    - "Headbanger" is my favorite BABYMETAL song, personally and this is my favorite performance of this song. Well, except for the special time they let Moametal take over the lead vocal part on her 20th birthday, which is always referred to as "Moabanger" by fans. Legend 1997 is my favorite "normal" performance of this song.
    - Su-Metal is an extremely talented vocalist. She has been singing since she was like 6 years old, she's like a child prodigy and she has only gotten better and better as time ahs gone on.
    - I think this is your first Su-Metal "death glare" experience, which she is quite well known for lol, she is very intense. Her presence on stage is massive despite being very small lol
    - So, this show was in Makuhari Mess with about 8,000-9,000 people in attendance. This is kinda small compared to some of the show they do now, but this was also back in 2013 before they even released their first album, so not too bad lol
    - Well, you are a few songs in, I think you're ready for it though. This is the "Trilogy of Death" from the Legend 1997 show. The Legend 1997 show, which was to celebrate Su-Metal's 16th birthday, tells the story of her giving up her life as a j-pop idol as she ascends and becomes a "metal goddess". You have just done the first part! There is two more though, those would be the two songs the followed this performance of "Headbanger" that closed the show. First, is "Akatsuki (Unfinished Version)" which leads directly into "BABYMETAL Death". We try not to suggest "BABYMETAL Death" too early because, well, it is intense lol. These are MUST SEE performances. If you think this song was a show, you have seen nothing yet. I don't think many people actually properly experience these songs in order, but you still can! Here are the links:
    Akatsuki (Unfinished): ua-cam.com/video/VE34mRpi6Qk/v-deo.html
    BABYMETAL Death: ua-cam.com/video/VE34mRpi6Qk/v-deo.html
    - If you want to learn more about BABYMETAL, there is a "guide" video that will teach you about the band's history, about the girls, and how they got to where they are now, as well as all sorts of fun little clips and stuff of them all as well. It is a good way to learn about them in a (hopefully) entertaining manor. BABYMETAL fans tend to like reactions to their non-musical stuff as well, the guide reaction videos tend to do well, so if you check that out, film your reaction! We'd all like to see it lol. However, BEFORE you watch that (if you do), there is a performance you have to see first because the guide will spoil it and it is definitely something you want to experience first, which is the Akatsuki and BABYMETAL Death performances I linked right before this. Here is a link: ua-cam.com/video/LcRLmizE4C0/v-deo.html
    - There are a lot of different ways you can get around the blocks. @PapaXan (and I'm sure he'll pop up in here and tell you more himself at some point) has a channel that provides resources and ways for people to react to BABYMETAL and not get blocked, or at least significantly lower your chance of getting blocked. Here is a link to his channel: ua-cam.com/channels/I6VCZx5ux46V6ZGSTd403w.html

Great reaction again. So, as it was a compilation of several live shows and festivals you watched for 'Catch Me If You Can', this will have been the first time you've seen them doing a single full live performance. This is them in their element, it is where they are at their very best, performing live. The official music videos are also very good, but this is where you get to hear Su-metal's natural vocals without the over-processing they tend to do to her in the studio recordings and this is where you get to see the show they put on - every time.
You were absolutely right about them doing more than just a music concert - especially when they play their arena shows in Japan. They are not a band that just goes on stage and plays their songs, take their bows and leave. They make the whole thing a spectacle, what they do may be closer to theatre.
The whole thing is designed to involve the audience, to make them part of the performance. When Yui and Moa jump or make a particular move in the choreo so does the audience, they also sing along with their parts in the songs where they lead chants and so on. This is a big part in what sets BABYMETAL apart from other bands and what makes them unique.
So yes you were absolutely right about how you just get sucked into the whole thing at their shows and how they become the only thing you are conscious of ... and when you come out at the end you will be exhausted, sweating and with a huge dopey grin plastered across your face having just had the best time of your life.
'Headbanger' is about a girl going to her first metal concert on her 15th birthday, but it is more than that - 15 is a significant birthday in Japan (much like 16 in most of the west). This is when compulsory education ends, so you are taking the first big step in life towards deciding your future. So she is looking back realising she will never be considered a child again and it all semed to pass by so quickly, so she is etching this special night on her heart so she will never forget it.
Legend 1997 was the name of the show. It was actually December 21st 2013, the day after Su-metal's 16th birthday - she is the Legend of 1997, that was the year she was born. Yui and Moa were 14. There were about 8 or 9,000 people in the audience that night with the Makuhari Messe in that configuration and was their biggest show up to then ... and it was about 6 months before they would release their first album.
They have gone on to tour the world every year since then and to play much bigger arenas (Tokyo Dome is the biggest headline shows so far - 55,000 people and they sold it out two nights running).

