My wife is adopted from Guatemala where the Quetzal is the national bird. It's a bird that I hope to photograph someday and make an amazing print for her. Thanks for the great video content, Mark!
Beautiful film, thank you. I was in Costa Rica in 1983, at that time we had to hike to the Cloud Forest. At a certain point we saw a rough wooden sign pointing up that said “Quetzal” . I looked up and there he was in all his glory. It’s engraved in my mind. So nice to see all these birds up close and personal and captured digitally.
I'm a canon guy. Getting ready for my second CR trip. I checked most of the UA-cam channels of photographers I follow who have CR trip videos and the most impressive in terms of sharpness and detail is by far Mike Smith. His Sony images were beyond WOW.
Fantastic photos Mark. Costa Rica is my favourite place for birds and the country's eco-credentials are an example to all the other countries of the world.
You sir are a master. Once again beauty you show the beauty of nature. Interesting how you point out flaws in a picture that looks perfect. Well, if something was wrong you would know, it looked like a great shot to me. I hope you do not tire of people telling you great job, because you really do the best work in your nature photography. I am learning so much seeing your work and it is important to me. I am very lucky to be able to see the works of a modern master.
sigh...I wanted to cry when you said "we should go to Costa Rica"...we returned to the US in late March and I am looking forward to heading back as soon as it is safe to do so...did a double take when the area where you saw the Quetzal came up in your video...we stood in the same spot...we were there in May of 2017 and I was lucky enough to get pics of two chicks...the mother and father were taking turns guarding the nest and bringing back food...thanks for bringing back such fond memories and for sharing your beautiful photos/videos...stay safe...
With this you can fold up tent, pack the photographic equipment away, and be content your job is done. It just doesn’t get any better Mark. Superlative work, expertly presented, a true pleasure to watch. Huge thanks for sharing. Ciao.
Hey Tim from South Africa. Have to agree with you 100%. Mark is the best. That illusive Sony 200-600 is in my thoughts every day as well. I think the secret to You Mark is you have the love and kindness of nature and the birds see it in you. They seem to know and trust you. From Graham, Cape Town. South Africa.
Love Savegre Mountain Lodge. Best Place for birding in Costa Rica. The Magnificent hummingbird is now the Talamanca hummingbird. Still a beautiful hummer. Before you pack to avoid this crisis, Costa Rica is closed now to tourism, although according to W.H.O. they have a very low case-fatality ratio of 0.88% health authorities are not opening the country yet. My thoughts and prayers are with those in eco-tourism affected by this world crisis.
I am just blown away from the sheer beauty of these birds and the awesome talent you pocess to capture them for us to view. Once again Mark, you have produced another magnificent video that I will watch over and over. Love it.
Amazing video Mark, my wife and I just enjoyed it to the fullest not only for your magnificent photos but also for your impressive narrative skills that make your videos great.
Love this! Was in Belize birding last January. So beautiful. West and northwestern. That beautiful and exotic Quetzal kind-of reminds me of the Gartered Trogans. What an amazing world. So glad I happened upon your videos.
I really should not be on UA-cam at 3am. But then again I got to go on a wonderful trip to Costa Rica with one of my favourite photographers in the world and saw all these amazing birds. Now to get some sleep and most likely dream about crazy looking green birds.
As usual Mark, superb shot of these amazing birds, I love your story telling as much as your pictures so I hope you can continue to do so. The more I watch your videos the more I wanna try bird photography, despite the huge challenge that it is for sure. Cheers
Great video. I saw and photographed the resplendent Quetzal rather poorly in 2015. It's what got me excited about birds and photography. Must go back soon to Costa Rica . I use a Canon r5 with 100-500 lens now.
OMG: Mark, what a place. And I thought we had some special birds here..... Great work Bud. As always. Greetings from total lock down in Ballito in South Africa. Warm regards Tim

The two thumbs down are from people who don’t have a passport, and are just jealous because they can’t create the magic with their own cameras. Lol ! Your camera skills are just mesmerizing !! Thank you for bringing Costa Rica to my IPad !!! And thank you for showing the capabilities of the amazing camera equipment you own, and KNOW HOW TO USE !!! You sir, are sent from the photography Gods !!! And we all welcome your powers !!!

Your videos are the best on You Tube, Mark. It was really cool to see some birds I had never seen before, and this gives me ideas for when we can all travel again after the pandemic. Meanwhile I'm happy trying to get some Western Tanager shots in my back yard. :)
