how do u make the edges of the photo look like paper like how u did @ 0:02 ?
Heya. This might come down to me not fully understanding mattes.. But in the new 2023 version of AE, there is no longer an option to select "Luma matte", when doing the first wrinkle effect. I'm unsure where to go from here
Yea. It’s a little different now. You pick whip to the matte you want. Then the Luma matte are the little button/switches to the right. First button is alpha and luma. Second button is normal/inverted.
I'm doing some shorts using Ali Abdaal as a reference and his editors use this transition a lot. I was hoping to find some way to do it quicker but I guess motion is one of those things where the better you want it the more time you have to put in hehe

It would take quite some work to do it in Premiere. And replicating this project in premiere would probably bog your comp down.
Hello, awesome design, man! I need some help tho, when I clicked on the Alpha Matte, nothing happens. How to troubleshoot this? I'm pretty sure I used the png file for the paper wrinkle.
I can’t recall, but you may need to try the Luma matte. Then play with the inverted options as well.

Another question :D Your after effects animation file is 1920 x 1020 but your video here has 4k (3840x2160). Does it make any difference what file the AE animation has?
Well, the tutorial was recorded in 4K, the animation itself was rendered as 2K. I just scaled it up. If your comp in AE is set to 2K, then it will be 2K.

I wonder: did you animate only one sheet of paper like shown in the tutorial or have you also animated the smaller pieces (for the separate figures) like the one in 0:12 or 0:28 .. Can't tell if it's filmed and animated or done in AE
Good question. Those smaller figures are really just using masks to reveal them. Using the same paper animations, just as masks. Tricks the eye a little!

can the paper assets provided be used for commercial use?
We’d prefer you create your own. Single use commercial is ok. But not to be included in any form of template.

Is the background (when the animation starts) just a solid black layer with some type of overlay on it?
I believe so. Or are you referring to the main paper unfolding? Or the main animation where the camera is flying through the torn paper?

@@derrickmoore9491 right. Yea, I believe I created those newspaper pieces as PNGs then had them reveal with the paper animation using them as a track matte.
Then just some grunge texture overlaid to give it that grunge/speckled look.

Please elaborate on the saving method because my image sequence doesnt play like yours at the beginning of the video. It just shows the first image and doesn't do the stop motion on playback
Did it come through as an image sequence, that may be the problem. there should be a checkbox on your finder/explorer when importing
@@PixelPreacher So after trial and error I see that you are actually "exporting" as a png and not just "saving". The issue I am having now is when I import the image sequence into AE the image sizes are off and the animation looks like poo. I'm about to give up :(

Nice Tutorial! I'm trying to replicate the intro (the paper revealing while the camera is rotating) but images are super transparent even with the alpha adjustments. Any advice?

It's just my main animation dropped into to another comp, then scaled down and duplicated, then moving those layers in time to different spots. It's for the templates we build.
