      I think it started from Aemond not wanting to ever feel helpless again, like when he lost his eye. So he turned to the strongest person he knew, Cole to train him, and that started their bond. The bond between a squire and his knight is a lifelong bond that's almost stronger than the bonds of brotherhood.

    And I liked how the whole scenario unfolded regarding Blood and Cheese - how "haphazard" the whole thing was, with Cheese getting panicky and Blood just deciding he would settle for any Targaryen son, just to get out of there. The lack of security may have been a reflection of the fact that these rooms are the family's inner sanctum, this is where they live, there are so many guards, etc OUTSIDE this area to keep it safe and private - Blood and Cheese penetrated this area in a secret way no one was aware of. And the whole thing came off as half-assed, not planned at all, which makes sense to me. It was Daemon's way of getting vengeance, a son for a son...but if he really wanted to get AEMOND, for Rhaenyra, it was a lousy plan! Just sneak in to the Red Keep and hope you can find Aemond and knock him off before the every guard in the place is on you? Either Daemon was not thinking clearly (possible) or he rather viciously didn't care who got hurt...or perhaps he mentioned that Aegon's son would be a fine substitute...?

    I agree it was disappointing, personally Blood and Cheese save a rather boring episode for me. But I also recall that GRRM explained Fire & Blood as a historical account by maesters with biases, corrupted accounts, and rumors. Documented history is actually not reliable a source in Westeros, because accounts are mostly hearsay and speculations. It’s also apparent that the Maester that wrote Blood & Fire has a bias against Rhaenyra. Like we can notice the Greens are given a reasonable portrayal at best and the Blacks as bloodthirsty of violent folks. I think this was GRRM and writers hinting at the biases against Rhaenyra for being a woman, and the first true Queen of Westeros which they barely want to acknowledge. So as was explained the books have a distorted narrative of history and the show more realistic. That instead of dealing with brilliant schemes and characters with full agency, they find themselves in un calculated and random circumstances that lead to instinctive and not well thought out decisions that then have consequences. History remembers it one way, reality was less glorious and well human, more messy and driven by fell upon circumstances and mistakes. Like how we saw Aemond killing Lucerys by not being in control of Vhagar. History says he killed Lucerys out of vengeance and purposefully, really he just wasn’t in control of the situation and learned the hard way that dragons are forces of nature

    The only thing I really needed from Blood and Cheese was the choice which they removed by removing Maelor. literally all they needed to do was have a baby in a crib there and have Helaena point to him. I didn't even need Alicent there or Helaena screaming. Just add the baby. I think there being no guards at all, particularly no kingsguard covering Helaena and the royal children was rediculous.
    Rhaenys interaction with Daemon was by far the best part. It's funny how Daemon is so reliant on intimidation to get his way and Rhaenys was having none of it and put him in his place with one line

And i have come to believe that the fact they made heleana a dreamer on the show means she had already seen her child/children die (knew that if she screamed or tried to save both she would fail) something to that effect

    I think regarding blood and cheese we have to first realice that helaena in the books is "sane", the icon of good queen and motherhood, and in the series we see she's a dreamer (the maesters in the books probably wanted her to look better than what she actually was, to look "normal") so when the event came to happen she didn't know if it was a dream or the reality, and even if it was a dream she knew there was no way of stoping it because she already saw it. Even when she walks down the stairs we can see she feels when her son head is ripped of and probable realices that this is real and not a dream. We need to remember that helaena lives in a world where she can't distinguish what's real and what's not, she is the embodiment of Cassandra in all aspect which is why her story is so sad 😢

    I work a lot with trauma, and I would say Helena's response to that horror is more realistic than what is presented in the book, which was probably "the maesters's" dramatizing of events. I also think it is beyond psychopathic to make a parent complicit in their child's murder, and I felt that this scene was as dark as it can possibly be without being cartoonist.

