@@Jppnametaken it depends. Non traditional forms of marketing can do wonders. For example, tesla does not broadcast any traditional ads on tv or social media
As a wine person, I'll say this thing. This is probably very first video in modern times about making champagne that you can share to a friend asking why champagne cost as much as it costs, than it's a video on Krug. And when I say modern times, I mean on interesting 10 minutes to a friend who don't really care of such a thing, but it's interesting to watch! To top it up, very special thing to watch and thank you a lot Alexander for this, sharing such a thing with us!
From one Alexander to another. My father, Tim illustrated John Arlott's book "The House of Krug", and that was enough of a family connection for me to get a place working in the 1989 vendange - even working the Clos de Mesnil. My left hand still bears the scars, literally of the hardest job I have ever had, then 24 hour shifts in the Pressoir, and the highlight a lunch with Monsieur Henri - chicken and tarragon pie with a bottle of '52. Honoured to have been part of the legend. Keep up the good work.
This may be my favorite video you have done. The production and the theme are top notch. Unlike the restaurants you visit, it is “possible” to go there as mere mortals, but this takes us somewhere that’s virtually impossible to experience firsthand. Everything about Krug is perfection, except the music pairing which I think is BS. Damn, there goes my invitation. 😂
When I first heard it, I though how pretentious. Then I considered what they were trying to achieve, which is a complete sensory experience. The product has taste, smell, visual appeal, and mouth feel of the bubbles, that covey the complexity. Unless you are keen of hearing, the only thing left is sound. Personally, I'd mic the bubbles, but I understand what they are trying to do and I don't think BS, just requires an explanation.
I appreciate that Krug is trying to innovate, but the music pairing and the app for code scanning (instead of just a database of codes) are bullshit. Focus on the top notch quality champagne. Don't make useless distractions around it!
@@stevecarlisle7341 making new compositions every year is BS. Just like champagne, you only need to perfect it once. Krug can't top classics like Mozart, Chopin, etc.
I work in advertising and this is in fact a clear marketing trick. They probably struggle to get attention and tell an interesting story for their releases. 'Here's number 172, after last years 171!'. They create this thing with musicians so they have something new to tell and to help explain the abstract nuances and differences in bottles probably. So, TL;DR yes, it is total BS.
The quality of these videos is remarkable, truly. To get this content for free on a regular basis is an absolute treat, and the whole team behind it deserve all the praise they get!
It was a fantastic episode with such a subtle humor that made me chuckle several times. Super interesting too. I was left yearning for more. Watching it was truly a great experience.
Exceptional video as usual. I love the attention for small details! Even though I'm neither rich nor an expert, you make me feel very welcome to the world of fine dining and wine. Also, your editing and production team definitely deserve a raise, bravo!
I went to Champagne last June, and went to the Krug House to just see the purple doors. Thank you for giving us an insight. Your invite was well deserved for the marketing you make for Krug. ❤

This is the ultimate Champagne experience possible in the world. Thank you for sharing your visit. It is absolutely extraordinary! I love Krug Champagne and this video is a perfect showcase of the product.
Due to a medical condition; I am unable to drink any kind of alcohol. I am overtly sensitive to tanins, so any kind of red blend tastes like sucking on wood. Even though I can /smell/ all the beautiful notes. But then I had to give it up due to liver problems and other medical concerns. All this to say, thank you. Thank you for sharing your love of fine food, and fine drink, with all of us. I can almost imagine how good it must taste, and how each glass compliments each dish. I will never be able to taste it in person- but its so fascinating to hear about such an involved process.
When I was still in the alcohol business I got the privilege to be invited to one of their education seminars in the US. They teach you everything about Krug and you get to taste their entire lineup. When you get to experience tasting their entire lineup back to back you really appreciate the different price points and tasting differences.
Exceptional video. Thank you for sharing an incredible experience few will ever have the opportunity to enjoy! Krug with that lemon dessert, wow... must have been extraordinary.
Alexander - please always show the rest of us *how* to eat some of the more unusual dishes you encounter (like the egg yolk & rice, balanced on a honeycomb, shown here); I find that aspect of things almost as interesting as the food itself! (Also, please demonstrate some of the less-common utensils in action.)
I tried a 171 bottle recently. I'm a factory-worker, this was a big deal for me. Now I'm not an expert, but I was seriously underwhelmed. So, high-end Champagne is not for me but I'll still watch the vid!
It wasn't until I did a Wine Spirit and Education course that I started to appreciate high-end wines. You have to train your palate, which the course teaches you. Once you have then expensive wines become fantastic, but you can then also discern the quality ones from the over-priced.
@@StimParavane They already tried and didn't like the champagne. Why would they pay for a class to tell them why they are "supposed to" like something?

I love that I'm learning more about wine from your channel now as well. Thank you, Alexander, thank you Krug family and staff, and chef Arnaud ! I finally learned all an amateur like me needs to learn about champagne. Does anyone tilt the glass when pouring champagne, like when pouring beer? It would seem to preserve bubbles, but imaybe there is some other reason fine dining places pour without touching the glass.

Many of the producers in Champagne offer tours to the public for a fee (€25-€50 in my experience).
