such a good bike for the vast majority of XC riders who aren't interested in going racing.... Epic EVO I hear you say but it was completely sold out and I'm happy with 110mm front and 95mm rear, works perfectly for my local XC trails.... Anyway, the Chisel FS will be popular, it hits the right price point and the spec looks to be good quality, a perfect base frame from which to upgrade.
That sounds like you’ve got a sick bike at a great price anyway
@@GuyKesTV Yeah, it's such a good XC bike - a huge improvement from my 2012 Kinesis FF29 which was getting a little old and tired!
Specialized website says "High" position puts the head angle at 70° from 66.5° in "Low" position. That must be a mistake. All other geo changes are much more subtle between flip chip positions.
Haha yeah they definitely got that wrong. It’s 67 in the high position. Actually it’s a little bit less when I measured but close enough
@GuyKesTV That's what I figured thanks for confirming.
How much weight can you lose by making all the changes?
I had a chisel HT which is 1 kilo lighter frame. I got that down to 9.3kilo without going too crazy to 10.5 with this bike should be easy
can't find anything on this online first i've heard of it. Prototype?
It only launched 15 minutes ago. I got sent one for test as soon as they landed. First ride video just uploading now
whats the max chainring for the Chisel FS?
It’s not in the PR, I’ll ask the design team
Its to heavy for the money
I dont get these 30+ lb. trail bikes. This bike should be 28 tops.
Where did you get your name decal from?
They had some spare from marking bikes up at a press launch you’ll be hearing all about next week so I stuck one on the Chisel too
Thats one heck of a shoe collection Guy.😎
Yeah, it’s not a great place to stand if the workshop ever gets warm 🤢
Is the hardtail discontinued?
No don’t worry, still very much alive
It looks like the model up offers even better value for money in terms of spec. Would you agree?
Definitely worth the extra but at this price £500 / $800 is a lot of cash
Very good point. We should praise specialized for offering a very upgradable budget bike.
Agreed - definitely worth it
Lot of bike for the money
A lot of money to get this bike specced decently though.
Just rebrand of old camber
Thank you for you expert opinion and insight 👍
I own a 2016 camber and a 2023 epic evo (which this bike is very similar to).
I can assure you that this bike rides NOTHING like the evo, if my experience is anything to go by.
New geometry has a totally different feel, even tho the camber could be viewed as the first down country bike.
Where can i get this unit for 2000????????
Your local Specialized dealer
Lol mine is 2600 where are you finding 2000
@@gregjr63 exactly
@@gregjr63he’s talking GBP not USD. He’s in the UK.
*Very nice COMPLETELY FORMED marketing words that everebody repeat in his advetisment specialized sold videos))) Even old 2014-2016 Kona Process 134 and 153 has that COMPLETELY FORMED seat tube LOL... the same Scott Spark 2016-2019))) Welcome to the future with Specialized bikes guys - 2024 is here))) Dont forget friends - that your heads are also entire monococs)))*
This isn’t a paid video, but yes you’re right about other brands using a formed seat tubes with pivot mounts in before. Scott don’t include the BB shell tho.
Its cool that Specialized has figured out how to do the flex pivot in aluminum, but honestly I just can't see why someone would buy this bike instead of something like a new Lux Trail CF6 for a few hundred dollars more. We have one of the cheapest Stumpjumpers that can be bought and it came with all the equivalent low spec components in your video. There is just no long term savings with the cheapest versions of the Specialized bikes, the only savings is right up front, and the savings is small.
Its still fairly heavy too.
I recently got a NOS Giant Trance 2. 12 speed Deore groupset Z2 fork, Fox dps, Maxxis tyres for £1099. Probably a bit more downcountry/trail build than this bike (130/120 travel) but plenty of money saved for upgrades. UDH hanger too.
That’s a real steal for sure. You can get a previous gen Epic Evo with a superlight carbon frame for half price ATMO too. Only limited sizes and colours left tho
@@GuyKesTV yeah I was tempted Kes but I ride all year round and night riding in winter I just want to be able to throw a dirty bike on the bike rack so carbon was out for me.. Had I known they were bringing out an alloy version I may have held out for the Chisel FS but I'm pleased with my Trance.
Do you think this bike would work well for riding trail? Would it handle small, (under 4ft), drops, medium sized tabletops, average blue trail type features? I’m currently riding a 150mm bike and feel it’s too much bike for most places I ride around here in Minnesota.
