While the spoiler season was happening, I was in an online pickup game where Talion had Chalice on 1 and Talion on 2. That was quite the squeeze.
I think this deck is a natural fit for chalice.
I've played a lot of Talion test games and even just made it to a finals of my local tournament (ended in a draw vs tivit and blue farm) with it and I love the deck, as for 1 or 2 I think it's match-up dependent, 2 is the most optimal for draw but 1 is better if you get a turn 1 talion, and 1 is better against certain decks as a soft stax piece (like krarch sakashima) because of their need to cast 1 mana spells, usually turbo naus decks also need to play 1 mana rituals after their naus to gain mana too which kills them. 1 is also better at triggering talion to protect himself as all relevant removal like red ele blast or swords is on 1
I tested a bit with Talion and I found 1 or 2 is close to each other in how often it triggered in my games but generally the more colours your opponents are in the more likely 1 wins vs 2. Also Sheoldred the Apocalypse is quite good like Bloodchief Ascension.
I’ve been running Bloodchief in Yuriko and card can go nuts. Excited to see it seeing more play!

Everyone talking about how good the card is, I have to chime in to say the artwork is fire. both the regular and the borderless, just a good looking magic card.
As a stats nerd, you not wanting to include the top deck until the Mulligan has been kept is a method of statistics protects against skewed data from "over fitting" so it's super valid
I ran Talion last week at prerelease and 2 was the right choice against thras and tymna vs Innalia vs magda. Also i run Necrotic ooze in my version. Awesome video btw.
Loving the trend of decks that can run Cursed Totem and Grafdiggers. Trying to get out of the habit of graveyard synergy since it's pretty easy to get hated out of that gameplan

talion is super sick and I think playing it as an anti-meta deck of sorts is really interesting. having thoracle as the only wincon can probably be a bit annoying. it makes me want to think about a narset/thief wheels package, despite it being generally subpar for the current meta. swiftfoot boots to give hexproof on talion is also an interesting thought, since I imagine this is going to be one of those commanders that will get massive amounts of card draw if its left to sit around for the game. getting an early talion killed can be really rough for this deck however, it'll probably be a few turns before you can hit 6 mana if you're using rituals or lotus. I'm sure people will start to shift table respect towards talion if it turns out to be consistently as good as people feel it currently is. exciting card for sure, I'm definitely replacing urza with it in my tivit deck and throwing it into my atraxa as well. I think severely underrated decks like Tymna Thrasios also got a nice pickup from this card. if this card gets super popular, I wonder if we'll be seeing more notion thief/narsets being registered? I also think sensei's top would be solid in this build if you're on cb anyways, you can at least do some fancy things with the rearrange ability stacked on top of a talion trigger and in the early game I think its solid enough to help you get to casting talion
if florian guy is interested in this commander, then I'm 100% sure it has legs
2 continues to be the best choice... although I have found in late game when Talion has been removed, sometimes it makes sense to replay him on 1.
fully agree this is the closest deck to yuriko ive seen in a while, just like midrange value with alternate wincon in cmd zone and its nice to see what people come up with on talion and be inspired to do similar things with yuriko
Few questions - if we are running bloodchief shouldn’t we run Mindcrank for the combo kill?
Someone else mentioned Sheoldred, which is a great way to stay super healthy while draining people.
I’m working on this and will either play this or Yuriko at LotusCon.
I don't think crank is bad by any means. It just is rough for fueling breach

Why not run Telepathy with Talion as commander? A U mana and now all your oppo play with their hands revealed. Seems like a fun pseudoey stax piece. On another note, I’ve been listening to the PWP podcast from start until current and I heard you talking about Selenia, Dark Angel. Did you ever brew a cEDH deck with her? Of my surviving old collection, I have a copy of her and I was intrigued by that conversation.

Melee is designed for 60 card not 100 afaik. I have heard good things about it for 60 card in the past

How good are the Clones that copy Talion (or even the new Roaming Throne!) Either double up on the talion effect or spread out the Number even.
It looks more like nymris than Yuriko you can take this list and switch the commander to nymris and it would work as it is just about the same deck as snake had

I also play Nymris and had a laugh when I saw this deck as I had seen it already but with an other commander at the front 😂
I’ve played about 40 or so games with Talion. 2 has been the best performing number but if I see a turbo ad naus deck I consider 1. 2 just hits so many things and creatures. My list was originally a control deck but it has evolved into a similar midrange.
I’m so surprised to have not seen talk about this card at all. It seems so strong, but might not have that much hype
I am curious as to what cards make 2 the prefered number to 1 otherwise seems an interesting deck
So I got bored one day and used AI to check all the decklists in the top 16 of mox masters July. 2 is the best by about 20%
If you use bard ai. Which can search the Internet. It tells you 5 but then when you make it actually go through it step by step it isn't accounting for frequency of cards, then when you do it says 3. But then when you add in power or toughness it gets to be 2.
went through a bunch of CEDH decks and most have 4-6 more 2s then 1s.
I watched 5 random cEDH games on YT, and in all 5, “one” beat out “two” (by about 10-20% in each game, like clockwork). That’s a small sample, granted, but it is interesting. I’d be curious to know why your friend always picks 2. Does he have some data? If he’s up for it, suggest he do a video. I’m intrigued.
I saw a UA-cam video that mentioned the talion discord members figured out 1 works better because there are on average 5-7 more cards that trigger on 1 per deck.

Control doesn’t interest me much. Not my style. But this is a cool commander.
Statistically 2 is the better choice and will trigger roughly 33% of the time, choosing 1 I believe roughly reduces the triggers by 10-12%.
Card draw moment
List can definitely be cleaned up a bit. But it’s solid for the most part.

Please dont not give out your decklist before a tourney!! You are too prestigious of a pilot to not only scew the entire tournament but completely change potential innovations from other piloys that are forced to tech against or with you. It is a cool idea but we as a community dont need your list. You give us plenty of insight.
Instead: make a tier that provides similar insight. Record your post match thoughts. (Audio) talk us thru the match up the mull choice ect. You have done a video like this before kinda live. But this is more of a mix live(ish) recap. With exclusive break down for just that tier.
So basically kill on sight. Easy enough.
