In this video, We start trying to tackle this topic. I'm purely covering it so we can look at LODs but I will come back to this topic. Let me know in the replies to this comment if there's something in particular about it confusing you.
I have been learning tableau for few months and i have been applying filters during my practice but i never i knew something like these existed, i am thankful that i came across this video. once again thanks a lot for these useful videos.
The way context filters work that wouldn't change anything. All context filters compute before anything else so it doesn't matter which order they come in at because you cant do a computation in between them.
Tim. Thank you very much. You explain concepts in a very easy way to understand and enjoy learning. Quick question, where can I find the link mentioned In your videos?
Hey Tim, great video. I have a question regarding data source filter vs context filter. Which of the two will have a better performance impact on my workbook? In other words, referencing the example in the video, if I just want Alabama for my analysis, which filter should I apply for better performance? (given that I am not interested in analysing any other states in other worksheets).
Hay Tim, Thanks again for the video. My question is what is the order of operation between Sets, Conditional filters, Top N and Fixed LOD if all exists at the same time.
Best way to find out is to try it ;) also the video i mentioned does touch on lots of examples so please try to watch it. The short answer is all of those don’t do the same thing so in many ways they happen at the same time. It’s a bit like saying 2+2-2= 2 and 2-2+2=2 different order of maths same outcome as they’re happening at the same level of operation.
Noted i get mixed feedback, some people ask for for it some dont like it. Slowly working it out. I think for the more casual ones I will have it very quiet but for the tutorials like this one ill leave them out.
Thank you Tim for the video ..I always have order of operations documentation page open when I work with tableau ..as you have mentioned in video often it would come down to tableau's order of operations to achieve things ..Another important concept to master is cascading filters . Just wanted to check if you already have them as part of your list ? Thanks in advance .
Its not a function as such so not something I'm planning on recording soon. However my collegues have blog post here: www.theinformationlab.co.uk/2013/08/12/cascading-quick-filters-in-tableau-2/
Hi Krupender would you be able to add your suggestion here? tableautim.canny.io/suggestions that way we can drill into the topic a little more and you can track its progress through the content process.

Your efforts are really appreciable!!! Thanks Alot :)
Really helpful.

Do we have ranked context filters as well ? E.g First filter by state then category then sales.