Listening to BABYMETAL is only half the experience. They write (almost) all of their songs with a live experience in mind. Some people like to call them literally "Metal Theatre" which I think isn't far from the truth. And that is only the tippity top of the iceberg. This is still very early on in their career (2013) and they haven't been sitting around all this time. Some of their bigger Japanese shows (and even some overseas big shows like Wembley Arena 2016 or The Forum 2019) are nothing short of mindblowing. If you've seen this, remember you've only scratched the surface.
Best live band on the planet in my opinion.
PS: on a sidenote, I wanted to add that the crowd do not even really need to know what they should be doing. They only have to watch Yui & Moa (the twin-like dancers on each side of Su). Their role in the band is officially "scream & dance" while Su is "vocal & dance". Their main purpose is to be the crowd entertainers and guides. When they jump, you jump; when they shout, you shout; when they throw their arms, you throw your arms. That's how a BABYMETAL show works.
... And who would leave those two adorable young ladies hanging, jumping alone in front of a dead crowd ? I certainly wouldn't ! That's the magic of BABYMETAL for ya.

I think their first album was very much written with the audience in mind. It seems like they went away from that a little bit in later songs. It seems like only their early songs had parts written for the crowd. I wish they did more of that I think it's very cool and unique in the metal genre. I assume that is a Jpop thing.

I've seen hundreds of BM reaction vids, and almost no one acknowledges how absolutely massive the crowds are... I'm glad you understand the crazyness of a 16yr old and two 14yr olds with complete control over the entire crowd. The entire synchronized crowd jumps get me every time, just fucking goosebumps. To have seen the band in this era in Japan must have been surreal, you could charge a parking lot of Tesla's with all that energy.

    Great song choice!
Even though the lyrics are about a fifteen year old girl attending her first heavy concert, Su-metal was only fourteen when she recorded the studio version.
It's not biographical, but it is a song she could relate to. At that age she was performing on stage, rather than attending concerts. : )
Su was sixteen at the time of this 'Legend 1997' performance. The concert was named for her year of birth.
The ending with the gong is one of their many tributes to the influential Japanese band X-Japan.
I'm thrilled they put 'Headbangeeeeerrrrr!!!!!' back on the setlist in 2019.
It was one of their earliest hits, but they didn't play it at all in 2018.
I finally got to hear it live at the LA Forum in October 2019 at the 'Metal Galaxy' album release concert.

The combination of power and cuteness it what makes Babymetal special. Their big concerts are full on theatrical productions with Yui and Moa conducting the crowd interactions. From your reaction they took you on a real ride. That's how it starts for everyone #notacult. There are also puns and messages in the songs built around the lore created by producer Kobametal and then amplified back by the fans themselves during the concerts and in social media. Interpreting the connections to pop and Japanese culture is a nerd's dream...so with that in mind:
This song is a bittersweet coming of age story about a 15 year old school girl going to a concert and braving the mosh pit, while knowing the freedom of the moment won't last long. It's used to celebrate BM birthdays and both Yui and Moa have taken the lead in it for their birthdays. The song probably resonated with Su because this concert was the day after Su's 16th birthday and she had also recently graduated from high school and the idol group "Sakura Gakuin", Yui and Moa were both still members, and started working full time with Babymetal. I think of it as a companion piece with "Babymetal DEATH" in the same concert as that's about transition too.

