Many officials and climate activists claim we have only 12 years to act on global warming. Where does this figure come from? A 2018 Special Report by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). The second sentence of that document reads, "Global warming is likely to reach 1.5 degrees C between 2030 and 2052 if it continues to increase at the current rate." The 12-year figure comes from subtracting the year of the report, 2018, from the earliest possible date of 1.5 degrees C warming, 2030.
The problem is that this was a statement about the past, dressed up to suggest that it's about the future. It's not about what will happen; it's extrapolating from what has already happened. Actual temperatures in 2030 will depend on whether warming speeds up or slows down, and also on whether the year is warmer or colder than the long-term trend.
Why the 22-year range? The authors of the IPCC report defined the current rate using data from 1960 to 2017. Using the NASA Goddard Institute for Space Studies (GISS) land-ocean temperature series that underpins most popular reporting about warming, global excess temperatures were 0 in January 1960 and 0.94 degrees C in December 2017. So the Earth has to warm another 0.56 degrees C to reach 1.5 degrees C. Some fifth-grade math tells us that should happen in 34.55 years if warming continues at the same rate. We'd hit 1.5 degrees C on July 21, 2051. Different measurements might give a couple of years either way, but not 22 years.
The range of 2030 to 2052 is not about how warm the earth is but who's responsible for the change in temperature. The figures reflect "anthropogenic warming," or warming rooted in human activity. By citing a range of 2030 to 2052, the authors are indicating a high level of uncertainty. They're not sure how much of the 0.17 degrees C per decade warming is "anthropogenic," or rooted in human activity. They think it's possible that humans are warming the Earth 0.3 degrees C and some unknown factor is actually cooling the Earth 0.13 degrees C. (The IPCC declined to make any of the report's authors available for an interview).
If you think the problem with global warming is hotter temperatures (melting ice, rising sea levels, and other physical effects), then you should care about the year 2052, not 2030. But if you think the problem with global warming is that humans are tampering with something pristine-and you only consider the worst possible scenario-then 2030 is your date. Focusing on anthropogenic warming suggests that what's happening in the real world matters less than who's at fault.

There was a recent scientific historical study that concluded that 600 years ago, the earth's average temperature was around 9 degrees warmer than now. I am amazed that people survived!
There are two items that really puzzle me: (1) Why does everyone (outside the climatologists area) just take it for granted that it is human originated CO2, the culprit?... (2) Why do so many, seemingly educated persons, just accept that «warmer global climate = more drought and more violent storms...»?... When it's just the other way round...
Warm air can absorb more water than cold air, so rain ( the point where too much water is in the air) happens less frequently in arid(dry) regions and more frequently in humid(wet) regions.
And we take it for granted because we know that coal releases CO2 and in the last 200 years there was more coal burned than ever.
Something quite interesting btw:
Ice from the Arctic has tiny air bubbles inside, so you can be able to analyze the composition from air that's thousands of years old.
If you put it on a graph where the x-axis is the year and the y-axis is the amount of CO2, you are able to see an increase in the high time of Greece and in the time of the Roman Empire.
And do you have any evidence to support your claim regarding the storms? Because I couldn't find anything about that.
For point 1, of all the possible causes of Climate Change, only one can be attributed to something that humans have done. All the rest, such as Milankovitch Cycles, changing solar activity, cosmic radiation, changes in Earth's molten core and so on, cannot have a human cause and for which mankind cannot be blamed. Some less charitable than myself would add that Governments wishing to further control the populace by Fear, Uncertainty and Doubt, therefore only had one candidate for Climate Change, that of CO2.

