Thanks for creating this, I too saw that exit often in the past but never took it and explored. That was years ago - over two decades now. I've since learned about the former Naval presence there and thought it was extremely interesting.
Thank You for the Tour. I lived on that Island in 1985, during My Apprentice Training, aka "A" School. It seems so long ago, yet like yesterday. The drive onto T.I. took Me back to being a bit anxious when I was checked in. My Heart even Sped Up, almost wanting to pull My ID out. In and around that anchor to your right, was the guard shack that stopped the bus, and asked for Our ID. It seems so funny now, because to this day, it is still that procedure. The sight of Candlestick Park could be seen exiting off Base, of course it was a different bridge back then. I wish I would have gone back before the CG Left the Island. More importantly, I wish I would have taken more pics. Enjoy Yourself, it is one of the Greatest Places in America. One note, as You traveled toward the back of the Base, that is where the Firefighting took Place. It is also where the Gas Chamber was. Good Times Indeed.
Growing up in the 60s in Chinatown, my Dad was a Cook for his last 20 yrs at the Treasure Island Admiral Nimitz Club. My Dad got us kids old enough to help him fold Won Ton on Sat AM for $50. Actually it was fun! Thanks for the history as this week 6/10/2023 I am reflecting back and now! It needed toxic clean up bad and Federal gvt need to chip in $$.
I grew up on treasure island. My family has been there since 98. They are still there but I moved out of the Bay Area. Treasure island was my long home. So crazy to see there is finally big cranes and development. After so many years about it happening. It’s finally here.
That’s happening almost everywhere. I saw a post recently at a camp ground they have a policy that you cannot camp in your car. Clearly aimed at those living in their car.
WOW. My old Navy base in the 1990s. TI has really changed.
Looks like a lot more changes coming soon the last time I drove by.
Mine in the '80's for A School...........what a Great Duty Station
