- The Specials perform Nite Club on the David Letterman show.
Quality suffered slightly form the de-interlacing but is more then watchable, audio wasn't processed at all so no room for improvement there.
R.I.P Terry Hall. Genuinely gutted when I found out this morning. I roadied on the first 2Tone Tour back in the day. Terry is, was, one of the sweetest, kindest, funniest men you could ever wish/ed to meet, even for a Man U fan ;-)
Let's not forget that he was a United fan who went to a lot of games in the 70's and 80's when they were winning next to nothing. He was a proper United fan rather than a plastic red who only supported them in the Fergie glory days. He should've had a minute's silence at Old Trafford as well.
@@grizcuz 100% correct. I think it was an awful move on the part of the Old Trafford set-up to sandblast him. Shame on them and may they never win the league again in my lifetime {which won't be that long as I'm well into my 60s nowadays and very ill}
@@hugohackenbush1554 I hope the supporters at OT at least make a banner for Terry at some point. Saw him in the ground frequently right through the 80's, I'm not really a Utd supporter but my family are and I've been to a lot of games over the years. Hope your illness is at least manageable and you're coping, all the best.
@@grizcuz Thank you so much for your kind words my friend. I always tell myself fist thing in the morning, “So what if I'm unable to do all the things I'd like to do, at least it's better than the alternative!”
Fellow Specials and Groucho Marx fan here - wish you all the best and get friggin well soon - greetings from North London
John Bradbury, the King of 2-Tone ska drumming... his chops are still killer!
Sadly, they are no more. Brad was the best.
John Bradbury R.I.P
Underrated drummer he was brilliant RIP JB
Wernt well there n all,legend 🎼🏁🙏
Rest in peace!
What a brilliant performance. RIP Terry Hall LEGEND
RIP John, Terry, Rico.......watching this its hard to believe they are gone
Forty years, I’ve been waiting for ska to break big in the USA, the way it deserved to. Ska has it all: superior musicianship, social commentary, fashion, dance, fun-loving, more hooks than a discarded Christmas tree, race inclusion. You deserved better. Especially you, Terry. Especially you. I feel like I owe you, personally, for all the joy you’ve given me. Maybe I will be able to thank you properly on the other side.
Yeah, but in the long run, if Ska had broken big, then who knows how it would have been warped and screwed up by the US music industry. I'm just as happy the way it worked out.
That said, I got to see the Specials two years ago with my daughter who had just turned 18 at a small (classic!) old venue in Philadelphia, The TLA. They were superb! And to my amazement, she was singing along with 9/10 of the songs - I was so proud
Well some folks considered Sublime SKA, to me they did it justice, turned me onto The Specials. I truly thank them for that!
Great performance! I wish that Neville Staples was here as well though. One of the greatest bands in music history.
The SPECIALS music is so youthful and infectious, that it will forever be influential and timeless.
RIP TERRY HALL and JOHN BRADBURY. I WILL FOREVER MISS THE BOTH OF YOU!
I've seen Neville Staple's band twice recently. Lots of energy, we danced all night, it was great.
Horace Panter killer bass solo leading into the trombone part is fantastic, great performance!
Crowd has no idea what a lucky day it was for them
Incredible band, songs still as fresh as the day they were released.
I'd argue that they're actually somehow MORE fresh than most mainstream music these days.
Don't even get me started on rap.
Missing Terry and John - so great that David made a real effort to show his respect for the band - so glad I managed to see them twice in Vancouver
The Specials. My first bought K7 ever, with the few money I had, I was 12. Still listening to The Specials, best band ever.
About Terry- he's open about having depression issues, and while he doesn't show it he says performing again and feeling the crowd's feedback has been good for him. Saw them in Vancouver and it was a fantastic, fantastic night.
must have been a great show
Rip Terry.. Heard news 1 hr.. 79 UK was fantastic and the Specials was a beam of light as the walls came down in UK..
