Me personally, I would play as many diverse trading card games as possible to learn as many different systems as possible. See what works, see what doesn't, and see where I could improve or make new elements to use.
Yes, definitely. That is a must. But I don't see why we can't do both. I like to use chatgpt mainly to log rules and lore. That way, I can just ask a question, and it will bring it up for me. No looking through note books and cluttered desks. All while still doing your own research via looking at other TCGs
I'm loving all these tutorial videos, but I would love an update on shard tcg. Like maybe some videos on the new starter decks and some other Vids hyping up your game, because you guys made a great game, so don't be afraid to promote it!
So here is an example of how I have just used AI for my newest video. I completed my script with no help, and then I simply asked the AI how long it would take for me to read out the script. This is a useful tool to gauge the length of my videos without having to write filler or cut sections of my script. There are plenty of ways to use AI without it "jeopardising creativity". It makes a fantastic diary for note on world building. It's prompts aren't mind blowing genius ideas, but just relaying your information back with general notes that may help you catch something so basic it can easily be missed out or even trigger your own creativity. And now instead of recording my next video to then find out it's too short, I have an estimated time I know I can work with. And I'll say it again. I mentioned nothing about AI art and if you bring it up, then you are speaking before you listen. And if you go through life without listening, then you are going to have much bigger problems than blindly commenting online.

Do not use AI to do ANYTHING creative. It's been set in the US court that AI images do not hold copyright, and I'm betting other countries will follow that. Not only that, but AI is trained by "scraping" data, which is essentially data taken from public places without the consent of the person who posted it. AI images and books are being pumped out using stolen data as their basis. If you really MUST use AI, then only use it as a starting point and replace absolutely everything it churns out by the end to make sure that it's your own original work.

When a human does it they’re able to change it and put their own twist on it, put their own soul into it. AI does not “take inspiration”, it uses data to steal from artist, writers, etc., people who didn’t consent to their work being scraped for data. It’s soulless.
Remember kids, AI, like everything else, is just one TOOL to help you get started and brainstorm on projects. Over time, everything that the AI gave you would be replaced or heavily modified into something better. Just don't use AI to finalize your projects.

People are turned off by bad design, AI is simply a tool and you will get what you put into it. The anti-AI crowd is a loud minority that spreads a lot of misinformation about the technology.
I find the answers lack creativity, but to use this tool as a back and forth to spark your own ideas is great. I find my best work comes from bouncing ideas off of someone, and the AI is just a substitute for that, without diving deeper into its other uses.
@ShardTCG great point. It's not perfect but it definitely helps just theorize different ideas, still requires the helpful hand of the creator to parse the information and try to implement with specific rules in mind.
This was a great video. I personally have been trying to incorporate LLMs into my designing because I'm a solo designer. I would love to see you do another of these using more elaborate prompts. From my experience prompts that are longer give better results. With just a simple prompt it didn't change much. But if you elaborated more on just what you didn't want it could better generate a result. Sometimes I just throw a random TCG idea into chatgpt and see what it thinks. Maybe it's idea will help one of my other games or get me past a blockage. LLMs are a tool.

AI is best used not as a final product, but as a mood board. AI makes a lot of mistakes that a human never would, and also if you're using images... Well, I think everyone knows about that now after the past few years of fierce debates. I don't like AI, but as long as it isn't used in the final product, I'm fine with its existence
I used AI art for my TCG since I am too busy & not skilled enough to make nice-looking digital graphics. I have 402 cards in Base Set, and they all look great!
Using AI for brainstorming purposes seems like a good idea, but I don't recommend it for anyone who wants to make a commercially viable product. The reason is that AIs answer their questions by averaging the answers that feed it. This means that every answer it gives you is not the best alternative it has stored, but rather the most common alternative that appears most frequently in the database. Research on forums dedicated to game design, books and encyclopedias of design patterns end up being infinitely superior. "Building Blocks of Tabletop Game Design: An Encyclopedia of Mechanics" and "Game Design Deep Dive: Trading and Collectible Card Games" are the books I most recommend for studying the subject. And obviously, play games, not just card games, but board games and digital games, and critically challenge yourself on how to convert games that are not TCGs and that are not card games into TCG card games.
Awesome video! AI can be a really useful tool, if used right. I designed a lot of characters for my TCG which were quite basic. I used Midjourney like a Pinterest board to develop my character designs. It also helped me with drawing dynamic poses.
Been watching for a while, but i dont usually comment. Just wanted to say that i agree that ai is an awesome tool. The haters here are just haters. So long as you dont use the ai word vomit verbatim, and instead use it for ideas, then it is awesome! Ai art is not covered, but i definitly think real artists need to be comissioned for card art and such. However, i use ai art for prototypes. It makes playtesting so much better with a little something to look at.

Same here. It's a very motivating thing as a creator. I would love to have artists and be able to pay individuals for their skills one day.
