While the dreamy, guitar-driven indie pop of Beach Fossils wasn't impressing me when the band's music blew up on the blog-o-sphere several years ago, Clash The Truth is proof that some sounds just need time to develop.

Marcus Lopena The album version was poorly mixed compared to the demo that I found on Spotify.
true that, the demo is far more immersive.
If your least favourite track is Sleep Apnea and your reasoning is that it's a good song but you wish it was longer, then that's saying something about the album.

Really loved this album. Its just a feel good band that takes me to a land where running on a beach with my friends, or on an awesome road trip in the prime of my life. The album really drives forward song after song. I bought this album based on this review and haven't even listened to any of my other purchases because this is on REPEAT.
I agree. This album has a way of putting you in a roadtrip, maybe during college with some friends.

I really enjoy BF first album and their EP. Their EP is probably my favorite of their work so far!
When I first got this album it kinda disappointment me. Maybe because I was so used to that dreamy sound that you describe. CTT is not the album I automatically go to yet, but I'm easing myself into it little by little.

I guess I just miss that Vacation and Lazy Day feel. It's just so carefree and light; it's such a small sound, so personal and tight. Beach Fossils (album) is integrated into my DreamPop faves playlist. I don't know if CT-171 will clash well. It's kind of like iamamiwhoami: great effort, but so different.

Anthony. In the end dream pop, just as any other genre has good and bad music. not everyone in this genre is Mazzy Star or Cocteau Twins or Slowdive or My bloody valentine or The Church. As a fan of this style i can say it is good that you can recognize when an album of this genre is good just as you did with the latest Wild Nothing album even if you say you don´t enjoy this style

Still don't understand y u don't like sleep apnea...top 3 song on the whole project.
This is the kind of band i have been looking for all my life!That sound is exactly what I have always wanted to find!The vocals have this echoey feel to them,and the opening track reminds me abit of the smiths.The bass is very significant,and the guitar melodies are a bit jangly,but the songs are fast and fun.I am so glad you said Joy division,because them too,and that's the type of sound I've always wanted from a new band.I have to give it a 9.Great album!
Honestly, how you can differentiate this between a DIIV/Lotus Plaza is beyond me. I had high hopes for this album coming from their debut and a really great EP, but 3 drones and a track called "Sleep Apnea," this album is a real snoozer. *Goes back to listening to Ride*

Good album though.
Please review Bunny!!! I feel like it's their more personal album and I find it one of the best albums of the year so far.

I had just purchased their freshman album last week. After the first listen, I knew that this was going to be a band that I like. However, Clash the Truth isn't fully there for me. It's a departure from the sound of their first album. I still like it, especially Modern Holliday and Shallow, but when Beach came out with Bloom, a new sound to them, I didn't freak out. All the songs were really great. CT-171 is interesting, but it hasn't settled with me yet. Maybe I just need more plays.

No, I know Beach House released Bloom. I was comparing the fact that Bloom is a different sound for Beach House, but it was still eargasmic to me. I like Clash the Truth.

Thanks for reviewing this. I loved their debut but your perspective made me realize it was a bit unimaginative. I agree that this one is a nice progression. A bit more stripped down with more bite.
I would have to agree, I get really tired of all of the dream pop music in this style. But I really dig this album, especially the 2nd song on the album. The drum build ups were very nice.
If I could make a suggestion of what to review next, I would love to see you review Parenthetical Girls' "Privilege".

Saw them with Deerhoof last year during sxsw..where I met YOU!
This album was actually a disappointment to me, because they changed their sound. I miss the reverb, and the even more simple and similar sounding songs. At first i thought they did sound too similar and boring, but after listening to them enough times i noticed something special about each one and pretty much fell in love with the sound. Its different now. Dont get me wrong i still enjoy a few songs off this one, it is a more mature sound, and it probably will appeal to a larger audience.
But how does it make you feel?
he will do this because its the big album right now, i'd much rather see him do something like the new ones from: nightbeds, keaton henson, bvdub or companion. more importantly nick cave

I thought it was interesting that you didn't say anything about the lyrics in your review.
For me, the lyrics felt so weak that it took a lot away from the album.
Their sound is dreamy and layered, which I like, but those mindless lyrics ruin it for me.

I liked their debut and was gona get this until I read a review which put me off. I'm actually glad I watched this review because I decided to give this LP a chance and enjoyed it even more than the first. It certainly stands apart from similar bands releases at the moment

At first I thought: "Why does Anthony keep reviewing bands/genres he knows he doesn't like?" Should have known you reviewed this for a reason.
They're amazing! I even love Sleep Apnea it's such a gorgeous dream sequence song
I'm not quite digging this yet. I really like the music, but the vocals and lyrics just aren't doing it for me. I just don't feel like the vocal delivery matches the energy and atmosphere that the music brings and creates. This may grow on me, just not sold yet on my first couple listens.
This album is way better then the 2 first ep. Now. let see how they work these songs out live... Last time was horrible...

I think the sound has become a little bit boring, and this is a maturer album, much better than the 5.8 from Pitchfork.. But still, given the date feel of the sound etc, I'd give this more of a 7..
