    ℹ️ IN THIS EPISODE: We destroy the two most common inline water filters to see how they work. We have used the blue camco water filter for over two years (Replacing it every few months), but when we met clear2O at the Tampa show, they convinced us that their in line water filter was better. We asked for a sample, which they agreed to and then we cut it open to see the difference. First though, we need to understand what a micron is. So, join in on our quiz / test to see how many microns certain things are. Sperm, fertilized, lead, aluminum / aluminium. We reveal all!

    Good information on these products. It led me to research at what level the public water treatment plants filter the water. EPA standards set filtration requirements at 0.2 microns. So both water filters are more than sufficient and you probably do not need one at all. But I will continue to use one wherever we camp. Thanks again for this hard hitting analysis and help from your able assistant.😎

    • @BrazenBrits
      @BrazenBrits  3 роки тому

      That's great information to know! Thanks Tom. However, I can confirm that there was visibly some nasty stuff in the Camco filter that we have used for about 4 months now. I do worry about the stuff we can't see. Even without a filter, I'm sure none of this would be really harmful, but its great peace of mind to have it there. We have heard some horror stories. Most of them from campsites with old plumbing and well water.

    Id be curious how that stacks up against the filter system we built. I use a blue camco filter at the outlet and have a housing with a 5 micron and 1 micron 'whole house' filter positioned just before it enters the rig. At somepoint, I am going to compare the filtering our RV water system does against what our house soft water/reverse osmosis system.

    We will continue to use camco with their sediment filter (20micron). If if it hanging properly it should go through more carbon and catch more particles. The other one seems to shoot water to the bottom of the filter and not much passes thru carbon. 1 micron can restrict water pressure also. It will depend on pressure at the individual rv sites. We have used 5 /20 ,micron pleated filter at the house, and there seems to a big difference in pressure. But a great video. Wonder what the foam does at each end? Maybe a type of sediment filter.

    Nice trivia about sizes of...um...stuff 😵 I work in medical imaging and I'm used to the micron term. Digital imaging (as well as digital photography) measures pixel size in microns and a detector element (in my world) represents a pixel. Each detector element has its own electronics which, depending on the purpose of the detector, could be 140 microns or smaller. In any case, pixels or mold, the dimensions are very small. Interesting!

    • @BrazenBrits
      @BrazenBrits  3 роки тому

    As a double filter system I added the Camco Blue to my Boogie Brew garden filter for my garden and bird baths. Within less than 2wks the birds stopped drinking and bathing in the water, seriously during this extreme heat dome of '24 they won't drink it is quite shocking. When I removed the Amazon bought Camco and used the stand alone Boogie Brew they went back to drinking and bathing again. I'm not promoting Boogie Brew I'm just saying that the Camco must be a pretty bad tasting etc if the birds and critters won't have anything to do with it. It was my first time buying Camco and it's really quite sad that the Made In USA label showing makes unsuspecting ppl think it's a great product and it's probably the worst on the market to use. I have 6 birdbaths and as I look out the window right now in this heatwave, all my birds are back and appreciating a good drink again. I'll have to try the Clear20. The birds will probably think they're at a spa sipping chardonnay water. Thank you for sharing and wanted to do in kind.

    With that dirt guard part, do you think that will expand the life of the canister filter part?

    • @BrazenBrits
      @BrazenBrits  Рік тому

      Hi Tracy, after a year of use, it sure does. The canister part is 20 microns, which filters the same as the typical blue ones you can buy from anywhere. However, the green canister one blocks up very quick, which has been frustrating as after time it reduces water flow. It’s great as it’s filtering out the bad stuff, but bad because it blocks much quicker than the blue ones

      Hi Alexander. We really like the bulky attachment, but the actually carbon filter is a pain when it clogs. We’ve found that RV parks with high iron, clog it very quickly.

    What about water pressure with the 1 micron?

    • @BrazenBrits
      @BrazenBrits  2 роки тому +1

      Interesting one this…..when the park pressure is bad, the 1 micron really makes it a lot worse. But when the park pressure is good, we don’t notice. We did have an issue with a park with high iron that clogged the filter in a week. That was annoying. It did it’s job, but had to replace the filter.

    DO NOT switch to Clear 2O. Especially the Dirt Guard. I have purchased 2. In BOTH the lids just cracked and flooded water everywhere. After it happened to the first one, I thought perhaps I had done something like drop it. Nope the second one just exploded after only 60 days. As for the 1 micron filters. I have used those for 2 years. Suddenly my last 3 have only lasted 15 to 30 days before they completely clog. Different areas of the country and in all cases just city water. The dirt guard is approx $45 and the filters are approx $35. That's $80. Plus the Clear 2O cuts the water flow to under 2 GPM.

      We have had issues with the 1 micron filters clogging up at certain parks and it is frustrating when they are expensive to replace. We love the DirtGuard though. We have had no issues with it at all.

    The problem that isn't mentioned purposely is that rv parks/campgrounds have low water pressure. The blue camco filter allows enough water pressure to shower and use the faucets. The green filter reduces the water pressure so low that it cuts water flow down to a trickle. On a residential water supply with 80+ lbs of pressure the green filter would work ok at best but if you are in a rv park with 40-45lbs of water pressure you will be upset you just wasted your $$$ on the green filter. The comments on here are very misleading, don't waste your money. If nothing else buy a whole house filter housing and a 5 micron carbon filter and you will still have water pressure. 1 micron chokes water pressure down to a unusual amount

    • @BrazenBrits
      @BrazenBrits  Рік тому

      Hi John, we used this filter for a couple of months and it was fine. However, we went to a campsite that was extremely high in iron. Within 2 days, it was clogged. So we agree with you in a way. We do now carry the standard blue filters in case the green one clogs and like you said, we are looking into a whole house system that I have been recommended before. Still researching these, but hope to make a video when we decide on the best one for us.
