My dad actually raced a 64 Chevy in a local Farm Truck Division a few years ago, won 7 out of 11 main events for the 2022 season and the championship. Looks amazing seeing almost that exact truck model in NR2003! I'd love to see my dad's truck painted up for this mod, that would be incredible.
That pace car is a Suburban, I believe. And I was wondering about Internationals as well, or a couple of Plymouth variants. Either way, great mod, thanks so much for showcasing it, Jake! Happy New Year!
No Plymouth trucks in 1965, but Ford of Canada had the Mercury M-Series (a rebadged F-Series), plus the Jeep Gladiator (newly available with the AMC 327 V8 for '65) and the aforementioned International (which would have been the D-Series in '65).
I was born in 94, and by the time I started going to short track races it seemed like every track had at least one truck division. Funny to think just a few years before there weren't any. I did love the old SCCA truck series though.
This is probably the coolest thing ever created, a series of classic racing trucks way before someone had the idea of actually racing them IRL. A fair few cross-border raiders as well, and a van as a "pace car". Brilliant!
Man this is really cool. I think it's time to dust off my copy of NR2003! I think the only thing they could possibly do to make it better would be if we had custom engine sounds that are appropriate to the engines those trucks would have, but that'd just be a cherry on top of the sundae at this point. Excellent mod
Well I DLed NR2003 this evening. Got all the patches and what not installed. Installed reshade and then the truck mod. Adjusted my wheel and started doing some testing. Its pretty darn cool ! My older brother came by and had a blast running some practice laps. Had to install Riverside and give it a whirl too among a couple of other 70s tracks. Thanks again for heads up GP . I found some of the other 70 car mods installed a couple of them to try out as well.
I have always imagined the truck series existing before 1995 and what it would be like? C10 Chevys from the 60s, 70s and 80s on the race track? Talk about a dream in the sky and something Nascar was truly missing out on.
To be honest, I think I could see something like this using 80s trucks as a pseudo Goodwood festival, that could be held at NWB some time not conflicting with their other NASCAR obligations. Anyways cheers for the entertaining race!
When i went in 2022, the international motorsports hall of fame had one of the original square body trucks from the series buck baker had in the 80s. i don't know if its still there but it was a very cool piece.
I love stuff that sits at the confluence of big-money motorsports R&D and the natural kinds of questions every gearhead has at some point. And that, to me, is what makes things like the idea to put trucks on circle tracks or the fast-rising MotoAmerica King of the Baggers series such fun: they are series that naturally arose from questions asked by people who OWNED the things! In much the same way the owners of American touring motorcycles might toy with the idea of a "knee-dragger bagger", circle track teams might take a look at the pickups in the infield and think long and hard about what'd happen at the top of 3rd gear out of turn 4. No marketing, just gearheads using insane vehicles to answer stupid questions. Love it. (Tangent: The insane size of most modern mid-size pickups probably precludes using them as a template for pavement racing, but Mavericks, Tacomas, and Colorados might just work for a more production-based pickup series to slot beneath the current silhouette Truck Series. More than that, I genuinely believe that the current craze for trucks, SUVS, and crossovers has put cross-country off-road racing - Baja 1000, Dakar, King of the Hammers - in about the strongest position of any discipline out there.)
As a Brit I suspect I'm not alone in being totally surprised that there wasn't a real life truck racing series back in the 60s. That would have been awesome. But this mod looks fantastic.
They raced convertibles instead as their lesser distance series. But yeah, I wonder what the public reception to racing farm trucks would’ve been back then
The thickness of the sheet metal on the trucks would have allowed for a lot of rubbing without taking out the tires. 1950s trucks would also be fun to see, especially the trucks with step sides, but aerodynamics would not exist.
IIRC the turn 3 pit entry at North Wilkesboro wasn't a thing until 1995. Before then the pit road was only on the front stretch and it didnt even have a inside pit wall until sometime in the 80's or early 90's. Guessing it was on this version to accommodate a full field in NR2003.
considering the truck series didnt start till the 90's(late 90s i think) a 60s style truck series would have been pretty unexpected. because these old trucks were pretty aerodynamic stock for what they were and on top of that alot of these trucks had V8 engines stock(some came with straight 6s). so i wouldnt be surprised that nascar made a huge mistake not introducing it sooner
Love me some alternate history content! I wonder if DMR would ever consider doing a 1970s racing van mod, given how big vanning was during the decade. (They could watch some modern Japanese *dajiban* action for some inspiration/motivation)
I like how you mention that by tweaking the physics of a 2003 truck they're able to achieve good results, something that is rareley seen these days with modern sims and all their underlying physics engines...
This was different, but fun. I'm usually more into the road racng, and other series, but the older NASCAR stuff can be nice. I'd probably say 1992 marked about the end of the "classic" era in NASCAR. Speaking of the older stuff, is it possible to kind of emulate the 1st half of the 1979 World 600? Of course, I suspect a notable part of how/why that scrap was able to go on for so long like it did is because the guys weren't quite pushing the cars to their limits. That said, it seems they were pushing a bit too hard, as engines and things started to go not long past halfway, and then the 3-wide running 2 rows deep was over.
ok, I was just making a carset to race in nr2003 and I thought of making a homage to you jake, and I was thinking in a name of a new axelson on the field, and here you are releasing a nr2003 video hahahaha by the way, is ronnie Axelson approved by you?
Just two nitpicks the 71 K and K truck should be a Dodge and in 1971 The King would still be all Petty Blue with Southern Chrysler Plymouth Dodge of High Point, NC as sponsor on his truck. Before Winston came along local car dealers were hot sponsors. Petty also had backing from Pepsi in 1971. STP didn't join Richard until 1972.
Is there any place to download a good version of it. I have the cd when I got it new and it won't work even with all the stuff I found on it. Tried downloading a couple places and no luck.
Ok I want to do this again. What is the set up, what do I need??? Is this a stand alone game? What internet speed do I need? Cost? Last gaming I did was Playstation 3. Thanks...
I feel like the current trucks should be the primary series. The whole idea of stock car racing was to make race cars out of the cars that regular joes drove around. I feel like today a lot more people drive pickups rather than mustangs and such
@@IanTheMotorsportsMan_YTthe problem is the same with ARCA these days. The put children in those cars, which is absolutely ridiculous. Back in the days those series had young people, yes. iracing does, and the ai is quite good, but you need to pay a subscription as well as buying the content to race with it. if you're just running offline, nr2003 is certainly the best bang for buck, but i'd take iracing over it any day if i was already paying for it for online racing. especially once they drop the proper gen 4 car they're in the process of scanning!
@@doylerudolph7965 That may be true, but I don`t class iracing as a game more as a direct debit, and perhaps another point I was making is that nr2003 is over 20 years old, I sometimes think if the exact same team kept going with the same bass code where would the game be today. and yes I agree some games would be as good if not better today, but the timescale is huge,, cheers
Hope the aerodynamics of these rolling cinder blocks was fully taken into consideration with this mod. Otherwise, it might as well just be another re-skin.😕
It's possible but braking will be extremely weak due to how the abs works. And without abs you'll just lock up every corner on keyboard So basically its possible but itll be very difficult, if you have a controller then def try to use that instead of a keyboard
That is REALLY impressive in a 21-year-old sim. Those trucks look great!
