The whole west highland lines are doing absolutely amazingly well! The Oban services are poised to double! Sprinter services on the Mallaig branch are well patronaged. Thank goodness the line was saved.
The steam lives on with the West Highland Line with the Jacobite, the only steam service in this country which will regularly run, within a set time period obviously.
Sam i live in Cumbria and we have a weekly steam hauled service from June until the end of August it's called The Fellsman running.. on the Settle and Carlisle line..from Lancaster..Preston.. Blackburn..Clitheroe..it's normally fully booked throughout the season..Loco's used are 46115 'Scots Gardsman' 5690 'Leander' 45699 'Galatea' or LMS Black Five 44932. all these loco's are based in Carnforth at West Coast Railway Company HQ.
I was stuck for about 30 minutes while heading toward Inverness from Edinburgh. We stopped and backed up about a mile and sat for a wee bit. Then, after the snow was cleared, we went ahead. It was a wonderful time in the February 2008 trip through Scotland.
In case anyone is ever here asking about the song that they use for some of the scenic shots is called "The Highland Clearences" by Silly Wizard. I only say this because it took me ages to find out for myself! lol
My uncle Jim Matthew used to be a driver on the steam locomotives on the west highland line in the old days to Oban you used to have to go tender first great in the summer but not so good in the winter I ended up his fireman when I started with BR ON DIESELS CLASS 37s 1974
Folks. You'll get better contrast if you actually make pic near 1/2 darker until the green foliage gets really more green, the gloss on metal is more glossy, and the black really black. Takes a while to get used to. But you'll eventually begin to see it ....M

The intro for Steam Days is amazing
I remembered this when it was first aired. The BBC could produce good programmes back then.
