Would love to get your impressions on this boat. It's on my short list for a future upgrade. Especially interested in what you thought of the water ballast system.
I'll try to summarize my impressions on the blog www.blur.se in the next week. The water ballast gives the boat a number of additional "modes" with a shorthanded crew... as an example, the next stage of this trip was with just 2 people (I jumped ship). They sailed with the big A2 for 12 hours and found themselves in 14-16 knots of wind in TWA 135. With the J/111 I it would be necessary to change to a smaller sail in the middle of the night. Now they just pumped in 400 l water and continued. "Stability on demand" is pretty nice :-) Also, works very well, fills in 4 min and emties very fast.
nice video, except that "crash- gybe", had us a bit worried for you and your trimming companion :-) you sail "J" boats in most of your videos, could you do a video explaining these boats, rigging, and how they differ from say your regular 35 or 40" Jennaeu or benteau pleasure yacht used by most of us for cruising.( in English please).
@@PeterGustafsson i was referring to 4:35, but I was of the impression that any gybe made without pulling in the mainsheet all the way to the center and then out again, ie: the boom just swinging from Port to starboard or from starboard to Port was considered as an "uncontrolled gybe" colloquially termed a "crash gybe" by sailors, as in essence the boom does crash over to the other side.
Ah, in my world it's a "normal gybe" and no need to pull the mainsheet in all the way unless way more wind. Risk of broaching and damaging risk is actually bigger if caught with the main all the way in.
@@PeterGustafsson thanks, but for a beginner keelboater in light to medium winds?, like I am, not used to the 'racing way', rather do the safest thing, for me in those winds I STAY HOME and watch the weather from the balcony at the clubhouse.
Great video, thank you very much. Do I correctly assume that black front sail is a regular 100% jib, and white front sail is code 0 or similar downwind sail? Why do you take down jib when hoisting code 0? I thought that both sails on J-121 are on separate continuous furlers (jib furler integrated into forestay, code 0 furler torsion-rope type attached to the bowsprit) so couldn't you just furl in the jib and unfurl code 0 or vice-versa? Also, can a spinnaker be deployed on continuous furler and torsion rope on J-121 (i.e., in the same way as code 0)?
White sail is A2 gennaker made for downwind true wind angles 130-160. Black sail is J0, or a cross between a jib and a code 0. Wind angles 40 (upwind) to 100+. Then there's a standard jib on the forestay (not used on video). All sails work independently.
Many thanks for clarification, Peter. So you attach both A2 gennaker and J0 to the bowsprit which is why you have to take down one to hoist another one? Are both sails on torsion rope continuous furlers? Can asym spinnaker be also deployed from torsion rope continuous furler attached to the bowsprit, or does it require a sock on J-121?
Both can be up at once (A2 in regular halyard + tackline, J0 on cable in halyard lock + 3:1 tackline at the endo the sprit). Typical scenario is that J0 is furled while asym are deployed. Asym is set from bag, butr can be on top-down furler or in a sock.

Which do you refer to (time in video)? These are just ordinary gybes😃
