  • Isaac Porter, MD from Lowry Porter Ophthalmology explains that although cataracts cannot return, a patient's lens capsule can become cloudy after surgery (posterior capsular opacification). This can be cleared with a laser procedure called a yag capsulotomy.

    I had PCO and the YAG procedure done 2 days ago. 6 weeks after cataract surgery I noticed the haze. After doing some research I found it's a common and normal reaction some people have to the surgery.

    My eye started to cloud over again even after a second YAG to the point that my vision was really quite blurry and hazy eight months ago.. I read in a medical paper that vitamin C can inhibit and reverse the growth of the cells that try to reform the lens, and thus impair vision. I started taking vitamin C supplements (not in excess) and eating a couple of oranges a day, and my good vision returned.

      Sir..My left eye is cloudy after 1. Month of cataract surgery...My dr says lens is moving so lazer is not preferred...He gave steroid injection and drops for 1 month.

    My question regards retinal detachment. If a person is at risk for retinal detachments, either by family history or having had a detachment, is his risk for a detachment after having yag surgery greater than someone who has not had a detachment?

    I had cataract surgery on right eye 2 years ago, but fortunately learned about some vision improvements with a low inflammatory diet! By going low carb no grains, no sugar (Wheat Belly diet), I was able to improve my left eye vision significantly (totally changed contact lens Rx) and that eye no longer needs cataract surgery. Wish I had learned of diet influence sooner, as my right eye now has PCO! Because of family history of retinal detachment and my severe right eye myopia, the VAG may be a bit risky for me. Still trying to study the latest literature to see if this will be an option for my near-vision eye!

    I regret I even had the surgery the so-called capsulotomy hazing or fogging is very distressful and now I have to continue going back to the eye surgeon to remove the haze?? this whole industry is a rip-off!! I've been better with the cataracs

    Thank you. Could you please tell us what cause the clouding in the capsule so we can prevent it or at least decelerates its formation.

    I had YAG laser procedure done but my doctor didn't use a contact len, he did heavily dilate my eye & numb it. But...🤔
    Should I be concerned he didn't use a special contact lense in my eye? It's only been a few days so I'm still seeing floaters but my vision is very clear.

    The reality is we need some type of drops or some type of other technique to treat cataracts it's the cutting and insertion of artificial substance into the body which causes the problem with the bag cutting and burning and slashing seems to always be the answer when it comes to Orthodox medicine there has to be another way

      Same here pretty much, interestingly the eye with PCO had an "easy" cataract surgery, but now is getting blurry.

    I had a Yag procedure on my right eye in May 2017 (my cataract was removed in May 2014) I could see clearly again the same day - for about a month. By Aug 2017 I needed a second YAG as my vision was so cloudy. I'm 54. Has anyone had a similar experience? And does anyone know what the chances are of needing a third procedure?

    • @dimidomo7946
      @dimidomo7946 6 років тому

      Good question and comment. I had cataract removal on both eyes in 2005. I had YAG-laser capsulotomy on left eye in 2015, right eye in 2016. Left eye cloudiness has returned, so a second YAG treatment is needed; this is my self diagnosis. I'll be meeting with the ophthalmologist for their opinion next week. I'll have these YAG treatments as often as they are deemed necessary. Also, there does not appear to be any limits on repeats of the necessary treatments to remove the bothersome cloudiness.

      GregB I had it done in Budapest so paid in Hungarian forints. The first procedures cost 15,000 HUF plus 5,000 for a preliminary check-up. They didn't charge me for the second one three months later since the first one had not really worked.

    My mother had this procedure done and it ruined her vision. She had the haze and had the YAG laser but still has hazy vision. She sees terrible low light and has a host of other problems. She said "If they would've said your going to see like this I would've said NO WAY!". They didn't inform her about the risks and just said about 20% of patients develop haze. They didn't talk about how her vision could be ruined or have debilitating visual symptoms which she developed. How did this procedure get approved? how is this considered safe?

    I had my surgery 4 weeks ago but still my vision is foggy. During the procedure, my doctor injected an anesthesia near my eyes and after that he applied pressure and was pushing my eye for about 5 minute. He said the reason he did that is to numb the eye. Was that normal?

    I had cat surgery and wasnt told that the lens could / would haze over , infact after the surgery I still couldnt see they had to lazer it . So question is , why not just lazer the eye and not put a lens . apparently I still couldnt see after the lens was in - so maybe it didnt need replacing .. Are we being played ? when all we need is a 2 minute lazer job ?? then what does the lazer cause later that we're not being told ??

      It can because the cells of the lens can reactivate and eventually shrink the hole.

    I had cataract surgery a week ago and my vision is still as blurry as when i had the cataract, could it be that the capsule has hazed or should i be patient until my vision clears?? If so what is the typical time i should wait before i assume its the capsule that has hazed?? (btw i will see my doctor in 2 weeks so just wanna have a second opinion before i go)

      I had my first cataract removal six years ago and my second one two weeks ago I can see better but very hazy sometimes, when I went to my follow up matter fact today he said to give it another 3 to 4 weeks if it’s not cleared up by then the laser surgery.

    I had cataract sugery January this year, both the 9th on my left eye and the 23 on my right eye. Left eye turn out awesome for about a week after my right eye was done. I had redness and light sensitivity and it got clouded. I was told to continue Predsolone drops for some weeks and taper down to one drop before return visit to check. it worked for a while then flared up again. in the mean time I had my right eye done with same resulted problem, it's been that way off and on since January. Doc says to keep using drops, but it only helps until I stop using them and i am back to clouded vision. One thing I noticed when i SLEEP AND WAKE UP IT HAPPENS. cAN ANYONE STEER ME TO WAT CAUSING THIS?

      Might not help you, but our health group found significant eye improvements in general with removal of grains and sugar from diet. No joke. I was able to change contact Rx as result and haven't yet needed cataract surgery in other eye which had been scheduled.

    I suffered a retinal detachment and had to have a vitrectomy and laser surgery to reattach the retina. A few months later a cataract had formed and had to be removed. I am now scheduled to have this to help improve my vision.

    what is the likelihood of retinal detachment or other retina complications after cataract surgery?

    • @jh4675
      @jh4675 3 роки тому

      Read 2018 report saying about 1% or less may have issues with retinal detachment or tears, although research also says those folks may have had that happen anyway w/o the VAG procedure. Higher risk for those with risk before cataract or VAG and for those highly myopic. I'm concerned about same as myopic in R eye and family history of detachments.
