  • Tying the Knot: The Tyranny of Trauma is an interdisciplinary, performative work delivered through an improvised, experimental practice exploring the stages of grief. A collaboration between Donald Rabin (Doctor of Musical Arts and Master of Arts in Leadership), Brittany Kirschner (Bachelor of Arts in Dance) and Felipe Harker (Bachelor of Architecture), Tying the Knot brings together dance, music, visual arts and psychology to acknowledge the impact grief has on our lives. Drawing inspiration from Taylor Swift and Aaron Copeland, as well as their own experiences, the performers seek to create a deeper awareness of emotional regulation and the process of healing.
The performance was in dialogue with Former Present Today, the first solo museum exhibition in the United States of Cuban conceptual artist Reynier Leyva Novo.
About Convergence Research: Convergence Research is a collaboration between the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Center for the Arts (CWMCA) and the Blaffer Art Museum. A platform for experimentation and research for students and faculty in the McGovern Collage of the Arts, Convergence Research supports interdisciplinary inquiry and techniques to stimulate creative processes. The resulting works are performative, temporary, and in any stage of production. Convergence Research is curated by the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Center for the Arts Graduate Assistant.
