Vintage Electric Hammer Drill Restoration and Conversion from 100V to 18V

- This is a vintage electric hammer drill from Japan. Its power is only 330W.
I tried it, but it did not work because it broke the internal wiring. Fortunately, the wire did not touch the body, otherwise I would have been shocked. For safety, including modernization, I decided to convert this tool from electric to battery hammer drill powered by 18V Milwaukee battery.

14:30. When I saw these armature rings, I immediately remembered how we used to throw shaped transformer plates in childhood. They were in the form of the Russian letter "Ш", or "E". 😄
Oh, you have a good childhood memories. Thank you for sharing!
@@gear_show Thank you for amazing work and video montage! 🙂
Gear Show rewinding the armature, thats more like it. Loved it.
I'm glad you love it, thank you!

But when the engine is modified, it becomes weaker than it was, so it is preferable not to modify it and make it as it was. There are many repairmen who do not do this for this reason
The proper use for a 50mm socket 😂
This was excellent. You really went all out. Love the result. 🥰🥰🥰
Thank you so much 🤗
NICE BATTERY KIT I LIKE IT A LOT
Thank you!
It looks like the spot labeled '12v' on the circuit board wasn't soldered down like the rest. You can see it at 3:47
also didnt add a grommet where the power cables go into the (metal) body
always one to pick a fault
People who spot potential problems are much better at their job than those that just sit in awe.
I`m one of your biggest fans! Every video is a masterpiece. Really grateful you`ve inspired me to do a lot of my own projects.
Thank you for away come to this channel! I'm glad you like those contents.
wish i had the patience
I love this, the voltage convertion was a master piece, It would be nicer a more elaborated adaptation to the battery and a cover for the exposed wires, consider 3d printing 👌
Okay, thank you for sharing! I'm glad you love this content.
Very good restoration 👍👍👍Thank you for sharing. Be safe🇨🇦
My pleasure, thank you!
What a wonderful restoration and you are very hard worker thanks for the sharing this video and nice restoration good work sir 👍👍.

Very impressive G.S... Nice video...
Thank you!
The japan script says it's makita, i guess that's the brand
Okay, thank you for sharing
Thanks for change Table sheet Gear show Very Excellent work Brother
My pleasure, I'm glad you like it.
Good work, I think adding the left and right direction key is necessary for this work
cool project but idk if its too fit for masonry. hammer drills can do it but its slow compared to a sds rotary hammer
Because the old mechanic structure.
You are so lucky I do not have the brain capacity you’re good with electrical stuff WOW
Thank you so much!

Another great video and i like the sound! 👍
Nice, looks SF, like a fallout experimental weapon :)
Yes, thank you!
good job... 👍👍👍
Thanks
Oh man! I love your videos
U forgot to solder the 12v signal on the battery module at 3:25 . Nice videos!
Yes, thank you for the feedback!
Nice job, good content! 👍🏻Thanks! 🌹
Thank you very much!
Great job, thank you brother. You are so talented
I appreciate that!
Other than perhaps a bit better cable management from the handle to the battery, you've done an excellent job.
I'd have sleeved the wires into one flex, grommeted the hole they emerge from or, indeed, routed them out of the smaller hole @ 28:38 and blanked off the large aperture at the bottom.
Still, definitely a 9.5/10.
I'm so glade with your feedback, thank you for sharing!
The motor laminations will produce eddy currents because each lamination wasn't isolated electrically with varnish etc. But overall great work!
very good
Thanks

Amazing video ❤️
You are so kind ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I’m your fan. Excellent job
Thank you my fan :)

Me alegra que te guste este contenido.
allways good thanks
Always welcome
Beautiful job.
Thank you so much 😀
It was really great
Thank you!
Please a Quick-release chuck and a brushless motor
so scary powertools with full metal expose like that with no rubber coating, and its electric AC to, you bassicaly play with your life using a tools like this, convert it to dc will be safer from electric shock
really beautiful great job thank you
Thank you! 😊
Well done. 👍
Thank you! 👍
Great job as usual but the motor seems to be not powerful enough for this drill?
Yes, it is less power than original.
Nice job 👍🇮🇩🙏
nice but you should not use plastic to "Insulate" the windings.. you should use insulating paper that is designed for it you run the risk of it heating up and melting and sticking causing a short with prolonged use.
Yes, you're right. Thank you so much for sharing!
Fantástico trabajo !
Gracias por compartir.
¡Denada gracias!
Nice !

You're supposed to melt that plastic pole. The one that came through nickle plate. It's there to lock the metal in place.
I used low temperature solder with old tips.
Okay, thank for the tips
Interesting project. But was it worth? I mean, there is really lot of work you did. Anyway when you testing drill on different materials like wood there is no question. When you drill concrete, I see a low performance in this case. And there is not showing drilling metal plates. Good job anyway. Good luck!
The battery can be used with the original power tool, so It can't count into this project cost. I do this project for learning and showing. The vintage mechanic structure is designed not so good, that why it performs not so well. Anyway thank you!
That's a very nice
Thank you!
Îmi place foarte mult.
Nice 😊
Thanks
How will you stop the drill for draining the battery cells all the way?
Have you ever done the math to see how much more powerful your mods have made tools like this one?
When I was studying physics, I knew how to calculate its force.
Some math to why you take the winding you do would be very helpful to redo this oneself.
Otherwise great video!
Bravo 🤠🏆🇧🇷🇧🇷👏✍️
Thanks
What is the name of the company that made this drill?
Wow! Your job is amazing.... I need to know... how did you remove the rust and the grease?! that must be difficult
Trabalho de mestre! Gratidão Gear Show!
Muito obrigado!
Crazy!!

Q: Do you have to tamper with the motor in order for it to work with a battery, I have added a battery to my corded Strimmer to make it cordless, however, it doesn't give the same power?
Did you change the motor?
@@gear_show no i have not
So i take it motor requires changing for it to work?
Thats a lot of work. I have a drill very similar i found it in a dumpster i dont that i will power it from the mains i think it s dangerous beacause of the metal body maybe i wil something steampunk from it... i have one guestion what that that one cluch do?
Becarefull with all aluminum tool.
I like to disassemble things as well but I never put them back since I don't remember what part goes where 🤣🤣
After you watch my videos, you will can do it
Super
Use dc switch or 30a relay with normal switch
Switch u are using will not handle >2 amps current because it is made only for AC current load
Okay, thank you for sharing!
bravo
Thank you!
New sub , liked ❤️👍👍🙏✌️
Thanks for the sub
What was the blue component marked as z08, a bridge rectifier ?
Which part of the video? Could you please point it
Wow
hero!
:D
The battery looks like a sore thumb. Other than that, nice conversation/restoration.
Có mô tơ 18v đc sao anh ko thây, mà quấn như vậy thì làm khó em quá.hehe theo dõi anh đã lâu
Mo to 18v loại mạnh nhất là 895 cug ko mạnh bằng mo to quấn lại này nên họ quấn vẫn hơn .
Thank you for great video bro. 21:20 I need your help. I use RS 775 and its wires broken high voltages. What did use this liquid glue for secure wires? I find a glue, Permabond 920 but is it very expensive.
It is A&B glue.
Very nice ! ...but one question... How you calculate number of spire?
I follow DC armature 18V
Dope💯
Really..
