@@Malonepiper out of interest, why not just play “normally” my sisters left handed but has played with the traditional style her whole life.

@@User_turkishbarber I also write left-handed but am a bit ambidextrous as well. I golf right-handed, shoot right-handed, bowl right-handed. So, 18 years ago when I was on the practice chanter, my piping instructor taught me to hold the practice chanter the "normal right-handed" way. The next week, I returned for a 2nd lesson, and I was holding the practice chanter left-handed. He asked if that was more comfortable for me and I confirmed that it was. It just happened that way.

I was fascinated to see this as well! I am left handed, but I learned to play the pipes right handed. At first I thought this video must have been mirrored, then I realized the two pipers were playing with opposite configurations. In the traditional arrangement of left hand on top and right on bottom, many of the doublings and grace notes are played on the left hand. As a left handed individual, I find this very comfortable. I do play birls with my non dominant hand, and they can be challenging to learn; I suppose that could be an advantage in having a left handed configuration, as well as preference. If you have a weak left arm or are missing a right pinky finger, that could make a left handed configuration a necessity.
