  • The International Shipping Industry shares a major chunk, about 90%, of the global trade in goods. According to the International Chamber of Shipping, there are more than 50,000 merchant ships operating in the oceans currently.
    Container ships (also spelled as containerships) are cargo ships that carry the load in large-sized intermodal containers. They are classified into various categories, based on their carrying capacity. Presently, there are seven major types of container ships in service. In ascending order, they are - Small Feeder, Feeder, Feedermax, Panamax, Post Panamax, New Panamax (or Neo Panamax), and Ultra Large Container Vessel (ULCV).

    FYI : Ever Given is the sister ship of Ever Golden. They are of the exact same design, size and capacity.... In fact, Evergreen Marine own seven ships of this design. Usually shipping company builds several ships (5~12) of the same design to maximize their operation. In other words, although this video list 10 largest container ships, in reality there are more than 70 of them, all with the size to block Suez canal again.....

      Interesting. I watched a documentary once on youtube and a captain of one of these ships said that it's more dependent on the harbours, even those as big as Rotterdam and Singapore (at least at the moment).

    HMM 24,000TEU sister 12 vessels are already operating & sailing on 2020. And 16,000TEU size 10 vessels are making now on korea shipyard.

      hey Korean ShipYards ! greetings from the Netherlands ! when i was a kid in 1984, i saw there were cars & MSX-Computers from Hyundai, (and Samsung & Daewoo were pretty impressive too) and my dad worked at a Hyundai shipyard !

    "Madrid Maersk" in this video looks more like its predecessor, a member of Mærsk Mc-Kinney Møller class. In Madrid, the superstructure has a more frontal position.

    Why none of them passes the 400m length mark ? Is there some reason for this ? Just wondering. I mean it would make sense to make one ....420m long to fit at least another tower of containers, right ? Seems strange to me - But I'm sure there must be some reason behind it

      She, Ever Glory and Ever Golden are from the same class. but I think Ever Glory and Ever Golden can carry slightly more containers than Ever Given. Hence she was not mentioned here.

    In case you want to know, Algeciras (pronounced Al he thi ras) is a port in Spain, one of the most important in the Mediterranean Sea. It is located on the same bay as Gibraltar.

    Interesting read but a bit meaningless, it is almost equivalent to comparing which F1 car is bigger. A more meaningful comparison may be on which shipping companies have more tonnage / TEU / ships to give you some sense of size.

      Ever Golden is the first of the Golden-class container ship. Same class of Ever Given, so there is no reason to put 2 of the same class in the list.

    Why do all ship's looks the same (same hull). Are they all copy of Maersk triple-E class?
    I know that M/S Maersk Mc-Kinney Moller was the first container vessel with the bridge center of the ship, now they all have it.

    It is not uncommon that shipping lines will under report the true capacity of their ships , no reason to let competitors know to much as it plays into the prices they need to charge customers to make money.
