  • On the morning of August 28, 2016, the North American Rail Car Operators Association departed North Bay for the first leg of their excursion across the Ontario Northland rail system. The fine folks travelling the rails stopped in Temagami for lunch, Cobalt for a break and then ended up in New Liskeard to call it a day. In the following days they would travel to Hearst and back to North Bay again, with the trip spanning a total of 6 days.
Bug and I decided to intercept the progression at Temagami, then chased them across the northern wilderness to Cobalt. By then we had ran out of time and had to start heading home, but not before chatting with some the friendly operators, listening to stories and learning how far away some of these people traveled from to take part in this adventure. I hope one day we will be riding in one of those cars!

We have nothing like this in NZ so am enjoying all the vids on the toob from Canada and the states. They had speeders on the railways here which were called jiggers but they seam to have all disappeared since they started using vehicles fitted with rail guide wheels like up your way. atb
