I have suffered from this syndrome for many years and had the dry eye problem so severely for more than a year that I was lucky to get 2 hours of interrupted sleep a night. The eye irritation felt like someone had thrown sand in my eyes and it was impossible to get it out! My eye doctor put me on Restasis eyedrops twice a day and after about 9/10 it provided relief. I also used moist eye packs twice a day. Once the dry eye started to come under control the dry mouth problem got worse. I tried chew gum, etc it it didn't help very much. Been using Bioteen mouth wash multiple times a year for many years and it really helps! I literally tried every single brand of over the counter eye drops for my dry eyes (in addition to Restasis) and all but one of them actually made my dry eyes worse. I even tried the expensive Oasis eye drops and they actually irritated my eyes. The only over the counter drops that help me are TheraTears preservative free in the individual ampules. These really work for me and I use them 10-15 times a day! My guess is everybody's eyes are unique and people should keep trying different brands of drops until they find the one that is right for them.

Hello, I was diagnosed with lupus 41 years ago and since then the "companion diseases and syndromes just keep piling on. I had been mentioning Sjogren's to my various specialists (don't we get an awful lot of them!) for years, but only after my regular dentist and oral hygienist talked with me about the weird mouth symptoms I complained about, did I finally get sent to the correct specialist. Thank God for dentists who are thorough. The new specialist is having me do lots of blood work and later this month a salivary gland biopsy to confirm Sjogren's. Who knows, with my "never a dull moment" medical history, it may turn out negative. But I doubt it. There's a lot of garbage on UA-cam and false information, but I think Dr. Girnita knows her stuff. At least, I've compiled a list of questions to discuss with my Rheum. doctor and the oral specialist thanks to the information on this video. I'm a singer, so having a mouth problem really hits hard. So many of my physical abilities (and brain function!) have been prematurely either taken away completely or greatly dimenished over the years. I'm trying very hard, with the help of God and some good doctors to hold on to my ability to sing. That one would be hard to lose. Jen, I pray you get the help you need as well. It's a tough row to hoe, but I'm living (sometimes painfully) proof, it can be done.

Everything you just explain is exactly what I have been dealing with. I am 54 years old living in a Skilled Nursing Facility. NOT FAIR! I have been here for three years. I had a stroke in January 2021 a long with Guillain Barre Syndrome, C Diff, and was sepsis and more. I have not walked since then. Also have Neuropathy in both feet. I can move my legs but can't stand. I also diagnosed with Calciphylaxis, which put me in the hospital for two and a half months in 2022. I'm still trying to recover from that and also I've had Shingles 3 times. I will NEVER give up! The Lord has more for me to do here! People to help! So hang in there. Stay strong, God bless

I was diagnosed in 1998 with Sjogren’s and lupus. My doctors now say it’s primary Sjogren’s. For a few years now, my dentist has been fixing old fillings, some cavities, but in the last 10 months, things have gotten worse in my mouth. I have this unusually dark staining on some teeth. I also have a sore throat at the end of the day (I’m a school based speech language pathologist) so I trying some different things. I’ve ordered some mouthwash with extra fluoride, my doctor said he also wants to get me a tray to do fluoride treatments at home. He suggested going every 4 months for cleanings. He’s going to initiate discussion with my health insurance since all my current issues are 100% related to my dry mouth/Sjogren’s. Gotta say, I 🥰 my dentist. Most knowledgeable dentist regarding Sjogren’s I’ve ever been to! I guess he got a little “extra instruction” because he’s the son of my recently retired rheumatologist. So your suggestions here are helpful. Thank you !

Thank you so much, Dr Girnita. I just ordered the ultrasonic Humidifier. I am so excited to have found this video, and I am going to check out all your other videos. I have all the horrible symptoms and I was told by my rheumatologist some years ago “oh, you have Sjogren’s Syndrome and it sometimes develops after you’ve had Psoriatic Arthritis for some years.” No treatment ever offered; it was brushed off as nothing much. Just an inconvenience to put up with. I have to say I like and respect my rheumatologist and therefore I don’t want to put him in a bad light. Anyhow, I am now wondering whether I had Sjogren’s to begin with because I have had candida in the mouth for years. I am going to check out all of your advice and am grateful I have found you.

Thanks for the info! I use the xylimelts but when I was on a pain patch for three months, it was very difficult to keep up. When I stopped the patch, I didn’t need the nighttime xylimelts. Now, just once in a while. It could have been only a flare, but literally - the next day after stopping the patch - 100% improvement so I’d add that prescription pain meds (narcotics) will dry many people out, even without SS too (and that can be a nightmare in the bathroom…). If you have ever had surgery or need to be on them for more than a week, you know.

I had so bad eye dryness that it took me up to 30 minutes in the morning to see clearly, my mouth was so dry that I almost could not eat anything without lots of extra liquids, I had joint pain, and even problems with very dry stools no matter what I ate. Only thing I found that works for me are Sea-buckthorn berries or oil. I have stopped and started a couple of times and if I stop, all the dryness comes back in 2 days. Nowadays I buy dry berries and eat 2-3 tablespoons each evening as a "snack", the tart taste has grown on me. I found this help through reading a medical study done in Lund Sweden some years ago regarding eye dryness. For me, it's become a quality of life-savior.

Yes, I know everyone is different, but when I am having more than a normal amount of coughing, my primary care doctor is good to prescribe Tessalon pearles for me. I use them sparingly though. This channel has been amazing, and I love the information that Dr. Girnita puts out there. I have severe seronegative RA, and I feel like my Sjogren's gets overlooked with everything that is going on with me. I had no idea until I watched her videos, that Sjogren's could be a very serious disease with complications, and I'm a nurse! I have learned to really dig when you are needing to find out about a disease process to learn everything you need to know. I also use Osphena for vaginal dryness, but that's an expensive drug if your insurance doesn't pay for it. I have other complications that don't allow me to take any hormones, per se.

I was diagnosed over 2 decades ago. Of course, my eyes and mouth stay dry, and I’m having trouble swallowing because I’m so dry. At night or when water isn’t handy, my lips and tongue crack and bleed. Teeth problems, too. I’m about to have total knee replacement surgery, and the anesthesiologist was completely dismissive of my issues with the old npo after midnight (even though American Society of Anesthesiologists dispute that). Is there some research related to preoperative considerations, particularly the npo? Where can I find it? I’d love to discuss this problem further with the anesthesiologist and provide literature, not just my argument.

I took an iodine supplement and by day 3 I was salivating like a baby. I read a study on it, and tried it. I had never experienced a mouth with saliva. Unfortunately, it was after I had lost almost all my teeth to dry mouth expedited decay. However, it is not 12 years out, and I supplement once in a while, and I have not had dry mouth since. In conjunction with vitamin D - this has reduce my symptom 80%?

I take xxidra for dry eye. Very expensive even with insurance, but it’s the only thing that works. The cost is probably prohibitive for many. I have tried everything in the world for dry mouth. Nothing really works. Pilocarpine gives me flushing, which is like a hot flash. I literally am drenched. I find the dry mouth, the worst part of the whole thing. I might be switching over to the other dry mouth medicine. I wonder does anybody know what the side effects are for that one.

Fluoride? I've been reading more and more research regarding it's use and it is not good. I've been doing oil pulling ( swishing with coconut oil for at least 10 min per day) , and it is helping.

Don't give up until you find a doctor who really validates You!
