JSU successfully defended home turf.. However, SU has improved significantly from last season. Southern won the zero quarter, but seemed like they ran out of gas. JSU was just better in every other category. Song selection, sound, precision, and halftime all go to JSU.
SUs song selection during zero quarter was a beast, regardless of them interrupting the pregame presentations... SU will take any opportunity, where as JSU follows protocol... JSU definitely took the 5th... SU started strong, however they were quite lackluster the entire 5th and flat...
Southern definitely sounded well organized this year and very balanced, more like the standard of skill, quality and power needed to be called the Human Jukebox. Welcome back
Both bands performed well. Southern learned from last year, improved its musicality, and tried to highlight its woodwinds, but was still playing catch-up. Jackson's overall musicality and arrangements gave them the win. Kevan Johnson is a beast!
Both was good. Jsu had better song selections. Jsu was cleaner. Jsu trumpets was by far better than SU. My favorite song was that Turn Me on. SU Loose control should have had more to it but it was POWERFUL. It wasn't like last year's battle when jsu was taking damn near ever round but this years battle was alot better. But i don't think the juke wins this battle. JSU for the win 🏆

But she watched it with me and said jsu won based of of song selections and energy. I know what to look for. Su trumpets had some fluffs the music choices wasn't that good let's be honest.

I love them both but i gotta give it to JSU. Song selection was just better and they were a tad bit cleaner to me. Some of SU runs the trumpets were a bit muddy and thin. JSU had some flaws too but overall cleaner. They both blowing watts though.

Jsu sounds so good!! Balanced and dynamic. Every instrument can be heard but also fits into the ensemble for the one sound. Su sounds good too. They need more trumpets, and stronger tubas. I'd say that and more polish and they may have a legit chance. I'm not being funny I'ma super su fan but i call it how i see it.
SU won the Zero Quarter, while JSU won the 5th Quarter. It seems like both bands are holding back a little bit for the BoomBox Classic BOTB if there is one later in the season. If so I'm sure both bands will have an expanded book. I got this as a tie. JSU started off strong, but tapered off as the battle went on with execution. SU overall was less spectacular with the arrangements, but stayed competitive with the sound. I dont really see how you can give either band a clear win tbh. Looking forward to both programs getting stronger as the season goes on
I got Jackson but I feel like this was closer than what it should have been based on players alone. Their sound was more consistent throughout and cleaner than SU but it’s kinda like you getting one flavor since they only got one arranger in front of the band. I think a BOTB benefits SU and Jackson should be careful. I don’t know how the funding is but Jackson needs to add a couple more directors to that staff.

Man JSU finally have all the right pieces again, and it’s working! Them boys running off from the pack. Taylor didn’t know how to follow up after the Haymer era, that band should’ve went to Simmons! Since Simmons left, you can clearly see the downward trend. They have become more bottom heavy, SU has always been top strong. They dropped that sound, and JSU picked it up and took off with it. Having trumpets now paired with a consistently strong JSU t-bone line, have them balanced nice!
