  • Fixing a backwards or reversed door latch is as easy as unscrewing the door latch with a screwdriver and flipping it around. Depending on the type of door handle you have, you may need to flip the knobs or you may just have the option.
This door was to a closet door so there were no locks or special handles that needed fixing, but the general concept here is the same- simply pull out the latch and flip it around so it will catch in the strike plate

What if there’s a lock on one side? Does it matter?

Should just be able to turn the knobs upside down as well and be ok!

Anyone else come here trying to figure out why people keep installing them this way in the first place?

People are idiots. That’s the only conclusion I’ve come to.