RIP Terry. What a great performance.
The legendary ska 2 tone drummer..RIP John Bradbury..beautiful 2tone drum kit
Watching this in 2022 is a revelation. As a teenager I was a suburban kid who wanted to be ska like my idols, The Specials. Saw this performance when it originally aired and thought "ah hell, they've sold out!" Watching this clip now I realize that they were simply a great band, and it was great music, and we all grow up... and out of things
I can tell you as a suburban youth I reckon I was ska, a rude boy for sure with my two tone dress, dancing in the aisles to Dance Craze at the midnight movie, I went the way of Oi and punk but never lost my love and true identity as a rude boy, all the same really, I will say yes I grew up but definitely did NOT grow out of any of it. Rudie skanking punk Oi! boy for life! 🖤🤍✌️
I don't think they ever sold out, I think the band did go through some rough patches though. Seeing a band I like play on Letterman or any other late night show was always a pleasure for me, though. I always thought it was awesome that a band I liked was getting national recognition.
@@charleshanna5725 "but never lost my love and true identity as a rude boy"
There's something to be said about that. It's like there's a skanking bone in my body, and no matter what I'll always love ska.
John Bradbury you were a part of my childhood and my adulthood. RIP.
Best of British Ska!
Live!
Rest in Heavenly Peace Terry Hall 💔💔💔 Much Love you've given, Your Light will Shine Forever! #TheSpecials
Legends, no bullshit from these guys just brilliant!
My favourite Specials track. I remember being in a club for young adults on a Saturday, and asking to play this, but the DJ didn't know of the somewhat controversial line.."all the girls are slags (Tramps in USA) and the beer tastes just like piss" (he wasn't very happy with me, as it was a kids club on Saturday afternoon)
I notice this video they muted "piss" but not "slags"😂 because they didn't know what a slag was in America😂
So many years later and tey still sounds GREAT
Very rare we get a glimpse at the bass soo of Sir Horace Gentleman. Gotta love the dancing!
RIP Terry
The perfect voice to perform the British side of two tone music, sang with original accent makes the lyrics sound real and raw
STEP UP AND TELL EM RUDE BOY
KEEP THE FAITH 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
Favorite from my youth. Still have the vinyl and some rare 7" (Friday Night...).
R.I.P. Brad. he taught me to dance, along with Horace.
Loved to finally see them live in Portland.
Terry Hall, timeless!
Great period 78-80, unity , great optimism and vibe on the streets... Specials played a key role.
You summed it all up in a very short sentence.
It was a wonderful optimistic time. I am grateful to have been a young man when the Specials arrived.
Just an amazing live performance, Rip Terry , So many great memories from the specials ,
Still touring this year , all be it with 3 original members........,, I'm still going to see them though!
RIP John Bradbury , so missed.
I saw em a few yrs ago. WHAT A SHOW!!!!!! Danced so much I busted my meniscus. Was worth it!!!!!
*albeit
how good is this !?? super tight the specials are indeed very special! x
Terry Hall will always be special. He's skanking in heaven now.
Dave wearing the black and white wingtips for the occasion! Nice!
Rip John Bradbury
+christian lopez thanks for knowing who he WAS lots of love a cov kid
I saw them on Hastings pier in 1980, supported by the Bodysnatchers and the Go-Go's, whose singer was one Belinda Carlisle. Great gig!
Terry collaborated with the go gos Jane Weidlin after the 2 tone era and they wrote "Our lips are sealed" which was released by the go-gos and fun boy three.
Wow knowing the history of Hastings pier you are one lucky person !
@@AndysEastCoastAdventures he also wrote Rush hour with her which she had a hit with
Andy's East Coast Thats interesting
Legends, thanks for great teenage years. priceless
How good was that?!! great live version, R.I.P. Terry.
thanks for those fantastic tight beats that got me moving RIP
Saw these guys on "Saturday Night Live" and my mind was blown, four decades later.....