Ah, wondered why I didn't get the notification for Megitsune but well done on getting it back up. Don't worry about the pausing - we understand why it's necessary. Some reactors put a logo over the video in parts as an alternative to pausing which seems to work. Loving your journey down the Fox Hole so whatever or however you react/edit/pause is fine by me. If you want another song with the live amazingness of Catch Me or Headbanger, then try IDZ live at their first UK Metal fest and first festival outside Japan - in front of 65,000 Metal heads who'd never heard of them. They were aged 15 and 16 and walked out to face that crowd of dubious Metalheads anyway cos they have nerves of steel and ended their set (which Metallica had persuaded the festival producers to let them have) with this iconic performance of Ijime, Dame, Zettai (Bullying, No More, Forever). And the crowd? ...well, see for yourself how the crowd reacted! ua-cam.com/video/Ro-_cbfdrYE/v-deo.html

    Great reaction.
I don't know if it's been explained already but this concert, Legend 1997, was to celebrate Su's 16th birthday, she was born in 1997. The other 2 girls were 14 at the time. There is also a great live version of Megitsune from the same show with the same crowd energy.
It's true what you say about being at their concerts, it's total escapism, but I would say that goes for most bands live concerts.
Why not try a Su solo next time, Amore. This is a compilation from a few different venues including the stage up above the huge screens at the Tokyo Dome ua-cam.com/video/GSufz9-CkTQ/v-deo.html

Nice & thanks again from Japan 有難う💛。Can you believe that this is the 12th song after 11 exhausting performance (and still 2 more) ? In this video, you heard the crowd shout some words at 06:47. The words are "ki-e-ro 消えろ!" meaning "get out of here!". This shout occurs wherever they go on this planet and whenever Su-Metal directs her mic towards audiences. BABAYMETAL has now carefully restarted their activities and already held 2 shows on Jan.19 /20 taking very strict countermeasures against infection. Approx. 5,000 audiences (limited in a big arena with 15,000 capa.) went nuts. I was there! ヽ(^o^)丿

@@michaelafrancis1361 Yeah! That's true. Now their physical strength has been developed through hard training (In a recent article, Moa said she could not stop doing workout everyday). At Budokan last month, it looked to me the 3 girls did not get out of breath at all after 70 minutes almost non-stop performance of 11 songs and 20 minutes 2 encores thereafter. They are amazing.

      @michaelafrancis1361 3 роки тому +2

@@flugelhornoldman1362 I agree. One slightly worrying thing to consider is that it may be possible that the health problem that led to Yui Mizuno's departure from the band might have been a result of the grueling physical regime possibly leading to long term repetitive injury. The reason I say this was because of an interesting remark that Moa made in an interview. She was asked what she had learned from Yui's leaving the band and replied that she had learned to always remember to do her stretches before her dance performances. Speculation I know but it does make you think.

Su was alone but definitely rejoicing and Moa / Momoko were dancing with a big laugh in the center. Moa's facial expression was clearly saying "Su-chan! You did it again".😄 And only in Day-2 RoR, Su shouted ""We can be standing here owing to you guys. I really appreciate you all coming today again!". She made me move to tears again.😢

They really know how to bring it back down enough that it has extra impact when they crank it back up. It's like multiple smacks to the face. And we're like, "Thank you, may I have another?" BabyMetal is almost always better live. It's as much about the performance as it is the music. The production is always amazing, especially for their Japanese shows. The only time I don't prefer them live is Megitsune, which you've just done, and Karate, if only because that MV is just breathtaking. Karate is good live. All their stuff is good live, it's designed to be, I just prefer the MV. It helps you appreciate the live versions more, too.

You've picked some good tracks to react to so far. The two most glaring omissions would be "Rondo of Nightmare" (with the "Mischief of the Metal Gods" intro) and "Road of Resistance". The former will give you a great introduction to the Kami band, as well as a nice solo by Su, showing off her vocals. The latter will demonstrate how these three teenage girls can totally dominate a whole arena and have the crowd eating out of their hands (although it does have a tendency to get blocked, so take suitable precautions).
And once you're done with these more reactor friendly songs, and perhaps think you have some sort of a grasp on what Babymetal is all about, then we will introduce you to the really wild stuff and show you just how deep this fox hole goes :-)
You can tell that you have been accepted by the fanbase once you start seeing recommendations for "Tales of the Destinies" and "Doki Doki Morning" in the comments. But you are not ready for those yet.

