Serena's generation was more competitive and had more complete athletes which is why it was hard to dominate. She excelled in singles and doubles at the same time, which is rare in this generation.She's definitely the greatest.
In Serena's era a player from the Steffi era, Kimiko Date, could come back after 13 years and beat several slam winners as a 39/43-year-old grandma. Ask Sharapova, Stosur, Li, Muguruza, Pennetta. No wonder most people call the Steffi era the "Golden Age of Women's Tennis"!

It is very hard to describe the greatness of Serena. No words can really describe her. She is passionate about tennis, she is athletic, she has a powerful and precise serves, she plays cross courts magically, she plays drop shots exquisitely, lobs and back hands. Yet there is something extra about her that makes one compelled to watch her. It is magical. Many tennis players are good, but none of them made me wanna watch their whole game. Only Serena has that extra thing, which I am not even sure what is it!!! Is it her fierceness? Or her intensity??? Or her power? I am really not sure. Serena Williams once came to Detroit and was speaking at Wayne State University, and I knew she was coming so I got her the big gift basket with a stuff bear and all kind of great stuff in it. Cost me about $60.00 and I went with my niece and was so happy. My plan was after Venus and Serena finish talking, I was going to give her the gift basket. So, they talk to all of us, and they were awesome. When they finish everybody who had gifts grab them and started walking towards Serena and Venus. Back then and maybe still now they had this skinny white woman who went with them everywhere and she stop all of us and told us to put our gifts on this long lunch table, so we all did. One guy had this beautiful painting he did of them that was really amazing. So Serena and Venus left and then the rest of the people with them left after a few more handshakes with the Wayne State organizers and then they all left. We was waiting for somebody to come back and get our gifts but nobody ever did. The look on everybody faces was heartbreaking and slowly one by one we all went to the table and pick up our gifts and left. My niece who was still young at that time was like ... uncle, you ok? yeal, I'm good I responded, and we both walked back home. True story. GRIM
