I paid off my loans years ago, but I think it's dumb that we can give billions of dollars for WARS, but not to teach are kids in college. With the cash we've sent THIS YEAR alone....we'd pay ALL Student loans for everyone.

@@phillipsandcastle8387 explain how it's a strawman. It's the government using tax money from workers who didn't go to college to pay for the education of those who did go to college and who earn up to $125K, which is more than most factory workers or construction workers earn.

Pay me to get a social economics degree so I can work at target because no one wants to hire a social economics degree holder and then I'll go back to school take out more debt in student loans get a degree in history, realize there's no money in teaching go back for an engineering degree and then work for a few years messing up building projects because I don't know how to actually be on a job site because I've been overly educated have the president pay off all my debt and I can retire with a massive pension and salary and I never had to pay a penny or pick up a single brick.
I want to get a refund because I paid off mine.

I get the frustration from those of us who have paid off our student loans. A lot of this though is due to circumstances out of their control. As of last December, approximately 132 billion has been spent on loan forgiveness. What I find curious is the lack of outrage over the PPP fiasco. That program cost taxpayers $790 billion, yet nobody seems to care about that one bit. The only difference between the two programs (to my understanding) is that students borrowed their money with the intention of repaying their loans, while PPP applicants had no intention whatsoever to pay it back knowing there were no repercussions. The only question left is how many of you are raging about student loan forgiveness who took out a PPP loan and defaulted on it???
PPP loans were handed out to small businesses to help stay afloat in the midst of a pandemic, which is vital to the economy in the long-term. With student loan forgiveness, the root cause is not being addressed. Colleges will continue to charge inflated tuition and we’ll end up back to where we were.
I work without degree in the field in which I work. And every year I see more and more requirements for a degree, even for the simplest positions, since the number of university graduates is growing every year and this dictates the emergence of such a requirement. And now I find out that the goverment will pay my competitors for the taxes that I have been paying regularly all these years so that they can take my place? If we're talking about fairness for everyone, I'm entitled to a refund of my taxes.
I too chose not to go to college due to the cost I did not want to be burdened with. I find it unfair that my hard earned money is now paying for someone else who also made a choice.
If I have to pay for youngsters student loans then youngsters should have to pay my medical bills.

Student loans recipients are also tax payers. Nothing in life is free. Would you rather they pay the loans or apply for food stamps? Which government assistance should they apply for?
It’s sad and not surprising to see most of the comments in here actually support low income earners keeping their job instead of going to college to benefit themselves their community and the economy as a whole.

Does anyone know will we get back the money they immediately took when our taxes dropped from the student loans ?
From what I've read, it should be about 2 months after the date of notification of debt forgiveness. I was notified on May 1st. It could be sooner.

I wouldn't count on any of this. Student loans are forever non dischargeable, death forced, block forced, dig up the grave to see if any valuables buried therein. Even a Ralph's job application asks if you ever defaulted on a student loan. Nice job Ralphs, too bad you can't check credit for a job like that (yet). Although, I could understand the need to find gracious (i.e. no student loan people). After all, student loans will always be there even after 875 quadrillion years after there are nothing but bones left in the coffin. It is a good way to identify the stupid people that took them out. Student loans are all about graciousness, be gracious write a check for your tuition, pay as you go, etc. If you don't have student loans, you can walk the land exhaulted, be paid of in that and everything else, yeah you got it I am a NO LOAN type of person . . .

I think people who took out student loans and promised to pay them back, should have to pay them back. It’s not for me to pay for someone else’s college tuition, I had to pay for my own….
