    Glad to see people are making small cats again, and without the compromises the older ones have. This is very nice.

    • @BigBensBoatBrokerage

      Newer builds like this and Aventura are doing smaller lengths, but the Big Three production aren't really making smaller than 40 yeah.
      Semi-customs are even worse in this regard, lengths have just been ballooning. Privilege isn't making a model under 50', Catana at 47. South Africans semi's have also been generally getting bigger.
      And yeah, the compromises on older cats are probably why you'll never see them on this channel, unless I'm ripping into them. I don't want to sell them because I think they aren't worth it. Save your money and come to me a bit later!

      Ben Kaminsky Catamaran Review If the economy ranks like it looks like it will, they’re going to be switching to smaller boats pretty quick. At least Balance is already going in the right direction.

    My first cruising cat was the 28' Heavenly Twins by Pat Patterson in 1981. Centre cockpit and great design. Next I got an abandoned Prout Snowgoose. Terrible design and that boat was why they used to say cats could not sail upwind. Then I got a 37'Fontaine Pajot ,lived on it for 22 years and sailed most of the world .... Good lifestyle. Even when you have to pause to get money ,,,,,

    Love this design.
    I'm one for function of comfort and not size of it. If it can fit in a smaller boat, and do the same thing, that's WAY easier and cheaper than a bigger boat.

    That's basically a party barge with sleeping quarters in the hull. Not a cruiser, in terms of ocean going.

    • @thor8086
      @thor8086 Рік тому +3

      It depends on your desired comfort level. Polynesians crossed Pacific in lesser boat than that. Some choose to cross ocean only in a cruise ship, some cross in larger than 60 footers only, some never cross ocean on any boat but fly.
      I would check the design and build quality for seaworthiness over length of the boat. But the price of the boat makes it a suspect, it may be a coastal recreational cruise boat.

    I went to the bahamas with an Iroquois (30ft, 18" draft) it was amazing where we could get. We bought the boat for 5k$ put another 5k$ on it and went and learn to sail in the keys and Bahamas. Amazing experience, tiny budget.
    The biggest problem was the fatigue at anchor. We had to find a small nook with almost no waves at achor to be comfortable. But that wasn’t a big problem in most places. It’s also quite rocky in choppy sea, but still better than most monohull of similar sizes.
    We were usually doing 6-7kt, but did 12-14kt surfing down waves that caught us by surprise, that was scary!
    We crossed the gulf stream on 2l of gas / hour, something like 25-30l, very simple and efficient but a bit noisy with the outboard running.

    if you want to use outboards that's fine. but for purposes of weight distribution. i would move them forward into hull drop downs.

    You know, I think this could be the basis for a very nice power cat for the Great Loop if you leave off the mast and rigging, put some solar panels on top and, perhaps, make a roll down canvas enclosure for when the weather is bad. I'd definitely want it open for most of the time.
    I wouldn't need a great deal of speed for the loop because it isn't about the destination.
    Just thinking.

    Aside from not being a generally good looking boat, my real concern is the build quality and design. It really feels like someone said "I wanna design a boat!" and just started building them without having an actual naval architect involved. And then when you see some some of the component names, it makes you wonder how they built the thing with so little money and manage to make a profit. I have to wonder what the CE rating for them is, lol.

    • @BigBensBoatBrokerage
      @BigBensBoatBrokerage  3 роки тому

      No CE rating, if I had to guess it would be C with low number of people, D with higher number of people. It's not meant to be sailed across oceans it's debeamable. There is an architect involved, he used to work for Seawind.
