Every time I post a picture, when I view my profile it gets cropped severely and the photos can look completely different. I cannot find a video anywhere about dealing with this issue@@RobertSilverPhotography
This was fine but it was for phones. Some of us do actual editing on a desktop. This shouldn't be hard. And why is IG still cropping photos? It's like its year 2000.
My question is how do we even make a 4:5 ratio photo already, without needing to add borders in the first place. I see people on IG all the time who have full portrait photos without borders. Is this because they’re not using iPhone and using an actual camera? Wondering if that has anything to do with ratios, pixels, etc. Thanks
Most digital cameras shoot in 4:3 and if a photographer does not want to add a boarder to their image, they'll crop it to 4:5 prior to exporting their images. That way they know it'll fit in the Instagram limitations.
Hi. I have a question that's related to this, though not exactly what you were discussing. I just uploaded multiple images to Instagram from my Mac using the Lately Social app, formatting them at the vertical 4:5 shape. Everything looks fine when the post is viewed on a computer and in an internet browser on my phone, but viewed on the actual Instagram app on my phone, the images are all cropped to a square shape. As the images all contain text, this is a huge problem. I don't understand why it does that in the app, or how I can work around it. Any advice? Thanks.
It never had in my experience. Check out my IG profile. Today I used this method to post a photo. You can see the results for yourself. instagram.com/robertsilverphotography
@Robert Silver Photography: A very helpful tutorial. However, having watched this video some 10 times now, I am missing a trick: (1) I don't have a 'download' option in the Inshot App for Android, merely a 'Save Button' option. (2) Also, when selecting either 1:1 or 4:5 ration for Instagram, I am left with a blurred border of the original photograph as a backdrop. (3) Selecting 'No Frame' removes the blurred backdrop original; but (5) Whichever option I try and use in (2) or (3) above STILL results in the Instagram app trying to crop the edited Inshot photo.
Sorry, I just saw your comment. !) I'm not sure about how the InShot app works on Android phones 2) Yes, in either ratio you will have a blurred or solid color border/frame. That still is the case. Its why I post the original image (first) and then the InSHot version of my image (second) on Instagram together as a carousal post 3) Yes, if you press 'no frame' it goes back to its original 2:3 aspect ratio and thus IG will crop it to 4:5 ratio. To avoid cropping you have to use either a white (colored) border/frame or a blurry one after you choose the aspect ratio. No way around the framing issue. But at least the entire photo gets displayed inside the 4:5 on IG. I do this all the time on my IG posts. I choose a white background at 4:5 ratio. Then I use the zoom function (zoom out) to create white borders around the photos I like. Download and post. I hope this helps in any way.
@@RobertSilverPhotography Thank you for your reply. 🙏 In the intervening time, I have played around with the 'Canvass' frame options, and these do appear to provide a solution in terms of being able to fix image resolution at 4:5, prior to posting on IG.

I would recommend using the app to create crop of your image using the 1:1 (square) aspect ratio to use as the first image in your carousal (multiple) photos post. THat will allow you to control how its being cropped. THus, giving you the best chance to control the design of your profile grid. Hope that helps in anyway.

When u choose 2x3 what does that equal to? It seems like when u choose that it doesn’t crop the photo as much. And, does 4x5 equal to 1080x1350? To get the maximum amount of photo, if I am cropping through an app..does it matter if I choose the 2x3? Obviously there’s a difference in size but, will Ig and fb allow the whole photo if I choose 2x3 or will it compress it? Also, using an app to crop what is the difference between cropping the ratio to 4x5 versus resizing entering the dimension “1080x1350?” (Sorry if I’m confusing you. I confuse myself 🤦🏻♀️ lol)
