Small, fun, and affordable music machines. Giving me the illusion of saving money as I buy all of them.
Thank you. Surprisingly there are almost no walkthroughs nor tutorials. Almost all the videos show the features but don’t explain “how to” you and loopop are about it for walkthroughs. So thank you 🙏
That jam sounds huge so quick. Seems really dynamic in what you can do with it. Fast workflow. Cool stuff.
I love that as I watch your hands moving you are clearly moving your whole body because you are fully into it. Great job
If I designed those I would have wired those magnetically on the sides so they could interconnect like blocks wirelessly. Several people have showed this kind of tech at shows already.
Sadly... if you did designed them like this.... you would go bankrupt trying to push this tech. I love the idea of magnets..
@Synth Cat I mean in general.... if your mixing synths and stuff from a different tech era. It means your target group needs to be heavily invested in the idea of using misplaced tech. Interconnecting gear like BLOCKs but in these larger formats.... makes no sense if everyone places/setups their gear differently
@Synth Cat As long as the does not increase... for these specifically.... novel idea... I think its just more practical to keep things standardized
@Synth Cat Totally agree...Kind of like how 4/4 music is......
I love you
As always, very entertaining video. I admire how it always come so easy to you to create at hoc something sounding great .
I keep coming back to listen to the jam. What a blast !
That was an amazing performance. I'd definitely buy a finished version of it. immensely energetic!
Would likely love 2 new iOS apps (ELECTROBASE and THE 404)👍
Thanks for posting! I'm excited to pick some (or maybe all) of these up. Great to have more players in the Korg Volca space! And they're sufficiently different from the Volca range too.
And hopefully none of the garbage clock issues that the volcas have!
Awesome overview and jam man I’m really loving these boxes as well. The connectivity is so solid, Roland hit it outta the park. One thing I’m sure u know, you can change the T-8 bass waveform from square to saw in the menu, also by holding pattern and hitting A#. ✌️🎹🎶
Jesus, that jam was a ride!! What an exhibit in great design by Roland, honestly.
A very thorough tutorial on the range of Roland Compact T8 J6 E4... Thank you
This got me tapping and boping along, great job!
Love the desk! If I see one more wooden desk with a plant on it I'm gonna lose it.
That said, I recently started my journey into the whole synth rabbit hole. These really provide a solid starting point. Super easy to achieve some cool sounding beats within minutes.
Really surprised at how well that vocal synth works. Sounds pretty awesome!
You have a gift, sir. You really know your stuff.
Just got the J-6 and am on the lookout for an E4. I’ll be keeping them on the desk for a while, they seem useful. Thanks for the vid!
Great as always, Jeremy. I'm really wanting to pick these up and run them into my Octatrack using EZBOT's performance templates for just instant party fun time.
You have the best tutorial out there
I’ve learned so much
thank you 🙏🏻
This is good for sure. But everyone knows Loopop’s tuts are the 🐐
I ordered mine! I can't wait to get them!
Detroit Grand Pubahs reference… yes! I saw them perform at a DJ/Warehouse party in Detroit many years ago… and yes, the vocoder was in full effect.
For anyone interested in these it's worth noting that the T-8 is not a stripped down TR-808 but rather a mash up of TR-909, TR-808 and TR-606. It has instruments from each. For example the kick is 909. It cannot do an 808 kick which would have been nice
Still like the raw dry as hell TR-505 for strictly making straight pattern beats it's an underated drum machine/midi sequencer folks
No 808 kick? Thanks you saved me money
Wow I didn’t expect a Bon Iver dance party at the end. Very cool!
Still familiarizing myself with the three units but your video offers great tips on using them together. Definitely some fun jams on the way
Jesus christ the tunes you were making from this. Great work!
even though im not a huge fan or most of roland/aira products they definitely did a good job with these
Wow. The voice transformer sounds foken fantastic. Thank u 4 a revU
Delicious jam man! xD
I swore I I wasn’t going to get these! I only refrained from getting the chord machine because, get this (I dont need it, lol I don’t need any of them, but my phone has a great chord app on it) thanks Jeremy, your explanation of them is awesome!
Dude this is sick
SPAGHETTI BUS!!
for real tho GREAT VID! You did an awesome job showing the features and jamming! Thank you bro!
🤜💥🤛
Nice u just showed me some thing I didn't know about the t8 ...that chords synth sounds great didn't think it would be as good as it was same with the voice changer the S1 would have sounded great with an ARP building up in the back ground.. but this was awesome
Sounds cool i was adding some extra phasers with my hand cupping on my phone speaker
The outro song was on point! 👍
I am definitely picking up the E-4 as soon as I have the money. I can definitely imagine it'd be good for ridiculous trance/EBM vocals.
Sounds amazing. The jam was very cool man. But I think they could have made the controls smaller on the T8 !! 😂
Yaa, felt those Pubah Vibes in the first Video too. Just lovin it.
Jeremy, I love your "Yeayuh"
Nice show. Thanks a lot.
