- Short stories are great for practicing English listening and speaking. Now, listen to this story and you will improve your English speaking with the listen-and-answer method. You can download our audio short stories here 👉 www.power-english.net/real-en...
In this story, we are focusing on the Present Perfect Tense. So you can imagine that the story is happening right now, and there are past events that matter to the present.
After you listen to the story you will hear many questions. Try to answer these easy questions out loud. If you can’t say the answers, be relaxed and just listen. Repeat the lessons every day for one week. You will get better and better each time you listen to the story and finally, you will speak English like a native.
The present perfect tense is used to talk about an event that has already happened. In the present perfect tense, the speaker is talking about the past, but they are still talking about the event as if it is happening right now.
To use the present perfect tense, you need to know the past simple tense. The past simple tense is the same as the regular past tense, but it is used to talk about an event that happened one time. To use the past simple tense, you need to know the past tense.

Hi, the content you making is really helpful, thanks. But I am confused why using the present simple in these sentences: "Peter runs to his car."; "He stands up straight."; "He opens the door."; "He picks up the cake box." Did I forgot something? Should not we be using the present continuous if we talk about things happening right now? Like this: "Peter is running to his car."; "He is standing up straight." "He is picking up the cake box." I would appreciate it if you could answer.
Thank you for your thoughtful comment! In the video, we used the present simple tense for those sentences to describe actions that are part of the story and have a sense of immediacy, even though they're not necessarily happening right at this very moment. Both present simple and present continuous can be used to convey different nuances in storytelling. We chose the present simple to maintain clarity and simplicity in the narrative. It's a common narrative technique to describe actions as if they are happening in the present moment, even if they're not. Both options are valid, but in this case, we opted for the present simple tense for a straightforward and engaging storytelling experience.
