- Main gear box replacements don't come up often and when they do, it is no quick job especially on an F model.
It has been over four years since the last MGB change in Manitoba with -17°F (-27°C) temperatures. This past week, the crew and I had a chance to assist with one in Isernia, Italy on I-CFAG. The weather conditions were much more favorable than in Canada. Due to the complexity of this component change, parts that included removal were the 6 each main rotor blades, beanie fairing, hydraulic accumulator for dampers, disconnection of lower pitch control links, rotating scissors, station scissor, main rotor head, swashplate assembly with primary servos, hydraulic 1st stage, 2nd stage, auxiliary, oil cooler, utility pumps, tachometer generator, #1 and #2 generators, rotor brake caliper and disc, retaining nut/pressure plate/thrust washer, lock bolts, split cones, barrel nuts and associated wiring harness and clamps. This made for a several day marathon of maintenance. It was enjoyable however working with a great crew and Italy's institutional agency for fire and rescue services, Vigili del Fuoco. Thanks to all the support from S.I.M.A, S.p.A, Erickson Inc., Overhaul Department, European Air-Crane S.p.A, and Carletto, our crane truck operator. The job would not have been possible without everyone involved.

@@mehdi9933 I work in the maintenance department and unable to answer this question. You must have rotorcraft licence, twin engine experience and at least 200 hours is what I recall for second in command.