    Heleana has been depicted in HotD as definitely "off" emotionally; rather removed in some sense, disassociated. That she has the Targaryen trait to see the future, and often imperfectly, is plain; and this ability has affected the mental stability of many members of her family with the gift, as book readers know. (Of course many Targaryens are not particularly stable anyway, as we see in Alicent's kids and in spades in Daemon...and, I think it will become more apparent, in Rhaenyra.) Anyway I think they are staying true to her characterization so far in the way she handled (or didn't handle) her son's murder. Terrified, rescuing her daughter, yet strangely removed; she doesn't say "They killed my son," she says, "they killed the boy." I found it a really interesting choice, as opposed to the bloody screaming and hysterics I admit I was expecting too.

    I was very disappointed with House of the Dragon Season 2, Episode 1. Although there were around half a dozen or so things that I absolutely loved, and I'd even go as far as to say were improvements.
    I was a bit annoyed that Cregan said that the events of Silverwing not flying over the wall happening during the era of his father, whereas in the books this happening under the watch of his great-great-grandfather.
    No Sara Snow, thus no Pact Of Ice & Fire, literally one of the most important plotlines in the entire lore. Also, no confirmation on whether Vermanx laid a dragon's egg in the Winterfell crypts or not. Whilst this is only loosely speculated in the books, having it confirmed in the show would be a very easy way of setting up a post-GOT Season 8 TV show, which surely must be the premise of all these spin-offs. Jace in The Vale and The North is literally an entire season's worth of story, all crammed into 10 minutes. Literally worse than anything from GOT Season 7 and 8 rushing through events. I guess they can refer back to the events through dialogue, or have Jace revisit The North.
    If they're going to keep HOTD as an anthology show, and continue to tell the story past The Dance and through The Regency, they're going to need to establish a strong plot in The North, in order to keep the audience engaged, as I don't think the life and times of Aegon III is enough to keep non-book readers engaged.
    Ok, so Blood & Cheese - This was SO MUCH better in the books. What we got on TV was like "Blood & Cheese Light".
    Omitting Maelor Targaryen ruined all of the second son symbolism, jeopardises the entire Bitterbridge plot, and utterly dampens the impact of what happens to Jaehaerys. Also, whilst I appreciate that the showrunners have limited time, but more really could have been done to endear the audience to Jaehaerys over Season 1.
    Having a genuine emotional connection to the character would have made what happened to him so much more impactful.
    All in all, I'd rate this episode 6.5/10, which is one of the lowest for me personally.
    Still, there was A LOT that I absolutely adored about the episode and I'm going into the next episode excited and with an open mind, even though I feel like they missed an open goal for something extremely special here.
    I swear down, if they change the scene with Stormcloud escaping The Triarchy in The Gullet.....

    I think Helaena is portrayed differently in the Show because season 1 depicts her as being autistic hence the absence of the book-scream. Recall from S1 she didnt scream when Daemon beheaded Vaemond but reacted quietly.
    Re Blood & Cheese, it seems that to provide an unpredictable element to the Show, changes made to what Book readers THINK we know. Also there's the element of the book being told from 3 different perspectives so we wont always get what we THINK happened. We saw that alot in S1. Eg Daemon didnt actually take Rhae's maidenhead, he didn't kill Leanor, Vhagar alone caused Luke's death (baffled by this because S1 ends with Aemond looking sorry but no single hint of that in Epi1 of S2 so far, he almost seems undisturbed).

    Personally, i felt a little disappointed by the episode. The pacing was very slow and the big shocking murder in the end was far too drawn out that it diminished its impact. They spent way far too much screen time showing every step of Blood and Cheese’s infiltration of the Red Keep and Meagor’s Holdfast. Worse, cutting Maelor from the episode diminished the anguish Helenea was supposed to experience as a mother being forced to pick which of her children would die. This event is supposed to traumatize her to the point of insanity, but her reaction of just picking up her daughter and running to her mom’s room and quietly announcing they killed her son was a bit too muted and flat of a reaction. You could argue that the show hinted throughout the episode that she’s a dreamer and already knew it was coming, but her reaction as a parent to them murdering her son was still WAY too flat of a reaction.

