Zoozve is such a good name. Glad it got accepted. Just listened to the podcast episode. I believe Zoozve is mythological enough with the background story. Highly recommend listening to it. Amazing episode.
I've already named Earth's seven quasi-moons after each of the seven dwarves, it's every bit as fun and whimsical as Zoozve (which I'm glad got approved). The lesson learned from Zoozve is to pay more attention to the goings-on closer to the sun. I haven't really given much thought to Venus or Mercury, just that Russia landed a probe on Venus in the 70s and that Venus and Mercury are both too hot for even someone like me who can wear leggings in 120 degrees without roasting (although the dark side of Mercury is super cold due to lack of atmosphere) and Venus and Mercury both have a day longer than their respective year.
What a fascinating video, Chris, beautifully told. Your explanation of the evolution of the nomenclature of Zoozve with its final resolution would make a fun and informative bedtime tale for young astronomers. Many thanks
Actually, they can. Most people haven't heard of the naming campaigns such as NameExoWorlds sanctioned by the IAU to rename exoplanets to Proper Names. 55 Cancri-e for example was renamed to Janssen. UA-camrs, like Atlas Pro (or their space channel, Astro Pro) and Kyplanet made people like me more conscious to these facts and I believe more people should know about the afforementioned facts.
@@ThatOneSaltyFilipino wow, I didn't know about that. The comment was originally satire, but it sure is interesting how we can have actual names for so many interesting exoplanets!
Naming conventions have always bugged me. I half get it for planets out to Saturn as they're historical, past Saturn planets I eighth get, same solar system, and there's only a couple, sure. Major moons with themes? A bit contrived but don't let me stop you from having fun. ANY ASTEROID NEAR EARTH??? Positively ridiculous. To me, all of space deserves creative whimsey, nothing should need to be a reference. Planets are so grand, we should refer to things after planets, not refer to planets after puny human culture.
Zoosve is such a funny rock. It’s strange how we get attached to rocks out in space, and fight over their names.

We got a new venus moon before GTA 6 💀
If Zoozve ever does threaten to impact Earth, I feel like it's close enough to a Superman villain to be taken seriously.
Huh? No one will be confused by zoozve

I agree, it's a great episode of the podcast, and luckily the story has a happy ending too!

This is the most endearing story!!!
It is quite sad that Earths quasi moons aren't named. The Moon needs siblings
There is one named Cruithne, but sadly no other ones.

Thanks David, I'm glad you enjoyed. I just think it's such a fun story, and I'm glad it ends with Zoozve becoming official!
I would like to name it Quasimodo myself.
i heard the radiolab episode a while ago, i'm surprised it took this long for it to become official.

we have quasi-stars, quasi-moons, and i guess J1407b is a quasi-planet. but, when is a quasi-galaxy coming out?