Question for anyone who knows: at 2:05 he shows how switching the pattern on the T-8 also switches the pattern on the J-6. If one had a TR-6S and a J-6, would you also be able to link up pattern changing in this way? Or does it only work like that with the T-8? Thx
Very nice!! Is it possible to change T8 patterns with a footswitch? If yes, can anyone recommend one and explain how to set it up?
I got my t8 today it's great defo getting the S1 next month.. it would have been great if they brought out a Aire sampler ....iv noticed the t8 work flow is pretty similar to the t.e p.o
I just wish the T-8 had a little more selections on the drum side, like 808 & 909 kicks, snares, cowbells, rims. That and the bass engine, portable heaven!
Inspiring to see your own flow on these magic boxes, got the J6 and it's a trickster, using the filter like a volume is a goody. Where's the 'Buds' card, haha.
That’s a great jam perfect little daw less set up
You just made me want to get a Vocoder even though I never felt the need for a Vocoder 😞
Hi :) great video how do you record them ?
nice track 🌀
amazing music
Hey there if I wanted to record the vocals… is that possible on the vocal machine… is there more than one track or is there just the looper to catch a phrase that repeats? I’m getting back into production and almost settled on the verselab but it only has one dedicated vocal track & I would like to be able to have at least 3 I could choose to use for vocal takes/background vocals etc. on a standalone for inspiration w/o having to open logic per say…. Any recommendations??
Use a daw
I thought Verselab had 16 vocal tracks..?
Just bought the T-8 and J-6. What cables do I need to sync them and connect to Ableton or another DAW?
Same here
Hey Jeremy, if it's not too much of a hustle, could you recommend a synthesizer for having some fun with sound? I was playing piano when I was little and watching your videos makes me nostalgic and leaves a craving for expressing myself in music. Yet there are so many gear available at the moment that I'm left a little confused. Is it possible to find something nice for around 200$? Or maybe it's not a good idea to treat it like some fun time?
Check out the Arturia Microfreak.
These are synths and are probably under 200?
Under $200 is Volca territory pretty much so maybe Volca Keys? If you can jump up to $300, I would recommend something like the Uno Synth Pro desktop. But really the Microfreak is what you want as a synth beginner but it’s $350 - presumably you could find a decent used one for less on Reverb though.
@@chinmeysway But they only do specific things and don’t have much sound design options…
Isnt it possible to turn the vari on and off per step? If i have chord without vari on step one and vari on others the vari will not stop after returning to step one.. is that a bug?
Man, I just love your jams :D
And, why yes, it is a new cologne! Thanks for noticing :)
Do you have any opinions about the TC helicon perform-ve vs the e-4?
I think the perform ve would be my choice
Thanks for the response!
I wonder how the vocal processor works as an analogue hihat processor. It has everything you'd want for a hihat processor...shifter, reverb, vocoder,...
Have you tried that?
I have not!
Just wondering about the deep editing capabilities & how these/this thing(s) could be integrated with a modular rack setup seems like it might be a useful tool for DJ's otherwise kinda mickey mouse IYAME thanx folks
Awesome content. I noticed you didn’t cover the big scatter knob on the E4. Any reason why you skipped over it?
I don't like at all what it does
@@RedMeansRecording I looked it up myself and totally understand
With the help of the e-4, if i now practise a swedish english accent can i sound like bladee?
hey man, for program changes on J-6, can it be controlled on daw or with other synths?
Hello, which are thz cables that u use please for midi and audio links ?
So how do the chord sets relate to musical key?
2 new iOS apps (ELECTROBASE and THE 404) can do much of the best parts of that (and some things those can't do) for less than 5 US DOLLARS (currently). Those are A LOT of fun!👍 (An iPad or iPhone from 2019 or newer is recommended for ELECTROBASE though)
Is it possible to send the chords of j6 via midi into e4 vocoder?
tomato spaghetti bus salad, cool jam
This was so much fun to watch. I've been working with DAWs for 10 years but I never picked up an instrument - I've been looking to get hardware gear because it looks to be so much engaging to play with, but would you recommend this to someone with no real musical theory experience?
you'll be fine :) I know 0 music theory and I still enjoy my roland s-1. I think it's more important to know how to use a synth. If you've ever created your own patches or played around with a software synth, the basic principles are the same, so you'll know what to do for the most part. The AIRA's are tiny though, so expect some menu diving
@@some.person Thanks! I actually ended up ordering 3 Pocket Operators - they might not be as easy to work with, but they seem so powerful and fun!
How did they manage to do side chain in that tiny box and not for the mc707.
😂 a good point, well made!
Hi! I'm new to beat machines. So, I have some questions. Does this T8 quantize automatically? Is shuffle the same as swing?
Can it loop or trigger vocals? It would be great to have pads with samples you made on the fly that you could trigger back.
It does one of the things you mentioned (gotta watch the end yah
@@chinmeysway Okay thanks!
could i get a tutorial how to cable everytging up in the best / right way ?
would like to :) THANX
Great video
How do you connect them together so they are in sync
What's the order of connection ??
