  • New video finally up and it’s all about acne. By now we’re familiar with the different active ingredients in “Acne Treatments” but how we use them can make all the difference. First we need to have an understanding of the different types of acne before we can understand how to treat them. Some ingredients can be very effective on some types of acne and ineffective on others while potentially drying it out or irritating uneccesarily. Some help stop the breakout cycle while others are better for prevention and maintenance. I'm sharing with you the best ingredients for comedonal, inflammatory and hormonal acne available without prescription, what they do and how to best use them. Also, when OTC won't be enough and you need a Dermatologist to help you examine what's going on and further treatment. Ofcourse, I'm also sharing some of my favourite formulas at the moment. Hope you find this helpful, my skin squad!

If you’re suffering from body acne, I’ve had back and chest acne for years and panoxyl max strength BP cleanser and TO glycolic acid toner has treated my acne. I also wash my sheets, regularly, do not rewear clothes and don’t use fragrances in the laundry or perfume. This has all maintained preventing acne.

My special needs daughter has sensitive skin and is breaking out in tiny, closed comodones. So I use Paula’s Choice 2% BHA and The Ordinary’s Niacinamide. It works fast and beautifully. I, on the other hand, have thick skin that just won’t respond to the majority of things. So I use medical grade Truth Treatments 5% retinol and their Omega 6 balm to help keep things calm. And that works beautifully and fast for me. I also have the highest concentrations of PC for BHA, AHA, and other exfoliants, and they work, but the 5% retinol works better.

I had clear glowy skin until about 30. I’m 38 now & only within the past year realized I don’t have dry skin- I’ve been over treating or rubbing my skin & drying it out. I also don’t really have “acne”. I have closed comedones on my chin & jawline that I end up picking at. I’ve tried to stop, but when I don’t help them out, they stay there forever! Usually don’t get red but sometimes I do.
Mine is around ovulation & around menustration. Best thing I’ve done is stop eating dairy & sugar (I have cheese sometimes now & some sugar just not enough to feel the sugar rush- I was also diagnosed w insulin resistance & have apparently had it my whole life..) Taking omega supplements & probiotics really did help my skin SOOO much.

Elise ^^^ totally take care of gut health (probiotics, diet, exercise!) protect the skin barrier (don’t over cleanse, don’t use scrubs rather try chemical defoliants they are more gentle) and LASTLY if she has a healthy lifestyle a good skincare routine and nothing seems to help or get better then you can consider accutane I would not recommend it unless you know it’s a case where it’s completely necessary, my dermatologist put me on accutane at 15 without trying much before, I believe it was a rushed decision that brought me health consequences a couple years later...

For those curious about Wishtrend's sulfur treatment, here's my experience:
Rather than helping to heal / lessen the appearance of my pimples, this product would aggravate my pimple further. The spots that I treated would look angrier; redder with a larger white part than before I had put the product on, making the pimple seem larger. I've tried it a few more times to see if It was just a one time thing but it kept happening every time. Maybe the product just isn't compatible with my skin but I've never had another product do this to me.
If you still want to try it, go ahead! It might work for you :)

I’ve been lucky with CosRx AHA/BHA Clarifying treatment toner and Pyunkang Yul Nutrition cream. Idk whats in the cream but it’s helping. My breakouts and scars a lot, and I like it because it’s gentle on my sensitive skin. i also wash with CerVe Foaming facial but I’m going to try the BP one you mentioned, I think I need the extra oomph. I’m all over budget friendly and still effective products. 😉

Thank you so much for this. It’s my first time to get acne and i’m already in my late 20s so I am so confused. Gotta admit I had a hard stop from my usual skincare due to the pandemic changing my schedules and routines. However, my acne is still getting worse so I’d like to know which ingredients I should look for in skincare as a I change my routine.

Thanks Renée, this was super helpful. The last 3 months my skin congestion has increased with more open and closed comedones than usual, it’s normally manageable as I do use a retinoid at night a few times a week, alternate niacinamide & vitamin C in the AM and chemical exfoliation twice a week in my skincare practice. I picked up the Inkey List BHA serum a few months ago and use it once a week. I haven’t been sure if it’s safe or effective to use more often. I do use a BHA cleanser (CosRx Good Morning Low PH cleanser) daily. Should I use the BHA serum more often? x

Any advice on adding sulfur into the routine? I have literally the oiliest skin of anyone I’ve ever met and HUGE pores. The actives I already use are the Maelove glow maker serum in the AM and alternate the Paula’s Choice BHA and Ordinary niacinamide in the PM.

Good day! I am from the Philippines and I found this video of yours that might be a big help to my acne problem. I just wanted to know what routine should I follow if I will be able to have all of the products that you have discussed? Or if you'll going to recommend only 2 actives that can help me in my problem, what are those among the discussed products?
    Thank you.
