This is why Billy was partnered with The Road Dog Jesse James. To hide his promo weakness since the Road Dog was such a legend on the mic.
not really, same shit everytime
I agree that eventually that is what happened. Roadog covered for Billy, but when they first teamed up, Jesse never did anything besides singing with my baby tonight, so Im not sure they knew how good Roadog was.
@@tomer_stern New Age Outlaws and DX time frame.
One of the best Rock promos that solidified his status in my opinion.
His status as someone who buried the entire roster then quit the business 😂
Fed legend
@@Patriotic_Eagle1995 according to you?
He was solidified way before this promo
It's good that Billy is taking this with no hatred in his heart. He was always on The Rock side one way or another when it came to talking about the business, and how Rock is in person
The only people full of hate are the people on the internet who use it in arguments
except Triple H every one knew The rock is going to be a big superster of wwe"
I liked when Edge promised not to “Billy Gunn” the King of the Ring.
That promo was the funniest thing I heard at the time
Billy Gunn seems so cool and chill
After watching Wrestling Bios it really shows that it was bad bookings that killed Billy’s singles run. Rock’s promo didn’t change the course.
Glad I found Wrestling Bios. His videos are great
One of the best wrestling UA-cam series out there
I like Billy's take. I honestly always felt that Road Dogg and Billy were just the guys that they fed to anyone that were gonna work against DX
That promo killed his singles career and he knows it😂
I had no idea how badly I needed to hear this interview.
"Bob. But my name is Billy. It doesn't matter what your name is !" - The Rock
My name's Billy It doesn't matter what your name is
Yea we know
“…and then Billy, as fear went through your body, tears went down your cheeks, AND PISS ROLLED DOWN YOUR LEG!” 😂😂😂
The part where The Rock said “Everybody still thinks THAT I ABSOLUTELY SUCK!” gets me every time 😂😂😂😂😂
Lookin good Billy
I like Billy Gunn here and he's saying what we all thought: people thought that promo buried him. The whole point is of every promo is to bury each other. I thought people made too much of it. It's not any different to what he says to everyone else.
I couldn't agree more. Great comment 👍🏾
No, the whole point of a promo is to build each other up and drive interest for the match. The term 'promo' is short for 'promotion' for a reason. Pro-Wrestling 101.
@@whodatboi2567Like a brother of wood once said "Oh testify my brother."
@@whodatboi2567 The promo is nothing. It's the story that matters. Sometimes the story is in the match from how they fight each other. Sometimes it's the fight in the promo that makes you want to see the match even more. Sometimes it's about who has the most build up in it, and who is most over. Fact is no matter how we feel about The Rock's burn to Mr. Ass, it still got over to the point that we're talking about it still to this day
@@whodatboi2567 no, you want to bury your opponent because that creates drama. How many times has the rock called the big show the big slow? One of his best segments was him imitating the big show's calling for his chokeslam. Building each other up creates no drama and no interest.
Just listened to this episode this afternoon at work. Happy to see him still working. As a kid watching the Mr ass gimmick was hilarious.
One of my fav matches as a kid was Rock teaming up with Billy and I think also Chyna. I was so hyped for that cause they put aside their diffr and put on a great performance.
Billy Bob Gunn
Daddy ass is so chill. Not that he not wrestling and is with the Acclaimed he is even funnier.
The Rocks Prayer was one of the best ever
Still The Rock's best promo of all time.
They feud was fun
Billy could play John Cena's dad in anything💯
Kudos to Billy for being such a good sport about it.
billy's being pretty humble here because he wasn't the only person production allowed rock to no sell their promos or responses, rock was constantly going into business for himself and burying people and no selling their talk, im surprised he didnt get more heat for it backstage, id be mad if production kept cutting my mic while rock gets to own me over and over, and then when your frustrated your mic is getting cut by production it *looks* like you are getting worked by rock burying you even further
"My name's Billy" is also a line from the horror movie Black Christmas (1975). I wonder if Rock or his writer got it from that.
Great to see Bob finding it funny
lol
Wrestling is such an interesting business, there's this entire subtext to everything we see.
After that promo....Vince Mcmahon looks to Billy and says...Bob...Midcard....that's your future....no more singles 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
They should actually bring him back to the WWE with the story of a oldshool tough guy, showing those young Punks whats really going on. Like Heath Slater figthing all the oldshool dudes, but this time the other way around..
After that he could do work as a Mananger part cause we dont really got notable managers anymore. And he would be a massive manage who even ca nstep in and do stuff.
Fine... I guess I got to go watch the promo again foe the millionth time. Rock really was the best.
He can say all he wants, but he was never the same after that promo. S-tier burial if ive ever seen one.
bob .. butttttt my name is billy......IT DOSENT MATTER WHAT YOUR NAME IS. good memories..
i never got the promo lol
Arguably the greatest promo of The Rock's career
According to Prichard, Rock wasn’t exactly thrilled about working with Billy…for Rock, it must’ve felt like a step down. The hope I guess, was that Rock could elevate Billy as a heel, but that didn’t happen
Can’t blame him
Rock was never a team player , makes sense
It was he was just headlining wrestle mania
@@redshift912Rock was Mr. Team player, just protected his gimmick when he thought he had to
@@redshift912 Rock lost more often than any top star ever did and sold his ass off for his opponents. That sounds like a team player to me. He just would destroy on the mic.
