    MY GOODNESS!!! To my ears, the MTD 535 and 635 basses can't touch the old Tobias basses with respect to the tone!

      Johnny, how tight are the string spacings on the Killer B? I'm currently playing a Lakland 55-02, and love the spacings. I've come across a guy here in Dallas who's got a '96 Killer B 6-string in AWESOME condition he wants to sell.... I'm wondering how much tighter the Tobias is, if it's worth a trip to see it...

    Are you sure that's an active/passive bass? It seems to me you have a 3-way toggle, and a push-pull volume - which would make it all Active, with the toggle being mid select, and the push-pull being slap contour when you pull it up

    • @ChrisTromp
      @ChrisTromp 2 роки тому

      This is correct. This particular Killer B is a mid to late 90's and the switch is a mid-shift selector. Pulling up on volume does not disable the preamp - it is a mid-cut contour. Gibson called this the "slap switch" as it boosts the bass and treble and cuts mids. The oldest Killer B's had a black veneer headstock and a bridge marked with the name "Tobias" on the left side face of the bridge.

    Johnny, what strings are you using? I have a KillerB 6 and the strings need replacement; I’d love a good recommendation. Thanks in advance!

    I have one 5 string ash body, my friends keep on saying to let it go, and buy other brands, no way! I'd rather add more than to let go, they don't make one of these anymore.
    Hehehe

    Johnny, how would you compare a Tobias Killer B to a Lakland? In terms of quality, feel, tone and versatility? I'm currently playing a Lakland 55-02, and play blues, R&B and soul, and a little bit of jazz. I've come across a guy here in Dallas who's got a '96 Killer B 6-string in AWESOME condition he wants to sell.... I'm wondering how good the Tobias is, if it's worth a trip to see it...

      Tobias = Rollys Royce/Bentley
      Lakland = Buick
      Both are nice, I mean very nice but Tobias is the ultimate bass of all time
