- This is my review for the Coleco TopRacer Mini Tabletop Arcade Console that I backed on Kickstarter in 2023. Previously I had reviewed the Coleco Berzerk and Frenzy Mini Arcades that were released last year and was very disappointed in those units. In fact, I am still waiting on my replacement PCBs to fix them! However, Top Racer is here now and did Coleco do a much better job with this one?

I got my motherboard replacements, and they now work as they should. I got Top Racer to, I am a little underwhelmed. I've been riding high in the retro scene with my original ColecoVision I got in 82' and been purchasing old, new, and even enhanced games for it, so when I heard Coleco... my expectations were probably too high, but my Micro My Arcades ones are so much better.

You about sum it up perfectly here... I don't own Top Racer, but I do own Berzerk & Frenzy.
The quality of the shell is not like the original, the labels are VERY cheaply made and not glossy like the original either. Where you could once easily wipe off a fingerprint with the glossy labels, these can be perm damaged with fingerprints sitting too long and scratch WAY easier than the originals.
The original control panels had a double or triple thick laminate to protect the control panel label too and felt nice. The new one is just a cheap sticker with no protection. These were clearly just to play off the nostalgia in us all. If they made these better (they could charge a bit more) they'd be reviewed so much better.

Notice the line on the screen above the buildings in the sky. Another reviewer brought that up in his review. Not sure if it’s dead pixels or the rom, but it’s an issue.

Fun fact they just released a month ago the top racer collection on current gen consoles. Another fun fact this game is huge apparently in Brazil and South America. I have been playing all these old racers recently so very familiar with em.

I still haven't installed my replacement pcb boards, Pdubs...If you never get them, let me know and I will donate them to the Loft. I have no love for these anyway... the Coleco name got me. I used to have the Coleco Frogger as a kid.

man coleco can't seem to catch a break! sad to hear these tabletops didn't turn out so good. this one seems decent but yeah if I really want top racer I guess there's that compilation out on consoles. also extremely confused seeing the bleem! logo, I have to wonder what the heck that's about.
Yeah it's OK, it's better than the other 2, but nothing to get me excited
I got caught up on the Coleco nostalgia hype. I should have backed the New Wave Toys Berzerk and Frenzy… oh well at least I didn’t back the Rainbow Brite Coleco kickstarter.

The ROM is a Sega Genesis port (if you go to Options you'll see a picture of the iconic 3 button controller). Disappointing but not unexpected, a lot of mini arcades use Genesis ROMs (like say the Mortal Kombat mini arcade), probably cheaper to emulate. Now if there was a way to add Road Rash there...

Yeah, something didn't feel right to me when Coleco tried a second time to reignite this failed Kickstarter. Nothing had changed with the messaging and it seemed very slapdash. The prototypes looked too good to be true (and of course they were) and something just felt fishy to me. And with New Wave Toys coming out with a much superior product (and price tag to match, of course), I just didn't want something so cheap that it wouldn't even remind me of the great Coleco's of the past. These new Coleco machines remind me of those cheap knockoff Playstation and Xbox controllers you get packed in with emulation consoles. Sure, they look like the real deal until you actually pick them up and start playing with them.
I'm dismayed at how crappy these machines turned out. Even the My Arcade products look like a New Wave Toys quality compared to them. It stinks that there are many companies out there who show they don't care about the beloved properties their representing and are just in it for a quick buck. Thanks for taking a hit for the team PDubs, because it will help others know to steer clear of this company.

I think the few I had in the 80’s were Donkey Kong and PacMan. My sis my had frogger don’t remember100%. I loved those as a kid wish I knew what happened to them.
We only had the Pac-Man back then, my sister has it right now
@@PDubsArcadeLoft you’re so lucky I don’t have anything for my childhood a few things my parents were saving were in the closet in the basement and the sewer line broke and destroyed everything in the closet. I had a ton of baseball cards from the 80s. I mean a ton. I had some original Star Wars toys, I had some of those big wrestling figures that were just made out of rubber, those were my favorite. Matter fact, I’m going on eBay right now to see if I could find the wrestlers and the ring.
I got mine and was like “what am I going to do with this?” I just put it right up on ebay and sold it for $150

I'm not sure why anyone was shocked the product was so shoddy. Was the "surprise" that anything shipped at all given the history of Coleco Holdings?
Wheres the music???????????? Thats half the reason to play Top Racer 2 which is one of my favorite games! Actually been playing the collection on Xbox that just came out last month.

Hi pdubs I still did not get my top racer kickstarter no notification nothing will never again buy from this company they are not transparent or anything they are off to a horrendous start.

i dont like any mini tabletop games because it is way too small screens. it takes magnifying glasses to be able to play and see the screen properly. i dont see the fun to play with this and even for collecting. some just have too much money to waste. there are many other ways to play those games on a big screen.
