    Today's video finishes up the power steering conversion on the 77 FJ40. We'll put the pitman arm and drag link together, and mount up the pump. CORRECTION In the video I have the fittings backwards at the box. You shouldn't be able to swap them since they're different sizes but I had the wrong return fitting. Both were the small size. Once i got the correct fitting and swapped them all was right in the world.

    I’m getting ready to convert my 76 fj40 to power steering. Running Chevy 350. Should I do the mini truck or Saginaw conversion?

    Would love to do a p.s. conversion, but I'd probably go Saginaw. So much play between the drag link, center steer box and tie rods in the stock setup.

      I've rebuilt almost all stock steering too. Penny trick in the drag link. Its a tractor.

      I've never liked the Saginaw conversions. They feel like there's no feedback. With everything in good shape and adjusted properly there shouldn't be much play at all in the stock setup.

      Yep, the splines are the same between the two. At least they have been on the couple we've done.

      It's going to be different with a 350. The box mount came from Valley Hybrids and the box itself is from an 85 and older Toyota pick up or 4runner.

      The kit shown in the video will work with block hugger headers. I have a 350 also but with long tube (over the frame rails) headers and was told it won't work. I'm thinking there is enough clearance between the headers and box if banjo fittings are used on the supply and return lines at the box. I'm going to give it a try....

      There isn't a website source for them. They come from Valley Hybrids in Stockton CA.

    What pump did you use and where did you get it?

    • @OTRAMM

      It's a Saginaw pump. I don't remember the part number. If you search Dorrey steering on ih8mud it should come up.

    What power steering box are you using?

    • @OTRAMM
      @OTRAMM  6 років тому

      It's a mini truck power steering box from a solid axle Toyota pick up or 4runner.