The Rock had his own writer?!
Russo & Ferrara did his stuff until mid ‘99 (Ferrara is the one rehearsing Rock’s promo with him in ‘Beyond The Mat’ ). Then Brian Gewirtz became his writer & was later hired onto the WWF creative team for a few years. Gewirtz still works for Rock & got name dropped by Cody on Raw months ago when he was taking jabs at the ‘Final Boss’ nickname.
The Rock cut an even better promo on Billy Gunn going into that match. They never show it and I can't find it anywhere. The Rock sounded a bit angrier and was more personal. He basically was upset at Vince for booking a match against Billy Gunn. He basically called him a "jobber" and talked about main eventing PPVs with guys like Austin for titles and now he was reduced to having matches with a "Bobby Gunn". Does anyone else remember this?
"Nothing's ever malicious." Ahmed Johnson might beg to differ! 😂
Ahmed thought everyone was against him.
My opinion, Austin would do the same exact thing. A lot of guys would be in the middle of a great promo and Austin would either flip em off and the crowd would lose it or just go "What?" and all the heat is gone.
he does mind he just explained it in a polite way but it sounded like he was really pissed about it
Billy always have and will be a fan. But that was what was supposed to have happen. They (Vince) wanted Rock to crush your heat. HE was the new face after Stone Cold. We would later see Cena, as great as he is, totally crush any heat his opponent had. At one time HBK crushed any heat Bret had. So yea, it happened how it was planned. More than likely from Vince.
On our screens again soon. Cobra Kai season 6.
Why not show the promo?

@@MetalJT24 ok
Yeah I feel him here. Because his 'feud' with The Rock sucked largely due to just not booking Billy Gunn in a way where the audience could take him seriously. Of course that promo simply needs to exist because of how good it was, but there were other things that were more egregious that probably should have been handled better. It didn't do anyone any favors, including The Rock making Gunn look as weak as they did.
I mean...that was iconic promo, INSTANTLY one of the top ten promo of all time. It may be the best single target Promo in The Rock's vast repertoire. Including the Kurt Angle Milk, Kane Big Red Retard, Big Show AHAHAHAHHHHHAHH, and my personal favorite, "The Undertaker's 33 pound head." And Mr. Ass was already super over so it didn't matter. But I cried laughing at that. I'm glad Billy enjoyed it as much as we did. And with the Nation vs DX parodies...hell of a time to be a fan.
I watched the promo. I could have sworn Billy Gunn was out there with The Rock. 2. I also thought this was on Raw & not Heat their like 3rd tier show or lower.
I know Billy says he doesn't care & he did it for fun. Like he says that now. I'm not so sure he felt that way back then.
Yeah this promo probably ruined his career. However if Billy was just there for a pay day then yeah he doesn't like wrestling as much as he claims.
Lesnar Gunn?
Anybody who knows wrestling knows that isn't just the best delivery of it doesn't matter what your name is that was the very first time the Rock said "it doesn't matter what your name is."
I think people who think Rock was trying to bury Billy's push with that promo are just working themselves into a shoot.
Billy said himself he wasn't the best promo. The only thing Billy did wrong was be a midcarder trying to move up the card into one of the most stacked main event level rosters in the history of wrestling. You had to be a truly complete performer to have a chance at that level, because if you couldn't hang with Rock in a promo, you sure as hell weren't gonna make it against Stone Cold or Triple H. Everybody in that main event echelon back then had a full grasp of the business, they knew how to work in the ring and on the mic, if you couldn't do both, you weren't ready yet.
It's not like that promo was particularly malicious, it was just a great Rock promo to throw on the pile of great Rock promos. If one Rock promo is enough to bury you, you are probably already laying in the hole waiting for him to throw dirt on you anyway.
It was a legendary promo, but to say it ‘buried’ him? He was in DX, one of the biggest factions around in those times, and a multiple tag team champion. Wasn’t exactly a jobber was he?
How old is this guy? He’s jacked …what’s he on?
So called fans saying The Rock buried Billy during this. Is a total idiot!
Rock was pissed being in a program with Billy and went out there to kill Billy’s singles career and he did that it shows a lot about Billy that he’s never held a grudge and had always been able to have fun with the promo
This is why I think guys like Roberts and Foley are far better at promos than Rock and Cena, those latter two just completely buried their opponents and not many wrestlers came out better after feuding with them.
Billy is being too fake, what's the point of not telling the truth and giving his real feelings, he's already 60
How is he fake did he answer differently in another interview
@@robnix4146 I think he's lying when he said he liked the rock's promo and all smiling and laughing about it, he's not being truthful, he was pissed af probably, and also the whole smiling all the time and saying all the right things in these interviews it just feels fake to me he's not being himself
Damn Billy is jacked
When he did the eye roll promo on Undertaker (a man I admire like no other) and said "undertaker you come on down and do that "die die die" and all that stupid crap all you want" I lost my sh*t , like billy says it's wrestling , if you get offended then go do somethin else.