Headobangyaaaa! I love the harpsichord in this! Like you said, it matches the heavy driving metal of this song! Soooo gooood!
Next to Megitsune, I'd say Headbangeeeeerrrrr!!!!! is the next most popular/iconic so when it comes to fans who have come to know the entire catalog, even if the numbers on YT would make you think otherwise. Though, for sure, Gimme Chocolate is definitely their most well known track.
Many many people, including my go to gurus (Grington 300 300, Rick Wagner, and Fulgelhorn), have left many comments with the in depth meaning and info of Headbangeeeeerrrrr!!!!!, so I'll skip going over all that and just add to it.
Lots of people have said something about how the crowd interaction is a huge part of the experience of BABYMETAL. Su has said in an interview (or rather I believe in the BABYMETAL reacting to UA-cam reacting to BABYMETAL vid) that it's almost like (paraphrasing here) each new crowd makes a new version of their songs at each new show, so she really looks forward to making new sound with each crowd. This is a big part of Japanese music culture, that crowd interaction, and not just for BABYMETAL or heavy music. You should see the huge crowds and insane interaction some of the big BIG pop idols get! Bit...getting back to it...
All of this is included into the concept of "ai no te", and I'm not sure of the direct translation, but its all basically what we've all explained to you about how the crowd seems to know just where and what to do as if they are choreographed as well. That's why Yiu and Moa are much more important than some give them credit for! While we all love Su, and know that BABYMETAL was built around Su, and Su is my personal "best metal" fav (I'm a vocalist and she's my new best inspiring idol!), Yui and Moa are integral to what makes BABYMETAL BABYMETAL! It's them that the crowd look to for the cues, its them that are sang along with, and its up to them to get and keep the crowd engaged! Love Su, but love Yui and Moa just as much!
In any case....I'm gonna back up the request for The Miracle of Sonisphere, with Ijime Dame Zettai, or just IDZ. I believe there's a link somewhere in the comments!
    Looking forward to it!
    Kitsune dao! \m/

Great reaction, it’s a pity that you paused the video, otherwise we probably can see some more surprised expressions from you to this diverse high energy song.
Usually reacting to their live performance videos on UA-cam will not be blocked, only the official one will. Or you can do some editing to the original video, like blurring or putting some big transparent logo on it and putting the screen behind you etc, by those ways maybe there is no need to pause it any more, It would be great to see none pausing or fewer paused live videos of them again, cheers 😄

Based on the stuff you're picking out of these BABYMETAL videos, you're gonna have a real blast running through their catalogue. There's loads of variation. I can see you getting in to other Japanese alt-idol groups too. You might even dig Perfume (EDM, very slick shows, same company as BABYMETAL).

Su collapses there after hitting the gong and then it goes right into the next song which is the acoustic verson of Akatsuki. Yui and Moa leave the stage and Su sings from that position to start the song, from a sitting position. They always did a great job with the theatrical elements of the show even when they didn't have a big budget. This was only a 9000 person show so the budget wasn't huge.
If you think that is theatrical check out 'Babymetal Death' live at Legend of 1997. It's the finale of the same concert. The first half of the song is pretty normal but the second half is very theatrical. That is all i will say i don't want to spoil it. This was a special occasion so they had two special stage shows. One at the start for 'Ave Maria' and one at the end for 'Babymetal Death'. It was the lead singer Su's 16th birthday. She was born in 1997. This was Dec 21 2013.
Their most theatrical show was Legend S for Su's 20th birthday. It was similar to Legend of 1997 but it had a much bigger budget because they were much more established and the crowd was 20 thousand or so. But that is blocked on youtube except for 'No Rain No Rainbow' which is a sad ballad. Everything after mid 2014 is blocked on youtube but they only got bigger and better.

