Joes influence looks to have settled into their psyche ,as long as he keeps that squad together, the cohesion will also settle them, and make them even better. Happy to see our Anzac neighbours finally see some results.

Dave Rennies Wallabies were the best squad we have had for years and years, it was all coming together, but they were just hit with a ridiculous amount of injuries, on the end of year tour, that led to the Italy loss. That was when he was fired and the ensuing Eddie Jones debacle butchered the team and the code. A lot of the Wallabies yesterday were in the 2022 side. Joe Schmidt and co know how to coach though, its plain to see.
Incroyable match, j'ai adoré, je me suis régalé.
Wow, just wow, the Ozzies hit the ground running, the English pissed them off and they went gloves off raw, no doubt, just goes to show the belief the players have in themselves, spectacular game of Rugga, that was special, yeh just wow.
Excellent analysis, Alfred, as always - perceptive, focused, concise and even handed! It's good for rugby to have the wallabies back in contention but an indication the England seem to have lost their way.
I hate to begin anything with the phrase "speaking as a ...", but then again there are some moments when speaking as a Scot is the only prefix, so, speaking as a Scot I loved it. England were more than decent and again should have finished the job. I was reminded of seeing the Aussies in the early 80s in Cardiff, and I was blown away by the size of their backs as well as the unbelievable options they had off 10. Great content, by the way.
Bell would be the best loosehead going round right now. Marcus Smith played very well except, going for the intercept of the winning try. Best test debut ever for souialii
@@janniemeyer9951 or they undercooked their preparations thinking about the Boks next week.. no ranking points beating the nr 9 team ..plenty beating nr 1 . Just throwing that out there .
Congratulations to Australia, well played and they really needed that W. One thing I saw in yesterday's game from England is their lack of intensity and physicality in defense. Shooting up with the rush D and then being passive is a recipe for dissaster.
England forwads are not fit. First time I’ve seen Itoje with a little tube around his waist. Marcus Smith looked like the only one trying, and giving his best. He was excellent yesterday. They simply ran out of steam, and could not close that game out. Defense looks a shamble at times. Congratulations Australia, what a win🎉🎉😅
If I was a pom I would not be too worried - this was an extremely high standard game (as well, of course, as great entertainment). If they keep playing to that standard they'll win a lot more than they lose. It is just that the last time I, as an Aussie, ever saw a Wallaby backline do what this one did was in the days of the Ella brothers and Campese.
It’s going to be three losses in a row when they get beaten by South Africa, Borthwick needs to bring in more talented players, far to slow to react, went to sleep at the end. England coaches learning on the job, not good enough. Big changes needed.
If you cannot coach players it doesn’t matter who you bring in and bortwick has never won anything internationally and it’s not going to happen either.
I suspect that Schmidt will do a much better job of nuturing the Aussie 'green chutes' than England coaching set-up has for the last 5-6 years. We have a long list of seedlings that have been neglected and left to wilt. The summer tours should, ideally be against teams that we can throw our up and coming players at, to set them on a path of growth. We have found, in recent terms, Feyi- Waboso as true box-office as well as CCS. We have also lost so much more to rules and probably ego. England need to shore up the squad talent by using the huge pool they have and then we can accept some bumps along the road. This feels like a bandaged-up team that just doesnt quite have the steam to achieve its goals. Using old heads with zero rugby time is a huge missed opportunity. I fear a proper hiding next week and then Japan will seem like a serious banana skin when it should have been an opportunity to give the all the players bit of game time. Very frustrating. A great Test match however, when all said and done.
long suffering wallabies fan here. best win since we knocked out england from the 2015 wc. There's been a few false dawns in between now and then - but i think this is the turning point we've all be looking for. Crazy how much one game can change everything.
This result for England is not the same as losing close games home and away to New Zealand. Australia played okay, but they're not a top 5 team. A close win for England would have papered over deeper issues.
How many tackles did Chandler Cunningham-South miss yesterday? He might make one or two big hits but he was made to look very poor by Australia in defence
Overrated, should be in show business. Scoring a try in the first 5 minutes, and then celebrates as if he scored the winning try at a World Cup.One or two carries, and then disappears. Compare that to Angus Bell?
