I think people should be allowed to ride up too 250 at learner status these days because the training today is better and should be a problem , you get a bigger person on a 125 cc and the bike would be struggling, so a compromise would be better suited and you'd have a more practical combination . Years ago the training wasn't available so bikers getting injured or killed was quite high that was the reason for the restrictions and the lower capacity machine , but I think this should be reviewed especially when more people can take advantage of biking for their commuting too and from work and easier parking , cheaper all round. Personally, the first thing I've ever done with my 125 bikes is get a bore kit or other after market parts to boost it up to past 125cc and just not tell anyone
agree , in my country there are only 2 types of motorcycle license , class B2 which is restricted to 250cc below or class B full which means you can ride any cc. 125cc is too small for bigger size person
It used to be 250 for leaners years ago. Unfortunately like most things here in the UK everything is geared down for the idiot....Health & Safety crap. In Spain if you have a car licence you can ride a 125 without any stupid test or conditions.
After looking around at other options, My Heart is still set on getting myself the #1 Choice, the Keeway Superlight 125 still stands out from the rest in my opinion 🙂.
It isnt fast but it is comfortable and reliable and robust. I had one for a commuter years ago when I was working and came off it a couple of times also used it on rough terain it kept up with it all and only needed hammering down of the foot plates. So a good choice.

They ain't bad, look nice, robust - only downside is the standard tyres are crap and the electrics are cheap. But these things are good value for what you pay

@bikematters. I think that the hyosung aquila video shown is the 650 although I would be happy to be proven wrong. To my knowledge the new aquila 125 is a v-twin and is still stunning to look at but I'm pretty sure that the bike shown is not it. Let me know. Ta

Great list! Had my eye on the Keeway Superlight but checking out the AJS highway star that’s the bike for me! Definitely the best looking and my end game is a Harley so this bike is great I’m not fussed about speed so top speed of 60 would do me and at 94mpg and a 19 ltr tank I’m sold my nearest dealer is selling for £3099 plus £80 for delivery so for a first bike it’ll kick ass. Bring on the CBT.

The Aquila here in the video looks much nicer than any model you can buy anywhere. Frame and lamp are unique!! Maybe you showed us the GV 650?

If you can please can you take a closer look at the Motorini Box 125i? I have been having real trouble finding anything other than the sales bumf to go on.
Not something we'll be able to help with anytime soon sadly as we haven't been testing for some time due to lockdown etc.

Bonjour du Sud de la France where we don’t have so many choice .... and Keeway is very difficult to find. (Like write in english whith a french phone.) We can find some old 125cc custom (1980/90´) as Honda or Yamaha so far away in Normandie 😉

We get loads of comments about the Leonart, but sadly not over in the UK currently hence why they are not on our lists. Hopefully they might be imported in the future that would be great.

What about the Honda shadow 125cc??
I ride one. Discontinued long ago. Mine is from 2002. 15 HP.
Shadow is also only 145 dry weight and 15hp
The VT125C Shadow is the best of the 125cc Japanese V2 cruisers. Good ones are expensive... and bad ones, you`d probably want to avoid those. A nice Lexus is still a nice Lexus two decades later... but by now it is a classic nice Lexus :)

I have a K-Light, it does look great, but its has starting issues, and are know for problems, yes you can advise that they are good, but long term they aren't, top speed is actually higher, I've got up to 72MPH
I'm still trying to find out what the reliability is like on these Chinese power plants I've from some that they fall way behind Japanese units from others they are good .
I've not ridden bikes since the 70s so need some help before flashing the cash.

Number 2 number 3. Are the top two bike. No 1 is interested in the rest. And these two bike need to have more power. My Aprilia rs4 out the factory does 78mph and that is standard. Its 4 stroke injection. These on the list do not have enough power and speed to keep up with modern day traffic. Thats why people get there bike d restricted. U need that bit more power and speed to get out of harms way. So all 125cc bikes need more power and speed. Hope u like my answer. I ride my 125cc all year round. Thanks ian.

I like KYMCO K PIPE 125
In my view the Sinnis Hoodlum is a lovely looking bike, but why the spokes? Spoked wheels are a serious health hazard, as they necessitate inner tubes, which when punctured deflate almost instantly, throwing the bike into a terrifying wobble... (Believe you me, if you’ve experienced it once, you won’t put yourself in that position ever again.) I’d definitely have one of these bikes if Sinnis would change to a tubeless setup. In comparison, the Keeway Superlight LTD looks kind of scrunched-up to me, like it’s just run into the back of a bus, and the Superlight SE is reminiscent of a gaudy, over-decorated Christmas tree. The Hyosung Aquila is even worse, looking like some kind of monstrous mutation that’s escaped from the laboratory of some mad mechanic.

My friend has one of the most interesting custom bike of all time. Well if u know what Jawa Babetta 210 is u know it is 50cc moped but my friend switched the 50cc 2-stroke engine to 110cc 4-stroke engine and it is looking hilarious. The engine is wider than bike it self....just google the babetta 210 and u'll see what I mean😂😂

Instead of spending around 2000£ in a Chinese motorcycle that when bought comes with most of the bolts lose, buy a virago 125.
Japanese quality and reliability as long as you take care of the electrical sistem(energy regulator) from time to time.
Performance pretty much the same.
And let's be honest, if these bikes get to 60/65 mph we are already happy.
it is a shame the Japanese manufacturers no longer sell new custom/cruiser 125s

I had a keyway superlight the first year they came out. They may not be fast struggling to go past 60mph with the choke fully off 50 with it on but they are comfortable and relliable so quite a good first choice in my oppinion. There is some debate on the engines on the first gen though some people who looked it over say their engine is not a true 125cc instead being a 250cc that has been piston capped to reduce the engine size and power down to 125.
Not one of those little bikes could get mistakes for a Harley!

Id recomend zongshen 125-30have had it for 10 years never have had problems only oil changes top speed is around 120kmh

Sadly no custom/cruiser 125 models from these Japanese manufacturers available new in the UK currently.
Would love to see a Kawasaki Vulcan 125... now that would be special. They could use the Vulcan 650 frame and chuck a Kawasaki Ninja 125 engine in there?

They are very great for heavy traffic and for filtering. They are not meant to go fast.
I don’t know why these brands don’t get 15hp out of these engines...
Most of these are cheaper air cooled motors meaning the price of the bikes are cheap, whack in a liquid cooled 15 hp motor and it'll add a lot to the price of these bikes new.
BikeMatters Reiju done it with Yamaha engines, but I don’t think they make a cruiser (yet)

Sorry, but all 125s are the same no matter how they look. They all go between about 55 and 65 (you're not getting 70+ out of a 125, don't @ me) hell, any 1ltr car is better.