This is what I know. I am 44 years old and have been told "we have 12 years left" for various reasons for my entire life.
In early grade school in the mid 80s I was told that a new ice age was going to result in plummeting temperatures, food shortages by the 1990s, and glaciers covering the norther U.S. and Europe by the 2010s.
In the mid 80s we were going to run out of oil. This would disrupt food production and cause mass starvation by the early 00s.
In late 80s Acid Rain and the Hole in the Ozone were going to kill us all in ten years. The acid rain was going to poison the land, and when the ozone layer was gone the sun's radiation was going to cook the earth. Crops wouldn't grow, and everyone was going to starve.
By the early/mid 90s we had 12 years left due to Global Warming. The global temp was going to rise between 1.5 and 3.0 degrees Celsius disrupting food production, and rising sea levels would drown our coastal cities and causing islands all over the world to sink below the ocean waves.
A decade later, by the mid 2000s we had 12 years left due to Climate Change. They had to change the name because the warming they were predicting didn't happen, but we still had only 12 years due that minimum 1.5C rise in temp! Oh, and the sea levels didn't go up nearly as fast as predicted, nor did any of those islands disappear.
The global elite and governments keep preaching because its all really about control. Specifically control of all the little people they don't want to see in their world.

A few years ago, a friend of mine showed me a National Geographic article about how the people who live on (I think) Tarawa built a wall of sand on the beach to stop the Pacific Ocean from washing their homes away. The next morning, the wall had been washed away by the ocean. I asked my friend what else the ocean had destroyed, and my friend had to admit that the ocean had receded with the tide, just like it always does, and the houses were still there.
Then I asked my friend if they did this every single day, or only when photographers from National Geographic are paying them to do it.
He became very upset and said that paying people to do things are what the climate deniers do, not what they do.
I said that if this wasn't going on, then the Tarawans were pretty stupid for putting in this much effort to build a wall around their island every single day.

We now use trained gators to tow us around on paddle boards since e-bikes don’t work so well with all this water, they attached a ton of helium balloons to Disneyworld to keep it above the water just like in Up, swimming lessons are now mandatory state-wide, and water-proof phone case sales are to the moon.

@@atticustay1the Maldives are still there. haven't changed in twenty years!
@@BlackMasterRoshi Mate, it's just basic science and logic;
-The climate is warming up too fast essentially because of carbon dioxyde. The vaste majority of carbon dioxyde, that cannot be eliminated or stocked without harming anything, has been and is still produced by us, going up in the atmosphere warming up the planet because it is trapped.
-Molecules of water dilate when they warm up therefore they take more space, which leads to the water invading the land.
-The icecap and glaciers are ices that are on land, so not accounted into the current level of water in the oceans, and they are progressively melting because of the heat.
In 2060, worse case scenario (and most plausible if we don't do anything): +3°C. Meaning icecaps and glaciers melting even more and even faster + the oceans warming up, all of that will lead to a clear rise of the oceans everywhere. Therefore, a lot of places not far from the oceans will end up flooded.
Now for your example, the Maldives. First, it changed in twenty years, it's not because you personally refuse to see it that it didn't. Second, the authority of the Maldives said it themselves, the erosion and the sea level rising is fucking them up. 80% of the country could be inhabitable in 2050 because of all of that. Just recently, a climatologist (who once believed in the “climate change” alarmism) stated that the cooling and the warming of the Earth is a cycle. I’m not a climatologist, and I thought that was obvious with the findings of fossilized vegetation in the Antarctic, the climate changes prior to and after the Ice Age, and (most importantly) the “global cooling” alarmism of the 1970’s when we were all supposed to die after a decade. Leftists always have to find something to protest and to instill fear in the populace. I agree 100% that the climate change evidence is distorted, but “climate change” won’t be the end of the human race at all. Even the chart shows a gradual decline in climate temperature after 2052, and that wasn’t discussed. I have no doubt that the Earth’s warmth will peak and then decline back to severe cold after a few centuries if the sun doesn’t burn out. When it comes to nature, we all have opinions and predictions. No one knows for sure.

Yes, in the 70s climate scientists were saying we were entering a global ice age within a generation. The prediction success rate has obviously been not great. That includes the current global warming predictions, they’ve been quite off. The truth is climate is an immensely complex system and has always fluctuated dramatically over long time periods and within those had cycles of warming and cooling. It’s such a complex system it is dishonest to say they understand all the variables involved or how they interact or even that they know what all the variables are. I think measures to be environmentally friendly are great and we should work toward them but they should be reasonable and not imposed in authoritarian/totalitarian ways.
