Believe it or not - I`ve been studying English from 1-st grade and somehow managed to get through all the tests/exams and never truly figuring out what are the differences between these two tenses. I know this is ridiculous, but this is true. I`m immensely grateful to you for parsing out the minutiae and taking the time to explain it. I have to be honest, I feel confused a bit, since I basically have to forget all the info that I have learned through the years and learn these simple things de novo. Again, big thanks for your work!
Are you a native English speaker? I speak Portuguese, and I'm learning English 😊
@@emilymartins618 I'm Ukrainian native, good luck with your studying!
De novo ?? What's that buddy? lol

Hello, our lovely teacher Mrs. Rebecca, after my time period ın the school, 1970-1972, I have already begun to learn English again before a year in May/2021. You have given me the courage to learn English again. Therefore I love you very much, Before I met you on the internet I haven't had any hope to learn English again. now I am 66 years old, and fortunately, I can learn English from different English teachers on the internet. Wow! I enjoyed this lesson, and it has lessened my writing insecurity. This past simple and present simple has been a headache when I write. Thank you for making this easier for all these people who maybe have been struggling with it. For example, when did you get this job, and how long have you had this job are the perfect examples.
I clearly understand now
Thank you...you are such a splendid teacher who I've ever seen💜
She is the best! Now after many years of experience with all kinds of teachers, I finally got it!

Thank you my dear teacher ❤️ in English . I'm glad to hear your melodious voice again.

Brilliant! Absolutely brilliant! My first language is Russian and the language has only three times: past, present and future. So, these subtleties are SO IMPORTANT to know!

Thank you so much, you're a great teacher. Your explanation is very clear. I did the test, and I had 10/10 but I couldn't write my comment there. I love your classes
Hi everyone,
i always struggle with these tenses. I know exactly how they are built.
However i face quite some problems using them especially in speaking. But this lesson helped me utterly.
I think the general take away for everyone who has the problems that i have should be:
Past Simple -> focus past,
Present Perfect -> focus now, What are the consequnces of this action?
I hope i undestand it correctly.
For example:
A:Have you watched the video?
B:Yes, i have.
A:What do you think about this lesson? Did you learn something interesting?
(So, i assume that. Someone have seen the video that means they are well versed with video. I can ask what they think about it. )
Am i right? Can anyone confirm it?
I wish you all the best in learning English.
Have a super sparkly day.
Thanks a lot, that was a really good review of those two tenses 😊
You have described the difference between past simple and present perfect tense very clearly. Thanks
wow, it's amazing, I understand why you have the two(three?) past relating expression for the first time. Someone told me your flight had gone to me. I notice now she wanted to tell me I did not have at that time. There were a difference. Thank you.
Could you teach preposition (to, of, for, from)
I have a lesson about prepositions on my channel. Please take a look.
I can understand everything when she's explaining the tenses!
Thanks a lot Rebecca, I have lived in London for four years and now I understood how to used the present perfect!!!!
You are the best teacher I've ever found. Thank you so muchhhh. Please keep uploading videos!!
When I was young I learned English but I have forgotten and now I’m training to learn again
good luck! internet makes learning languages so easy :)
Today at class we correct the quiz of past simple and present perfect and it was one sentence that i must put the correct tense in :
Since I (came) here, I (study) in this school.
I put both of the verbs in present perfect cause they're two actions unfinished and we have the key since.
But the teacher tell us that the first verb must be in past simple , I'm confused now which is correct and why?
Thank you for the explanation.
Well, you came in the past, and it's a finished action, but you are still studying in this school, this is why study should be in present perfect.(as far as I understood)
You are amazing! Thank you so much! I have understood everything you explain. Wish your channel will find a lot of people who need a teacher like you Rebecca 🌹
Today is 5 Sept ,we celebrate teacher's day in India on every 5 September , so happy teacher's day . 🙏🙏.. the way of explanation is unmatchable , thanks mam's

PRESENT PERFECT
You taught me how to be alone
And I have learned my lessonin your absence
PAST SIMPLE
I cried when you left me
But I laughed when I saw what you left me for
First sentence is already grammatically incorrect
You have taught me not you taught
You taught me -- simple past You have taught me -- present perfect
I learned/learnt -- simple past I have learned/learnt -- present perfect
He saw me -- simple past He has seen me -- present perfect
I ate rice -- simple past I have eaten rice -- present perfect