Yeah, you're right, Babymetal arena concerts look like some kind of heavy metal Cirque Du Soleil in some respects. I can't wait until I can finally attend one. This video was one of the two that originally got me hooked on Babymetal. I'm not a live concert kind of guy and after watching this one for the first time even I was starting to think I needed to see them live at some point. Discovering them in the middle of a global pandemic was not the best circumstances, but I don't think I'd have gone down the reaction channel rabbit hole and found them otherwise.
    Two recommendations:
The official music video for "Karate" was the second video that got me hooked. Really great video production on top of being an excellent song. Very rare case where the studio version is best (imo)
Also I'd recommend the performance of "Akatsuki" from the Budokan Black Night concert. It's a Su-metal solo ballad and one of my all time favourites

Babymetal and their producer, Kobametal, pride themselves on being diverse in their musical styles and surprising the listener. They can't really be categorized as metal, j-pop, prog rock, etc. They are sometimes criticized as not being metal and responded with a song all about bubble gum and infinite possibilities. It's one of their most bubblegum pop songs with drums quoting from funky drummer/Powerpuff Girls, and it is often interpreted as a big FU, so sometime check out Awadama Fever.

BABYMETAL is all about the live performances, if you can react to live concerts (others will advise how not to get blocked). They are insane live (seen them 3 times now). High energy from start to finish. It is very much theatre as a concert - their arena tours have insane stage sets. And yes BM audiences know the routine (almost every song has a set of either call/response, chorus joins ins (always on the Moa/Yui sections - you NEVER sing along to the SU parts) or actions - for example PA PA YA! we wave towels we bring). IF I had to compare the nearest UK concept would be the Rocky Horror Theatre Show in that the audience has a role in the show and know what to do and when..
They specialise in the WTAF moments and changes in pace and tempo are common in their songs. Their metal influence comes from every genre and with the latest album now blend other cultural music into theirs.
Most Japan concerts the audience is around 20,000 (always sold out). Their largest was 2016 and 2 nights at Toyko Dome - 55, 000 per night in something the size of a US baseball arena. They have sold out Wembley Arena in UK and The Forum in LA.

Great reaction and their live shows at large venues in Japan are at a different level and Babymetal is like a hit Broadway show touring, it's a total experience. This particular show was on Dec. 21 2014, one day after the lead singer's (Su-Metal - born in Dec. 1997) 16th birthday, so this is her sweet sixteen birthday party, attended by 8K fans. Their biggest show was a two day show at the Tokyo Dome (55K each day) held in Sept 2016.

Great reaction :) Their production used to be so simple but so good thats one of the reasons ppl suggest the old concerts (that and a lot of copyright issues)... I kinda miss that compared with shows nowadays which r more a nice stage and background less theatrical... I wonder if its because they go more out of japan now... Songs speaking i do like some of the new album songs but not one of them is in my top 10 though.. The 1st and 2nd album had something unique and they tried to go elsewhere with the 3rd... So most ppl who wanna get the vibe of BABYMETAL r suggested to first listen to first 2 albums... My favorites (i can't even number them cuz i like them all lol) r Su-metals solos
Akatsuki (recommended budokan black night 2014)
Amore (only compilation exists on YT)
No Rain No Rainbow (power metal balad) at LEGEND S concert
And ofc Rondo of Nightmare with Mischiefs of God intro (kami band solos) at budokan black night 2014.

After all this Covid stuff dies down, you should plan a trip to Japan and try and see them there. I have seen this band 7 times, both in the US and in Japan. Every show was fun, but the big arena shows in Japan are a whole different experience compared to the smaller venues they typically play internationally. But I will say, if you do get to see them in the US....DO NOT SIT IN THE BALCONY...if there is one, get up in the crowd and somewhat near the stage. I have seen them only once from a seated balcony spot and will never do that again. It was still fun but it almost ruins the experience, you really have to get right in the midst of the crowd and get a floor view of the stage to get the right vibe.

Live BM is best and complete concerts are better because of the "show " aspect. This is a video of the last three songs of the Legend 1997 concert which is about the transition of Su-metal into a metal goddess and I encourage you watch it and maybe to react to it.
Su finishes the manic energy of Headbanger collapsed on a podium center stage; she starts the ballad "Atasuki" in that same spot; then after the lyricism of that we are dragged back into the death metal finale of "Babymetal DEATH". I think it's important to remember that Su is only just 16 here, it's easy to forget given the maturing of her performance, particularly in "Atasuki" and Moa and Yui are only 14 and I could not imagine being in front of thousands of people with all the lights and pyro at that age. Also the lighting design and production should be complimented. So now get ready for the show.
