    I had the pleasure of meeting and speaking with Harold Sakata in the mid-70s when he was making a film with William Shatner called "Impulse". There was a young girl in the cast and, between takes, he would read to her, smoking that trademark pipe of his. I remember him as a warm and generous man. And that smile was real. RIP, Harold.

    Firm believer that Bond movies are popular not because of James Bond, because he's the same in every movie. They're popular because of the interesting and sometimes outrageous villains like this man and Richard Kiel

      What an interesting insight. The more I think about your comment here, the more I see the truth in what you have to say about the various James Bond movies .Thank you for sharing that.

    In 1974 I was a young disc jockey at WGNC radio in Gastonia, NC. Harold Sakata was my first interview. He came by the radio station to promote his film Impulse showing at the Diane 29 Drive In Theater. Had THE bowler hat with him. He dropped it onto the control board table and said, “This is the hat! It opens conversations!” Very nice man. He was wearing a tropical shirt, flexed his bicep and asked me to feel it. Unbelievable! Spoke very fondly and emotionally about Bruce Lee. With Oddjob was a producer who had produced some Boris Karloff pictures. Man, I wish there were Smartphones back then! Photos and video footage would be priceless.

    I love when Bond and Oddjob Fights, Sakata does the side shuffle, where he walks sideways, Something he did in his wrestling matches. I love it when someone adds something from their career into something a new hobbie.

    I just discovered your UA-cam channel. I have really enjoyed watching your videos on Richard Keel and (now on) Harold Sakata. They are beautifully written narratives, and you have a wonderful narrator's voice. It is a pleasure to watch such well-organized, informative and well-researched biographical presentations, all while listening to a soothing and knowledgeable voice.Thank you for your work. Happy New Year! ~drs (01/02/24)

    How was it a Bruce Lee film if Bruce Lee was already dead that's bolo and sammo hung who actually helped raise and train Jackie Chan as well as Sonny Chiba you could see their story on I think the movie is called painted faces it's about his life Jackie Chan's Young Life and Sonny Chiba I think Bruce Lee does make an appearance well at least his likeness because it is the Chinese Opera Company Bruce Lee's parents was apart of and he did train with them as a child himself

      Ninja Strikes Back was not a Bruce Lee movie, it was a Bruce Le movie.
      After the death of Bruce Lee many martial arts actors assumed names like Bruce Le, Bruce Li, Bruce Chen, Bruce Lai, Bruce Lie, Bruce Leung, Saro Lee, Bruce Ly, Bruce Thai, Brute Lee, Lee Bruce, Bruce Lei, Dragon Lee, ...

    Oh, one another comment: Please do not use the word "iconic" in your narratives, as it has become a very tired cliche. Thank you.

    WTF is a "Judo chop"? There's no such thing.Maybe you mean Karate.

    • @-danR
      @-danR 2 роки тому +1

      "Judo chop" is slang joke-term . See Urban Dictionary.
      Strictly speaking, classical judo included such striking moves, but they are not permitted in modern formal/competitive judo.

    • @fletchkeilman2205
      @fletchkeilman2205 9 місяців тому

      @@-danRthank you for mentioning that. I think the striking was a derivative of some ryu of jujutsu prior to Kano formulating Judo. However, certain schools of Judo eventually kept striking n the curriculum. And also, jujutsu schools took the label of "judo" academies for advertising purposes. Kodokan had atemi waza? perhaps taught in kata only if i remember correctly. but still there