Those horns! Iconic Ska! That Bass!
All those years gone by still sounding brilliant as ever great performance
Covs finest! Makes me proud to be Cov lad!
I love this music so much :-)
What a fantastic live show they put on! Loved the small attention to detail: e.g. the two tone drum kit and guitar sling. I also loved the fact they didn't change the words to appease the audience and kept it as raw as the original. Finally, every part of this song I empathise with and can fully relate to. So many times I have been in a night club and thought: what am I doing here? all the girls are slags and the beer tastes just like piss! These lyrics are so real, so spot on and so relevant!
Oh Rest In Peace wonderful Terry Hall. Crossed over far too soon. A unique talent. Xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
R.I.P. Terry and John. Will never be forgotten.
Fantastic Band 😎
What a legend bless him
Still AWESOME
great vibes from the 80's :-)
OMG fecking love these guys!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
Beautiful
Brad, my lovely brother in law. Miss you…
what a great song - first time seeing this one, thru still had it even then - RIP Terry
Class band, what i was into in my early teens,
Just knew about Terry Hall's death... So sad. Hope Specials's music to be even more valued from now on.
Horace is superb
Brilliant
Amazing
I used to go to Mr Georges in Cov - that very Club and stand in the Burges waiting for a taxi home.......
LOVE IT !!!!!!!!! Gr8 sound hd
just got my tickets for september in boston cant wait
Bloody hell. Really good.
Excellent!
Great video, great song and nice to see an uploader focused on bringing beautiful HD video to UA-cam (the deinterlacing looked fine) Thanks!
WOW. RIP Brad.
Terry and Lynval
Honorary Camdenites!
RIP John. Taken too soon ❤️
Probably one of the greatest bands of the 70/80s
Great band
a message to you rudy is one of the best songs ever!
I love this song. That bass! Also, I find it funny how they're allowed to call girls slags but not say the word 'piss'!
Because slag isn't in the lexicon over here. I find it odd that they would censor the word "piss". People say it on tv all the time, and this show is on very late at night anyway
I noticed how that one slipped past them too ha.
All the girls are sluts and the beer tastes just like "piss"
You ever see a band way past their prime playing on TV with a song that nobody knows and isn't very good, and just think "How pathetic?"
Yeah, this isn't that. This is the opposite of that. This band is timeless.
great band great muziek amen
Fantastic😊
Good stuff! Memories. RIP Terry
Terry 🐐
Did they really bleep out the word piss? Lolol, land of the free eh? 😂
Terry sounds pretty damn good..
Rest easy Terry Hall. The Specials = the best ska band outside of Jamaica.
Saw a gig in Blackpool on that 30th anniversary tour 😎
Horace Panter is a killers in the bass
Sir Horace Gentleman does not get his due as a bassist. Underrated, but we love him!
God bless you Terry❤
Outstanding.
AAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Fantastic.
So sad to hear Terry Hall has died. As a Coventry teenager, living in an era of race riots and pove try they were the voice of a generation. They are light years away from the manufactured pop of today and I don't think we will ever see their likes again sadly.
Nice to see Dave enjoying them at the end.
Great post GT
lo mejor del mundo del ska
RIP Brad.
The beer tastes just like, we’ll never mind that. The Specials are the best!!
Grandes two tone forever
Say what you will about their age, they STILL GOT IT!
I'll be saying them in a few weeks for the first time ever, and probably only time, as they'll never be back to Chicago. That whole venue is gonna be moving.
Wow that was amazing
RIP, JB
Terry Hall went blinking mad at the end of the video.
0:32 Tim Heidecker and Elon Musk had a baby, and he's playing saxophone in The Specials
The lads from up the road...:-)
im here❤
Neville was absent as he was on Conan O'Brien fronting a Fun Boy Three revival.
LOL.................
Rody Radiation!
Terry Hall one of the great English frontmen who actually sang with a English accent
Still a great band.
What a band! Fucking great'
