  • In this video we show how to root cuttings of different kind of cacti. The purpose may be getting grafted cacti back on their own roots, or propagation of cuttings taken from grafted species. Also of emergency calls or just propagation this information is useful. Though we have tried to keep the video short, this topic requires time to explain. We use subtitles so the information can be translated to other languages (we always need help to do that). Please watch the complete video as each part contains valuable information

    Ive tried out a new germination method. 50/50 coarse sand and perlite, seeds above, covered with fine ish sand, sprayed both the seeds, the top of the mix, and the sand with a water bleach mixture(in food trays).
    Germination is great.
    Also, thanks. Been wondering about rooting de-grafts. Never tried using sand...

      cactuS Mann hi, what is the bleach % or ratio you use ? Most of my seeds fail to germ due to mold I think, does this help ?

    Fantastic content as always , thank you !
    I have two questions- the deep pots that you use, where can they be purchased ? Secondly do you have much experience growing Tephrocactus from seed ? If yes could you share some advice ?
    Thanks !!

      I only know where to buy them in the Netherlands, but there are a number of companies that sell all kind of pots. Depends on where you live. Most Opuntia seeds are difficult to germinate. I did not have much practice with Tephrocactus seeds

      DRCEVNL thank you! I’ve heard about opuntioids being challenging so it looks like I have no choice but to experiment. Look forward to your additional videos.

    I would love to know what your regular potting substrate consists of.

    • @Cactusinformation
      @Cactusinformation  5 років тому +6

      Hi Colin, that changes in time. I think we have to do a video on substrates. One problem is that each country seems to have its own availability of basic materials (and it is difficult for us to compare these). We had to change our standard substrate (just volcanic sand) because of the climate change and added vermiculite to it so it keeps moisture a bit longer

      @@Cactusinformation thank you for the reply. A video on substrates would be great. I think it's helpful to see what other growers use, even if that exact product isn't immediately available to me. Keep up the great videos!

    Can you show us how to graft hyelocereus on opuntia, please? All your videos are awsome. Thank you for all.

      Are you talking bout a specific kind of Hylocereus, as Hylocereus is a very strong grower and is used itself as grafting stock

      @@Cactusinformation I ask because I received cactus grafted hyelocereus but without roots and it take a long time to root and dehydrate a lot. watching your video it occurred to me that you could graft the rootstock in an opuntia in the same way that you do with the Selenicereus. this would save me the time and the risk of rooting it. Have you ever thought about it? and even more important, is it possible to do this? I hope you can help me ... thank you very much for reading.

      @@Rushlee94 Thank you, now i understand what you are trying to do. Sure it can be done if you have an Opuntia that matches the size of a Hylocereus. Maybe the video grafting with tiles can help you with that
