I had a Honda CB 750 in 1983. I paid $400 for it used, and had it less than 4 months before a pizza delivery drive ran me over trying to make his 30 minute delivery time. pretty much destroyed my left leg, and almost ended my military career. I still have the car I bought with my settlement money. Never rode a bike on the street again, but that bike was a lot of fun until I was run over.
It’s gravity cast, not sandcast. Honda never made any sandcast production bikes. As I said, the first 1700 was gravity cast and from then due to demand, they started doing “forced induction casting” using high pressure molding.
Those early CB750 Fours wouldn't do 124 mph...more like 110mph. I had two CB750 Fours..a 1976 model and a 1973 model...it wasnt til the 1977 CB750 Four Supersport model when Honda hopped up the engine a bit would it go 125 mph..but by 1977 the CB 750 single cam engine was obsolete compared to the new Suzuki GS750 with its twin cam engine
Quick research reveals the bike was tested with 190 km/h (118 mph) in 1969 by a german magazine. Don't know if the rider layed down, wich would be not uncommon at the time. Conclusion: 110 any day, 118 on sunday, 125 for Die-Hard Fans :)
@slippingsnake well I owned a 1976 750 Four...and being only 17 years old at the time I can assure you that I topped it out many times...110 at the most..heck they only made mid 40's hp...now the 1977 CB 750 Super Sport that Honda hopped up engine was much faster..I remember seeing 125mph with that bike. I also had a 1973 CB750 Four with a 836cc engine kit...that made the bike as fast as a Kawasaki Z1 of the day.
124mph? When I was a new rider in 1972, a friend’s Dad was the Senior motorcycle cop in Auckland NZ (where I grew up) He was also one of the few who got to test ride motocycles that the Dept was considering for highway patrol bikes. I had asked him about the actual performance of these bikes in particular, as they had been picked as the Highway Patrol bikes, yet didn’t seem capable of keeping up with most bikes on the road. His answer was; “The best I could get out of the Honda was 105mph, lying flat on the tank, with my legs straight out behind me. After they have had all the usual Police gear like windscreen, panniers, radio, etc, put on them, they’re pushing hard to get past 95.” Honda had speedos that were very fast, but not as fast as the ones on Yamaha two strokes. Oh, and Kawasaki came out with a 900 engine first, not a 750.
It's not the bike model. It's the sandcast engine with a matching frame number. The specs for 69 were still big numbers my later 70's cb550 was faster but these were something and most if these engines cracked and were replaced with the more common production engine. So it's this bike with the proper original engine that makes it rare.
The assessment of the value of that bike, Remind me of an old song, Dreaming I'm always dreaming 🎶 I would be willing to wager, That bike. In pristine condition, original paint. not restored, With five hundred original miles, at best would sale at Barrett jackson for 25- 30 % Of his estimation. Good luck 👍
Never was a big fan of Hondas until I took a shine to an all-black CB500-4 being ridden by a local Hells Angel as a second bike. He agreed to sell it to me and I soon fell in love with it. It just felt great to ride. No more crazy two-strokes for me, after that. I wish I had also tried the CB750.
I HAD A CB500 bought it new,it was orange metalflake,EVERYBODY wanted it, we used to ride together for up to 400 mile runs, all of the vibrator bike friends old ladies would walk up and say,can i ride with you ,my ass is just gone,i can't ride back,by the time we got back all of them guys went and bought one of these cb750 models,THEY BOUGHT THEIR BIKES BECAUSE OF THEIR WOMEN,TRUTH
Yeah so it's valuable because Honda screwed up the block and you're going to rebuild it and drive it 120mph brilliant bro sell it and get a 1982 cb1100 and buy a house
They were stamped by hand after casting. I owned serial number 1001352 and can tell you it is a legit number. And when he says Honda replaced about half of the engines, it was probably due to the chain failing and poking a hole in the cases at the front sprocket.
It's the early motor that's important because they were faster. You could fix the motor and use other parts from later models. I had a later model that ran and I basically got it for nothing.
Definitely not worth $100k in any state 😂 doesn’t matter if it’s sand cast either… no cb750 is gonna be worth $100k doesn’t matter if it’s the original super bike either, 1st gen H2 750’s are waaay more rare than cb750’s. you can find cb’s all over marketplace for 3-5k depending on condition.
Hondas were massed produced and designed too be thrown away. Good luck thinking that’s a 100k bike. My 70 Norton Commando 750 Roadster is a better bike and worth more.
Kawasakis first plan was to release it as a 750. When Honda introduced the 750 Kawasaki went back to the drawing board and came up with the Z1 900 four years later, in Japan as a 750 though.

Only great and desirable to a few people into dead history perhaps like Fortnine who hyped up this bike. To the rest of us, a big meh. Over powered, too heavy, parts are unobtanium, hard to work on, and kind of fugly. There are other Honda's that became wildly successful, with better mpg, that are much more desirable, i.e. the 500's and 750. I never liked any motorcycle with a long boring slab of a bench for a seat.