    It’s so realistic that a ratcatcher and a butcher are equal to a faceless man, trick a whole castle of guards and Kingsguard and move undetected, not even kill their target but also psychologically destroy the queen and Dragonrider Helaena so she is taken out for the whole war 🤦🏻 and one only gets caught on his way out.
    Yeah, one might suspect that this version is Green‘s friendly propaganda written down later to picture the Blacks far more sinister, cruel and absent of any morality that they actually were!
    The faceless men are lucky, that there aren‘t that many free men in the Free Cities that do work as butchers and ratcatchers or they were not needed anymore 😂

    I know a lot of people think Alyn and Addam are Corlys' bastards, but it truly wouldn't make sense if they are his because he does not have the Blood of the Dragon and Addam becomes a dragon rider, meaning his dragon blood is probably from a few generations back.

    • @CivilizationEx
      @CivilizationEx  8 днів тому

      Corlys is a Velaryon, they are descendants of Old Valyria just like the Targaryens. Plus his ancestors have been mixing with Targaryens for over 200 years by that point.

      @@CivilizationEx that could be so! I may be misremembering, but I always thought they weren’t “close” enough in Dragonblood to bond, which is what lef them to being a naval house all the way back in Valyria, but now I’m wondering if it is true they just never really had the access to “tame” a dragon

    • @CivilizationEx
      @CivilizationEx  8 днів тому

      As I recall the Velaryons didn't have dragons because they were not a noble house of Old Valyria, they were a smaller lesser house. So I imagine they, like the Celtigars, were not powerful enough to have dragons at the time. The Targaryens had dragons because they were a Ruling Noble Family. A minor one, but one of 40 families who ruled the entire Freehold. So when they moved to Dragonstone, the Velaryons attached themselves to a more powerful house.

    Maybe the worst… worse than the step stones in terms of disappointment. I have zero fantastical praise for this show when comparing it to game of thrones. If “they had to tone it down” for TV in order to do this then don’t do, simple as that really. They are ruining what the true fans are wanting to watch. Settling for mediocre content has a bad history….

    They could've had blood launch his sword in the air and before the strike pan to alicent face and she screams from there as blood and cheese rans away but I guess it would be too brutal.

  • @nApucco
    @nApucco 8 днів тому +4

    While I understand the disappointment of some people, I don't agree with it.
    The book version works for the book, but would have been too complex for TV. They simplified the story to its essence, with the characters the audience already knows (i.e. only 2 children) and came to the same shocking conclusion. Since it is a audiovisual medium, they gets away with a short but intense moment when you HEAR them cut off the head. No need for screaming or a drawn out mental torture of mother or little brother. Just a silent, breathing/gasping mother in shock trying to get away to safety.
    I belief this is a perfect example of the book is the book, the series is the series, and it is ok that each did it differently for each medium. It actually shows the care the producers put into it, knowing what is important and what works.
    But of course, if you go into the episode expecting exactly the same big scene from the book, you might are primed for disappointment. Sry to hear. Hope it doesn't take away too much of your enjoyment in future episodes.

    The Blood and Cheese incident HAD to be toned down for TV.
    It was multiple physical assaults against women one being murdered in the process the mental torture of the other two. A SA threats of a young female child. All cspped off with a child beheaded. That is WAY too brutal for even paid TV

    Why would you think they might cut Hugh the Hammer when there are already pictures/a trailer of exactly that smith from Kings landing sitting on a table with Rhaenyra and the other Dragonseeds… is this misleading in sake of stirring anger of the fans to generate more clicks?!?
    I despise all this online fear mongering ‚they might cut…‘ (add Addam, Alyn, Hugh, Ulf, Nettles, Daeron, Maelor) when we have conformation, they at least confirmed 5 of the mentioned 7 already!
    I mean come on, they even did several Grand Maesters in season 1 when casting 1 for the complete show would have been enough! They even casted all the minor lords that play no major role or could have written out or their later impact could have given to some other character like in GoT (Lords Caswell, Celtigar and Fell just to mention a few)
    If I ever trusted a writing and production team with the adaptation of a book/franchise… it’s definitely this team with its love and dedication to the source material! Do they some things ‚wrong‘? Yes, they are humans for god sake… but 98.5% is spot on
