      @@RobeTrotting indeed it was I have very fond memories of the people, the pubs and your overall standard of living and happiness. Danish people can seem aloof but when you get to know them they are amazing. One thing I learnt from them was being punctual. In Ireland we aren’t that punctual but I soon learnt that it was poor manners to turn up late. 29 years since I left Denmark that punctuality has never left me and I am spot on time for anything and usually too early.

      Absolutely. Ribe is the real deal, and as someone who grew up there and now lives near Vejle, I am almost ashamed you "wasted" your time looking at that itsy-bitsy church :-D
      For a proper cathedral, medieval witch hunts and hangings, a proper river (3 actually) running through the town, really old buildings and houses, and much more, Ribe is the place to go.

    You guys have got to go see some of the churches where the murals have been restores. Most churches dating to before the reformation had murals all over the inside in bright colours and ... sometimes raunchy imagery. Unlike in most other European churches the Danish (and to an extend scandinavian churches as a whole) murals survived, they were covered in the wake of the reformation and specifically the 17th and 18th century but many were able to be restored in the 19th and 20th century.

    Vejle is such a comfortable city to visit, but it's also surrounded by some crazy beautiful nature. Catch the train going towards Herning and you'll see some very nice valleys just as you get out of town.
    I'm from Silkeborg area which also has some beautiful nature, especially if you choose to explore the lakes by canoe in summer, but I was stunned the first time I arrived to Vejle from the Herning side by train.

Not long from Jelling is Givskud that has one of the best Zoo's in denmark.

    If you are interested in VERY old Danish history, you should visit Koldinghus castel in Kolding, the city of Ribe (Denmarks oldest city) and Kongernes Jelling (a inside and outside musserum in Jelling that tells the story about the danish Viking age and how over danish monarchy is the oldest in the world because ower Queen Margrethe II can track her lineage back to some of the Viking kings.
    They are alle in Jylland and are all dated back since before Columbus discovered America so older then the oldest written America history (except for the native American's history of course) 😊
    Once we took an Australien to Koldinghus and she found i mind blowing to stand in a building older than her entier contryes written history, so maby you would have that same mind blowing experience 😊👍🏻

      We actually started a series to examine why and how Denmark has existed and thrived over the centuries despite setbacks and obvious advantages that some other nations have. For the first video we went to Jelling and talked about the ingenuity and adaptive qualities of Gorm and Harald and what their legacies mean to Denmark as a country. Your Danish wasn't bad enough to warrant a warning guys 😂🤣😂
    Be proud that you are learning and practicing, and that you have the bravery to use it even though it won't come out perfectly. Danish is HARD if you haven't grown up with it, and the pronunciation isn't exactly intuitive or natural sounding if you are not used to æ, ø and å etc. So yeah... be kind to yourselves!
    Also, thanks for showing the beauty of Vejle. I have never visited myself, but it looks gorgeous and the history of the town was fascinating! I am glad you are doing towns like this, and I definitely recommend you visit Aalborg where I used to live while studying at the University there. It is a gorgeous city with a lot to see, and I would love to see the kind of history you might be able to find as it is such a major city. Odense, the town of Hans Christian Andersen, would probably be really interesting for you as well!

    Northern Jutland (where I'm from) has a number of wonderful examples;
    - Den tilsandede kirke (The sanded church, Skagen)
    - Børglum Kloster (Børglum Monastery, Wonderful place - highly recommended)
    - Vitskøl Kloster (Vitskøl Monastery)
    - Gråbrødrekloster (Gray-brother monastery, which was found by accident when digging out for a new building site in Aalborg)
    - Budolfi Kirke (Budolfi Church, Aalborg - which has a monastery attached next to it. You can get a guided tour of the crypts and the wonderful frescos)
    - Lodbjerg Kirke (Lodbjerg Church, Thy - which is one of two smallest churches in Denmark)

    This was actually a surpricingly good video, you relly did some research. Your visit here must have been very recently, as "Rådhustorvet" in front of the old city hall have just been renovated to this looks, there used to be steps, where those statues originally were placed. Next time you are here, take a trip to Skyttehuset and the Northerm Forrest. Nature is one of the things, that makes Vejle beautiful. Unfortunately a lot of old buildings in the center have been demolished since the 1970's, which means loss of a lot of history.

      @@RobeTrotting Yeah, that wouldn’t be fair since she’s still a ‘young’ 😏 whippersnapper. Maybe she could be the referee, and have her ask a Danish friend to help out and give out the points?

    That wasn't that "bad danish" you didn't slaughter the words, I mean I could understand it..🙂👍

      Thanks Tim! We definitely won’t stop trying. I think when we use English but insert one Danish word the pronunciation sounds bad, but when we try to actually speak in Danish sentences it’s a little better 🙏 🇩🇰

  • @kinagrill
    @kinagrill 3 роки тому

    All I can say about the 'bad danish' is more that english is more flowey in the words. Danish contains a lot of 'half-stops' so to speak in a word. like Dannebrog. Danne Brog. I think if 'American' was a danish word, it's be Ameri Can. Cuz we do have a tendency to have that half-waythrough re-adding of pressure to a lot of words more than 4 or so letters.
    so if you think you might be a bit 'heavy' on the word, you might just barely be giving it enough 'pressure', so to speak.

    What you also should have done was to rent a Bicycle and drive West trough Vejle Ådal (Vejle River Wally) towards Bindeballe and Vandel, then you would have seen the true "alps" of Denmark.
