- Heather and I took our Canon EOS R7 camera and RF 100-500 lenses to a new location for us, Orlando Wetlands. Honestly, we were not expecting much but we were very pleasantly surprised! We ended up finding and photographing my species, Red-shouldered Hawks, Blue-headed vireo, Blue-gray Gnatcatcher, Black-bellied Whistling Ducks, Roseate Spoonbill, White Ibis, Glossy Ibis, Blue-winged teal, Palm Warber, Yellow-rumped Warbler, Wood Stork, American Coot, Great Egret, Little Blue Heron, Tricolored Heron and more!

Well I know where I’m going next winter. Thanks for taking us there Phil and Heather.
Thank you, Ron! You are going to love it!
Super Super awesome video Heather and Phil, so many beautiful birds, thanks for sharing, today I photograph the hooded merganser, beautiful and it was a lífer for me 👍👌🤗
Thank you! Hooded Merganser is my favorite duck! I'm glad you got to see and photograph some!
Great in flight shots from Heather of the spoonbill, what an amazing bird
Thank you! She did a great job!
great shots by both of you, yes enjoyed it so much. thanks a million for this very special video.
Thank you very much! We are glad you enjoyed it!
Looks like a great spot! And those early pictures of the hawk were amazing. Loved the spoon-billed later on as well.
Thank you, Tim! I think will will visit there again in January of 2024.
Look like a great day for photographing birds in Orlando wetland. Looking forward to your next video.
Thank you! The next 4 videos are theme park photography with the fourth of those taking place at the Animal Kingdom park. I love that place!
We also found and loved the Orlando Wetlands. This was my first trip to Florida to photograph birds in March and I had a great time. My home is Calgary, Canada near Banff National Park. Beautiful photos you two.
Thank you! We are going to Calgary and Banff in September for our honeymoon!
Love the Spoonbill's Heather nice images, great video Phil.

Thank you!
Great video, thanks guys!
Thank you!
Fantastic images! Beautiful area.
Thank you!
It is so impressive how you can identify all these birds! I’m on a new account this is Karen Vaisman- always a big fan. Thanks for sharing!
Hello Karen! I have learned them one at a time over the years. Thank you!
Great Job, both of you.
Thank you!
Another successful birding trip Phil & Heather .. or hang on, this is already the third YT from the same day ;-)
This time I preferred (the pose of) the spoonbill-about-to-dive with the Bokehfied TM!
But for the smaller birds Heather had clearly the best shots in this video.
Thank you, Werner! Yes, Heather captured way better poses of the Blue-headed Vireo and the blue-gray gnatcatcher for sure! Thanks for watching! We did make three videos in one day. We usually like to wake up and shoot from sunrise until about 10 or 11 am but we only had one day to do bird photography (unless you count Animal Kingdom!) during our Florida trip so we tried to do as much as possible during that day.
@@PhilThach Yeah, it sure was a productive day ! And I guess when Heather's not filming or talking to the camera she gets twice as many shot to pick from ;-)
Very nice work
Thank you!
Great content, as always!
Thank you, Bill!
Heather and Phil, what a productive place. I hope to go there soon. Nice work
Thank you! You should go there for sure!
@@PhilThach We hope to spend a lot of time biking there with photography. Neat place
What beautiful photos! Great job on the Spoonbills and Hawk. Thanks for the video Phil & Heather
Thank you, Bob!
Nice work Phil and Heather. What a great variety of species. Those wetlands are a bird photographers dream location by the looks. Thanks for sharing the video 👍🙏
Thank you, Adrian! I'm so glad we decided to stop by there on the way back to Disney from Merritt Island. Now we have a new place to visit every year! :)
Absolutely beautiful images Phil and Heather!👏 Looks like an amazing place for bird photography.
Thank you, Bill!
Totally agree this is an awesome place! The boardwalk takes you right by a rookery where there are currently (Feb 8th) nesting spoonbills and great egrets that are very people tolerant allowing you to get great pictures! I’m expecting eggs to hatch around March 1st. Wood storks, vultures, bald eagles, purple gallinules, limpkins, etc, there are a lot of bird species around. Boardwalk photos are best in the afternoon with the sun at your back. It’s open sunrise to sunset allowing for great golden hour photos. It’s a great hiking area plus there are tram tours on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from 9 AM to 3 PM. (Think oversized golf carts). The first time I visited, I thought to myself “magical!”
That works out good for us that it is better in the afternoon. On our one day of birding during out yearly Disney trip, we go to Merritt Island in the morning and Orlando Wetlands in the afternoon. Thank you for the information, Robert! We hope to visit sometime other than January at some point but right now January works before for my family vacation schedule.
@@PhilThach Meriitt Island is great too! If you’ve never done it, the Lake Apopka Wildlife Drive is also good. It’s open Friday, Saturday and Sunday. It’s an 11 mile drive through the restoration area. Crews work there the other days of the week. Gate opens at 7 AM
I love the hawks and the warbler on the fence! The flying ibis is also wonderful
Thank you!
Congratulations to both of you for the wonderful photos.
Thank you, Erik!
Really fantastic bird photos , Phil and Heather what an awesome day of photo walking . Heather , my favorites are the Rosette
Spoonbills too. We have them here in Murrells Inlet South Carolina and I love watching them and when I can photograph them it makes me happy. Thanks guys for sharing your videos and photos so enjoyed them.
Thank you! We might have to visit Murrells inlet someday!
Great job guys. Heather, I love the warbler in the fence. I think it’s cool to show these birds in urban environments! Not every shot is a bird on a perch! Would love to see your editing process!
Thank you! We may make another editing video at some point.
Hey Phil, love your videos. watching your videos are like watching myself in the mirror. So thanks for sharing with all of us. I will be in Florida in early March (Disney) and plan on taking off for one day to go to a wetland to get some great birding experience. With your recent Orlando Wetlands trips where would you go if you only had one day to go our? Black Point looked really nice. Thanks
Thank you, Ray! We did Blackpoint and Orlando wetlands in one day. We woke up at Disney World, drove to Blackpoint and then went to Orlando wetlands. We were done by about 2:30 in the afternoon after getting up very early.
I love the pictures of the hawk, also the picture of the little bird in the fence. Very nice. Witch operation mode of the shutter your normally use if I may ask.
Thank you! We use the electronic shutter for wildlife. Mechanical shutter for sports.
Again, Heather has to do a video of her post processing techniques!
I’m sure she will do another one at some point. She did one a while back where she edited a landscape photography photo of one of the bridges in downtown Chattanooga.
Excellent work, Phil and Heather! Keep it up! I've been using the R7 + 100-500 combo much thanks to your influence. Now, I noticed Heather shooting a bird flying by and it seemed to me she was using electronic shutter, is that so? Does it get you better results, despite the rolling shutter?
Thank you! We basically always use electronic shutter for birds, except for maybe hummingbirds with little or no problem. The biggest problem that we see with birds in flight and the electronic shutter is the background will be leaning when it should be straight up and down if we pan quickly.
@@PhilThach thanks, Phil. Well, that is interesting. I will try electronic too and see how it goes. Hope to see a video of you guys in Brazil some day!
Lovely images of some stunning birds there Phil & Heather. Does the bird detection AF work well on the R7?
Thank you! Yes, it works very well.
@@PhilThach That's good to know thanks 🙂
Great pictures and video. If I may ask, do you shoot in log for your video? Thanks.
Thank you! No, I don’t use log.
@@PhilThach OK thanks