Congrads Australia, commiserations England. What a game, I'm a Kiwi, loyal AB's supporter all day. But this game was better than last week's game England v AB's, so I'm rapt for the Aussies win. They need to back it up next week, if they can do that & win, I'll give them a chance to to win their grand slam. If they can do that, the Aussies are gonna have good team & confidence going into British Lions Test 2025, not only that with the SA's world champs & still the best team in the world, the AB's having a good end of their Notrn tour not to far behind them, then Ireland & the all of a sudden found some form, chur
England need a few more tweaks and they will deliver . I feel the ceiling is a bit higher for the Ozzies and they have a great future with some extreemly exciting game makers .
Considering Australia had new coach very young team shows me Schmidt is by far a better coach than the ordinary bortwick who has had 2 years and England are now getting beat regularly by teams above and below them. Australia were great yesterday England missed 35 tackles most teams don’t miss 35 tackles in 3 games. They lost their defence coach and are now trying to do defence on the cheap and it shows. Last 7 games won 2 one of them against tier 2 nation japan and lost 5 with SA stepping up next.😢
Big picture, I'm stoked to see Aus getting back towards their old form. As an england fan that should have been a warm up for SA. Tough ti pinpoint the issue but for context, we can clearly see Aus progression from where they were in RC, England on the other hand seem a little stunted at the moment. Defense hit or miss, attack showing moments of greatness than disappearing completely. Tough one to figure out
As an Aussie I thought Marcus Smith was the man of the match. Without him England would not have fired a shot and it would not have been a close match.
Aussies heading back in the right direction. Eddie didn’t have enough time to cause terminal damage. Eng still under the ghost of Jones via SB. All toil and brawn ans not enough attacking type players. I hope Holl., the Willis brothers, Pearson and some changes at Center result. Finally.
was it on the Ruck podcast where an Aussie Journo said Australli can never be SA/France when it comes to depth? True, but they can emulate and better what Ireland have done in putting out competitive 23s. They clearly have access to elite athletes with incredible skills and some great front five players too. Great for the game (although I wish they'd waited a week to show it). As for England. Smith was immense in attack and defence. Sadly though, a few have shown they aren't up to the level needed. The drop off in physicality when Curry went of and Dombrandt came on was a killer. I wish Dombrandt could step up, but maybe he can't. Isewke also doesn't offer enough outside the lineout. And the scrum got worse when Cole came on. I also would love to know the idea of going for that all-or-nothing play where Kelleway scored? Why run a play with an empty backfield there? Freeman was killing it in the air, use him. Borthwick has been hurt by his loyalty. A bench of Davidson LCD Baxter Coles (or maybe Tizard if he'd been in camp) Hill/Pearson (or both if 6-2) Might have won that
See if we can stay consistent, We will probably loose to Wales. But it was a great game to watch and both sides had their chances of winning for England they lost two games by less than 7 points so it was just one or two crucial moments. The AB's were in the same boat when they went to South Africa and lost their two games there crucial moments.
Australia are hosting the next world cup. They have always had truckloads of talent and money. And now they have Joe and Mike Cronn. They were always going to get better. Unfortunate for England we saw a glimpse of Australia's potential this weekend. Dont panic, please keep playing the same predictable patterns, maybe review strength and conditioning, there are a few chubby checkers in the England squad.
English club rugby has produced an excellent crop of players in all positions during the last few years, credit to the coaches and various academies for that. All of them shine when playing for their respective clubs but it turns bad when they put the England shirt on for some reason. Mind you, Borthwick's comment about the shirt "wearing heavily" sounds to me like a lame excuse to dodge the reality that he, and his team, are not up to it. I've been participating in and watching local rugby for many years and to me, and my rugby mates, there's no doubt that they lack direction and leadership. Borthwick is a corporal when they need a genera.l
Congratulations Australia. You've got to remember where they were 12 months ago. Out of the RWC in the pool stages for the firdt time, Schmidt came in and has only had the Wales tests and RC. England's disjointed rush D made it easier for them. England in comparison are going backwards. The worrying thing is it seems to be different issues game to game. I dont thinkk the D was as good as is being made out against the AB's as they were a bit vulnerable on the edge but agianst the Aussies it was atrocious. England got caught out time after time with defenders in two minds and not committing to the blitz. Slade often jumps out which I criticise him for but perhaps its just that the rest of the line aren't committing to it? I looked at Australia's selection and thought they'd lack some punch not going with Skelton and Kerevi but got it spot on going for mobility and speed.
Lacking punch? Australia absolutely battered them physically. The power athletes wallabies had were much better than England. Wallabies better side deservedly. Ben youngs as arrogant as expected.
