Alan/Zach, since episode 2 is on tonight… we are so lucky to have Tomlin. Watching most (not all) coaches do the pre game pressers is sometimes painful. His brevity, one word answers, Tomlinisms, how he keeps team business in house, and just his ability to command the room is unique. His recognition of certain players, Mr….., and his choice NOT to name or name certain players, everything is intentional. Respect.💛🖤
Wow! Those Russell Wilson stats are bonkers! This is turning out to be a wild season. I'm doing my best to temper expectations and just enjoy the ride. SMR is so much fun and I don't have to set aside time for it. It's part of my morning routine. Thank you so very much, Alan!
Spot on and thanks for the historical perspective. Wilson has a really good team and coaches around him now. Wilson is the real deal, enjoy this while it lasts.
Sure glad we had Justin in there while the OL was getting their footing. Lots of credit to Fields and Russ for the 10-3 record. But only a handful of NFL QB's can read a defense like Russ and even fewer can throw a deep ball as friendly for WR's.
Russ is a perfect no drama-high effort fit for Tomlin and our Smith offense. With some playoff success and two more seasons of stats Russ is a first ballot HOF nominee. Bradshaw might be the best comp for the type of pass and style of play we have with Wilson. Just watched some Terry highlights and see that same accurate high arc moonball dropped right into the receivers hands forty yards downfield.
Every week I definitely tune in to see what Arthur, Russell and Mike is cooking up. Sometimes it's explosive sometimes it can be vanilla but I think when they lean into using pat and Najee whatever that looks like they're going to be the biggest difference makers for yards after the catch. I mean Mike Williams catching slants has to be deadly. And the way we've been getting Calvin Austin the ball on deep passes we got to explore that more when the defense is not expecting it
I'm just curious, where is this "Russ is turning back the time" is coming from? I've been hearing this for past 2weeks. It's being spoken about like Russ has been out of the game for a full season or more. He's never lost it. Not his speed, or his arm. Let's not forget....he's wasn't benched for bad QB play in Denver. He was benched over his injury clause in his contract. He's just playing with a team who has a coach he trust, has a great relationship with and a locker room of players that believe in him. I think he's in a mentally comforting situation. Denver had Russ playing hero ball. They wanted him to be their savior. They haven't been relevant since Payton retired. Lastly....Sean didn't like him from the beginning. Even when he won.
Russ has been statistically better than Roethlisberger. Roethlisberger was a turnover machine 2:1 interception ratio and Wilson has been really good at protecting the ball with a 4:1 ratio. Comparing career numbers Russ is still much better statistically.
The Steelers' running game is not in bad shape. It ain't dominant, but then, who is running the ball in a dominant fashion? It's old-school, it's good and with a decent passing attack, it wins games. Everybody talks about Russel Wilsons' "moon balls", but the short passing game ain't doing badly, either. Play action, short passing game, decent running game, then let a moon ball loose, every now and again. Seems like that's what is working for them, so do more of it. Of course, the defense has to keep-up the high-level of play that, for the most part, is working for them.
Russ will give the Steelers a team friendly deal. He got his bag twice already and he's not greedy. He is about his legacy, not the money. Plus Ciara brings in some nice change, too. Lol
Stop pocket watching using your own logic to assess someone else's financial goals or whatever his wife makes or what YOU think is good enough for HIM & his family 😒 yall KILL ME with that smh
Steelers scheme is meant for the quarterback to be on the bus not drive it, so when you take all that responsibility from Russell he’s going to do much better and plus Denver didn’t have a running game and they had an very inconsistent defense.
I think the scheme will evolve as Russ gets more comfortable in the system and Smith trusts him more and more. Its been a decade since we have had a quarterback we could trust.
PREMISS- I 100% comprehend the Ire exhibited by "Steelers Nation" toward Mr. Neil O'Donnell. That SB changed his entire life... It saddens me to hear Alan Saunders calling O'Donnell "Dead league average".. One solitary hour on pro football reference compairing/contrasting his career #'s versus Aikman...Should enlighten the average NFL afficianado. AFTER dilligent analytics. If still calling O'Donnell "dead league average"... then title ALSO will apply to Troy Aikman... Just for starters Neil v Troy.... TD/Int..#'s thru careers: #165/141 Versus #120/68 Hmmm... Probably guess wrong as to who's who
It’s about relationships Alan. Payton is an egomaniac with an inflated reputation even though he is a solid head coach that specializes in offense. He is kind of a scumbag though and didn’t want Russ from the start which clearly brings forth the question of how much he actually wanted to coach to his strengths.
I’m sorry I couldn’t listen to the rest of your pod when you said you wondered why Sean Payton couldn’t get this out of Russ are you aware of what Russ did last year? or are you just using the usual talking points from Sean Payton? Russ scored through 26 touchdowns and only eight interceptions in a crooked corrupted shortened season because of Sean Pay, he won six straight games with a terrible defense. He was in the top five categories, in most of the quarterback categories so what are you saying when you say he couldn’t get this out of Russ? Russ had a better year than any Steeler has in the last 10 years. This is what Russ was doing . Instead of just doing the usual hate on Russ let’s look at the numbers and tell the truth that russ did very well last year, and the reason he got out of Seattle was because they didn’t wanna pay him please no more revisionist history

Here We Go Steelers 🚀🚀🚀

Amazes me still, that two months ago there were a majority of people, both fan and media who were arguing not to go to Russ over Justin.
They don't know ball

Thank you for always speaking 🔊 facts only
Allen Love the show...just stop giving me PTSD by naming Neil O Donald 🤣

He played well last year .and he's playing well this year.no drop off.hes still got a couple years of quality ball left

who is the star or key peace to the offensive. Russ should get paid.. Denver? the coaches where not good and they hated him... He will be in demand..