Same question here !
Jeremy positioned these to make it clear: it looks like they are just chained together T8 -> J6 -> E4 for both MIDI and audio. That means: T8 MIDI Out -> J6 MIDI In, J6 MIDI Out -> E4 MIDI In and for the audio T8 Mix Out -> J6 Mix In, J6 Mix Out -> E4 Mix In. Presumably the mix out on the E4 is going to an audio interface.
I approve these thingy devices.
Yes.
I approve RMR's demos too.
Yes.
10:11. thank you. ... the way the J-6 doesnt RE sync.. when you change the variation Makes want the e-4 1st ... i need to re look at the tr-6s and Liven Gear ...
This E-4 thing really is reminiscent of the BOSS VT-1 (Voice Transormer), almost sounds like it.
Yup 👍
What is the release date for these?
I’ve pre-ordered but I have no clue what the release date is…. Any insights?
No sorry.
I ordered mine pretty early, and they all have arrived, I know the E-4 sold out the quickest. They are out in the wild. Hope urs show up soon. ✌️🎶🎹
They are in stock here in Australia.
So, is this a step up from the Korg Volca series? Thanks
i think so
What cable to comute these two machines?
does anyone know if i could use the usb connection from the j-6 to pull audio into an elektron model samples ?
Def not. You'll need to use audio cables.
I feel like you must have a plaque on your desk that says, “Above all, have fun.”
Jeremy can you change the key of the chords presets? Or does the manual says in which key is every set of chords?
i think you can?
Shift > then "key" > then select number/key you want > then exit...each number equates to a key (i.e 1 = C) and moves up or down one semitone (+ or - 12). This is also great if you want to send the midi to other synths (in the box or external) and want to be in a specific key
really want to see more people use the e4 on drums, but havent seen much of that,,
RMR needs to publish a lyric sheet for that song at the end.
"I've been pumping up my mind, yeah" / "Volcas on my mind" / "I've been on my grind, baby" ?
Wow cool setup. I am considering (on a budget) getting set up to make my own tunes for fun. After seeing this video I am going to go with these three. However, I can not afford them all in one go. Which one should I buy first so that I don't feel too lost. Do they all work good enough independently? Please excuse my nobbiness haha. Thanks for the inspiring video and any help in advance 😎
Jam was best part, very jammy
🔥
These sound better than Volca’s for me hands down and are about the same price.
would you recommend this over the Moog Sound Studio 3?
I’ve owned the 3 bits of kit you mention. After much swapping and changing I have not had any desire to get any of them back. I currently have essentially a techno groove box in eurorack and a Prophet Rev2. I paid £900 for the Rev2 and it is an absolute work horse! Paired with the Erica Synths drums that are in my rack it’s an absolute blast.
My main concern about the T-8 is the 32 steps instead, not 64!! Arghhh!!
If I had zero gear, went back in time and started again with the money to buy a Moog sound studio, personally I wouldn’t. I’d get a used Rev2 and maybe a Drumbrute Impact (to get going).
The thing I’ve learned having owned many, many drum machines, is that there’s nothing out there that’s perfect. Modular allowed me to make my perfect drum machine.
Absolutely yes.
@@RedMeansRecording Thank you for the help.
What about the big giant 'Scatter' knob???
Hmmm... so is your spouse/partner an educator, or did the local teacher supply store have an end of the year blow out? I ALWAYS love your desk's accoutrement! And this makes me want to throw money at stuff again. damn you.
Haha. I asked my partner for stuff to put on my desk for videos for Christmas :)
@@RedMeansRecording The question is now, will you accept curios from fans? I have a very classy refrigerator magnet that I picked up at the airport in Munich a couple of weeks go featuring a couple in traditional Bavarian costume, but their dangly legs are 4 inch lengths of yarn; PERFECT for your desk. For some reason my spouse wasn't impressed with it.
Maybe I mean "KLASSY"...
(and by "throw money at stuff", I meant the Rolands. sweet and simple devices, and reminds me of days back in the mid 80s as a young teen, enrolled in the Roland Users Group, getting mailed their catalog and drooling over everything I couldn't afford...)
Haha... Hoodie on... 🤣. In my homestudio it has 85 °F right now. No summer in the US??!
Not in Seattle
So you can't really program your own pattern on the j-6?
U can
can t-8 bass accent trigger by midi velocity, it will be a perfect poor man 303 if it can
How much did these set you back ?
They were provided by Roland
your very cool
and i just sub to you
Cool Hardware musique instruments
Music can now sound like it’s produced by a real band, with a real drummer, real keyboard player and lead singer (vocoder permitted) lead guitarist even. When it amounts to nothing more than a middle age tech geek fiddling about with an incredible array of music tech in his garden shed in suburbia I’m kinda excited that I can try the same but then mightily put off at the sad thought of my son asking ‘what the hell you doing dad??’ 😂
It's killing me, what is the card in the top right? I'm guessing it isn't car because there's a car in the top right. Also great video! :)
