- Such a fantastic talented band of musician's and here is a 100% up-tempo 'feel good' tune from them in their own unique style. Top summer sound for me with the top down of the car and this blasting out.
Man I had fun with music in 60s and 70s too bad most will never know these songs it's what I grew up with 😊

I always heard this tune as TOP's tribute to the Motown groove. It has the same tempo, and swing as one of those old great Four Tops songs. Great stuff.
Gotta agree. You nailed it, just as TOP did. So many stabbed at 'making a Motown record' and failed for lack of imagination and sense of self. TOP had the confidence to nod their own way.

This is the 1st time I have heard this and it is brilliant with great lyrics.
I'm betting that some other's can relate-I'm loving the nostalgia of seeing the album label-it takes you back to when you were shuffling through your albums looking for what you wanted to play-this make me think of the last time that I was at a concert with my then ex wife that I still love but gave up because she wasn't happy with me.
t.o.p with Lenny Williams was untouchable.his voice and the music and that brass section is like frying bacon in a skillet.sizzle

My old band, Powerplay, from Santa Rosa used to play this song. 2 guitars, bass, drums and keyboard. Just mentioning it in case someone out there wants to play this song, but is hesitant bcz they don't have horns.....You can do it! lol

At the time "This Time It's Real" was at position #50 on Billboard's Hot R&B Singles chart, three weeks earlier it had peaked at #27 {for 1 week}...
Between 1972 and 1978 the Oakland, CA band had thirteen records on the R&B Singles chart, with their biggest hit being "So Very Hard To Go", it peaked at #11 {for 1 week} in August of 1973...

Good ole SOUL music from TOP and Lenny Williams, kinda Motownish.
I can’t believe this isn’t a Four Tops Motown song written and produced by Holland Dozier Holland. They NAILED their sound and their production almost to the point that if I didn’t know this was TOP I would have easily thought this was a Motown song by the Four Tops. I hope I’m not the only person that has heard this song before and feels the way I do about it. I heard this song for the first time at a wedding tonight and I could have sworn this was a Four Tops HDH song because it sounds EXACTLY like one. Unbelievable. I can’t think of another song that so closely emulated their sound and production feel that it sounds very much like a song they would have released in 1964 or 1965.
