Track idea: make a track where the optimal way to take each turn sets you up to take the next turn poorly. This way it’s faster to take a mediocre line than one that would normally be good. I think this will really screw up the pros who practice each section of a track until they’ve mastered it before trying the next section, rather than just completing the track first!
Theme idea: Telephone game - X time limit per person (5 mins?), everyone makes a map (or as much of an idea of one as they can), then you trade files, and work on each others maps for the next round (without any out of game instruction). Continue until everyone has rotated one each, and starter creator gets X/2 minutes to touch up and finalize the map. that way each person starts a concept, and the team works towards moving each forward, but some things will be lost in interpretation. the final map might be far off from the initial concept.
You missed the part where you have to "return to normal" as part of the "story." Ending with a ring of eyes seems kinda cool, but then the whole point of "what happened" is lost. "What happened" is that you went into a cave. Without coming out again, you lose the context of the outside world, and it just becomes a portal.
No yeah the whole 'Hero's Journey' concept, as an aspiring writer I can confirm he missed the return journey. Same kind of thing as *The Wizard of Oz*, but more eldritch horror and/or H. P. Lovecraft in there

I like the void idea. Might be a cool theme. How about traveling through the void. Multiple biomes that each enter into the void. Each entrance and exit is a checkpoint. The first biome is high above and each passing of the void will take you lower but each void track is above one another, kriss crossing with barrel rolls and loops, perhaps one lower sections loops around the one above. Until finally you see the light at the bottom... or fire if you wanna go there and that is finish. While typing this out I could also see a track with only one checkpoint and from there you have to decide if you want to go up or down, where down is the hot place but much easier to get to and the top one is the place everyone wants to go in the end but is alot harder but will net you a much better time.

Never played the game(no PC) but followed regularly for entertainment value, maximum boost at beginning is no turns before the end of the booster, then gradual to maintain speed. That's how you get air over the speed check hill.

There's a term for this among trackmania players. I can't think of the exact one in English, but the idea of "untrasitional tech" maps is similar.
